Since ancient times, the Shiba Clan have been fighting against the monstrous hordes of the Gedoushu[[note]]"Heretic Party"[[/note]]: the demons that [[ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight emerge from crevices to attack humans]]. When the 18th head of the Shiba Clan, Takeru Shiba, learns that the leader of the Gedoushu is close to regaining his full power, he is reluctantly forced to summon four others from his retainer families as back-up and form the Shinkenger. They consists of;

* [[blue:'''Shinken Blue''']] is [[BunnyEarsLawyer Ryūnosuke]] [[HeroSecretService Ikenami]], a would-be [[KabukiTheatre kabuki actor]] turned samurai. His actor background clearly translates into his normal life as he is an extremely expressive and emotional individual.
* [[pink:'''Shinken Pink''']] is [[CoolBigSis Mako]] [[TheConsigliere Shiraishi]], is her mother’s successor. She provides a calming presence to the team and treats Takeru as an equal and acts as his main advisor.
* [[green:'''Shinken Green''']] is [[FragileSpeedster Chiaki]] [[KidAppealCharacter Tani]], is a student who is enlisted as full-time samurai. Chiaki was seemingly IncompletelyTrained by his father putting him slightly behind his teammates. He aspires to surpass Takeru.
* [[gold:'''Shinken Yellow''']] is Kotoha [[CuteClumsyGirl Hanaori]] the youngest member of the team. Originally her sister was supposed to be Shinken Yellow XVIII but due to chronic illness, her baby sister Kotoha took her place.

* ExperiencedProtagonist: It has been explicitly stated that all of the Shinkengers have been training since childhood to properly prepare against their fight with the Gedoushu. This is proven in the first episode where each member of the team is already an MasterSwordsman and are shown to wield their respective preferred weapons with great proficiency.
