** Happens again in episode 2 with the Atria clones coming out of their tanks nude but, since this is a CW show, only shot from the collarbone up or with FootFocus.

* VillainTakesAnInterest: Tierney takes interest in Tom after seeing the potential of his telepathic abilities during the academy museum heist.

* WhatTheHellHero: Tom grows a grudge with Jax when she uses him and her father in a dangerous situation solely to get information about the death of her parents.

* TheSyndicate: The Hypatia Syndicate seems to the main organized criminal group in Human space, with their hands in extortion and slave trafficking.

* DaddysLittleVillain: Both of Harlan Fried's daughters are just as evil and as ambitious as him. [[spoiler:Even Tierney, who's revealed to his third daughter "Odessa" in the finale. And unlike Regan and Cordelia, she's actually loyal to him.]]

* BoobsOfSteel: Jax is by far the most skilled female fighter (at least on the good guys side), and also has the largest breasts.

* PopulationControl: A remote Human colony has everyone but its elders depart through a portal at age 25 to somewhere else, which they claim is good, so the population doesn't grow to high. However, they admit to not actually knowing where this leads. Later it's learned [[they all die by doing so]].

** The elders on a remote planet have remained young for over a century with the energy of a portal.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Harlan Fried was born over 150 years before the start of the series, but though appearing old he's still living. It's explained as being a result of multiple organ transplants from clones of his. [[spoiler:He later "upgrades" himself into a young cloned body of himself. Odessa is revealed to have used this as well, and is also far older than she looks.]]

* SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: {{Zigzagged}}. Adaran society is clearly condemned over their enslavement of clones. However, Hypatia (although a slave society too), is not portrayed as quite so bad (while they're still bad guys), possibly since the slaves are [[DoubleStandard all male]] and owned by women (with the protagonists even cracking jokes about this while having [[DressingAsTheEnemy disguised themselves there as slaves/slave owners]].

* ArtificialHuman: The Adaran clones, who are used as slaves. Because of their status, Adaran religion declares they are soulless and lack any rights.

* LadyLand: Hypatia is ruled by women, with all men either their slaves or interlopers.

* LocalHangout: The "Black Hole" a local bar where many of the academy students meet up.

* TheQueenpin: Tierney's first appearance suggest she's only a handler to Billy, but it's lader revealed she's actually the leader of the Hypatia Syndicate.

** Pilar is shown this way part of the time when she's parading around nude in the school.

** Episode 5 has one to ''Film/{{Entrapment}}'' where a DarkActionGirl acrobaticaly crosses a deadly LaserHallway with ease.

* {{Streaking}}: When Pilar is hacked, she's made to walk nude into the Black Hole, in front of a dozen of students. Use of SceneryCensor, ShouldersUpNudity and ToplessnessFromTheBack preserve her modesty to the viewer.

* UndercoverAsLovers: In episode 8, Jax and Xander pose as a bicking couple in order to spy on the Fried family.

* WouldntHitAGirl: Sarika says to Ralen when cornered, and he agrees it's true, but adds his wife has no such compunction (who promptly decks her).

** As a clone, Atria had a very sheltered upbringing by her master, who would not let her attend formal education, as is customary for the Adari masters. As a result she is hopelessly naive or clueless about many normal social interactions.

* TrappedByGamblingDebts: Billy, Tom's {{Telepath}} father, is deep in debt with a dangerous crime syndicate who wants him to steal something from the academy for them.

** Regan Fried spends most of the story plotting to depose her father Harlan as CEO of Parallax, which she finally succeds in episode 10. [[spoiler:But it doesn't last long as a young, clone version of her father returns.]]

* EqualOpportunityEvil: On Adar both Men and Women treat clones as sub-humans, laughing and drinking and going to fancy balls where clones are violated and sold off to the highest bidder.

* FanDisservice: Episode 6 where [[spoiler: Pilar is made to go {{Streaking}} into the Black Hole.]] The situation is intentionally played to resemble rape, especially when her creepy AbhorrentAdmirer starts [[EatingTheEyeCandy ogling her]].

* LoveDodecahedron: Let's see. [[spoiler: We've got Tom, who's in love with Atria, who's in love with Ralen, who's in love with Jax, who's in love with Duval who returns some form of feelings but is too deep in with his spy life.]]
** Ralen, as it turns out,[[spoiler: is married, adding another twist to this already convoluted shape.]]
* MegaCorp: Parallax, a [[WarForFunAndProfit War profiteering]] corporation behind most of the shady stuff in the story.

* MrFanservice: Xander and Tom have their fair share of {{Shirtless Scene}}s, showing off their toned physiques.

* ClonesArePeopleToo: Atria is a clone who rebelled and helped kill her master ([[spoiler:actually, she helped to fake his death so he could escape Adar and marry one of the clones he fell in love with]]) to win her freedom and later decides to fight so all the clones in her planet can be free.

* TrappedByGamblingDebts: Billy, Tom's {{Telepath}} father, is deep in debt with a dangerous cryme syndicate who wants him to steal something from the academy for them.

* TheVamp: Tierney, Billy's seductive fiancee is actually a dangerous criminal who acts flirtatious to just about anyone she interacts with.

* WorkoutFanservice: One conversation between Jax and Tierney just so happens to take place while they're going for workour run, with both women wearing very tight revealing outfits with BareYourMidriff.

* TheAlternet: The successor of the Internet is called "datastream".

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: The Zatarians are constantly reminding Humans that "you do not understand My People" when Humans try to judge them by Human moral standards or predict how Zatarians will react to a given situation.

** [[spoiler:Harlan and Odessa Fried have kept themselves alives past their natural lifespan by cloning new bodies and uploading their memories to them.]]

* {{Fanservice}}: At least OncePerEpisode one of the characters is wearing some sort of revealing clothing, though always shot to hide direct nudity.
