* AssholeVictim: Jared on ''The City'', kicking off the Masquerade SerialKiller storyline. Between raping his wife, plying TheAlcoholic Nick with booze, humiliating Azure over her transgender status, etc., pretty much everyone had motive to kill him.
* BackForTheDead: Sydney leaves ''The City'' for London. In the show's final episode, she tries to call the gang, only to be stopped. . .by Molly, who has escaped from prison and somehow made her way to London to kill her.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: Sweet, pretty, slightly ditsy Molly Malone is revealed to be the Masquerader, the SerialKiller who turned up on ''The City''.
* BolivianArmyEnding: In the finale of ''The City'', everyone gets a EarnYourHappyEnding, but psycho Molly has escaped from prison and killed Sydney who was trying to warn them, meaning it's only a matter of time before she returns to New York and resumes her rampage.

** Not to mention that when Cooper showed up on ''The City'' to reconcile with Steffy, ''absolutely no one'' made any mention of his entire family being slain by his Aunt Gwyneth, who herself was also dead.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Jocelyn admits to Alex that her father let his friends take turns molesting her. Furthermore, she paid for law school by working as a prostitute.

* FriendsRentControl: There is no way ''any'' of these people could afford to live in the SOHO building that everyone moves to in ''The City''.

* HelloAttorney: Jocelyn.

* MaritalRapeLicense: Jared to Sydney, on ''The City''.

* OldFriendNewGender: Azure C. confessed to boyfriend Bernardo that she'd had a crush on him since high school. This confused him, as he didn't remember her. Shortly after they consummated their relationship, he learned that she was a transgender woman. It was the male version of her who'd had the crush on him, developed after he'd protected her from bullies.

** Then a year later, another one of these turned up on The City.

* SpinOff: ''The City'', which had most of the show's remaining or surviving cast members leaving Corinth to move to New York City, presumably to escape the painful memories.

** Subverted a few years later on ''The City'', after Sydney is raped by Jared. When she goes to Angie for an exam, she is very adamant about being tested for HIV and STD's (this is a standard part of a rape exam regardless), given his penchant for infidelity.

* TransTribulations: The City was the first SoapOpera to tackle this topic, with the gorgeous model Azure C. being revealed to have been born a man. Unfortunately, negative fan reaction and the actress' poor performance nixed the storyline.

The show was never a huge hit, generally ranking in the bottom 3 soaps during its 12 year run. Nevertheless, the show engendered a SpinOff upon its cancellation called ''The City'' that would move most of the remaining cast to [[BigApplesauce New York's [=SoHo=] district]]; this only lasted until 1997.

* BirthDeathJuxtaposition: Cabot and Isabella are murdered the night of their 50th anniversary.

* BungledSuicide: Gywneth and Ally nearly become the next victims of the SerialKiller when they become trapped in the former's car, whose exhaust pipe has been stopped up, filling it with carbon monoxide. When it's revealed that ''Gwyneth'' was the killer all along, it becomes clear that she was trying to kill herself and take one last victim with her.
* CelebrityParadox: At one point, a character refers to "Erica Kane of Series/AllMyChildren", despite it having been well established that the two shows exist in a SharedUniverse, with characters from both shows repeatedly crossing over between the two during late 1992.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Jeremy is the final victim of the "Loving Murders". But unlike the others, who merely drifted off to sleep without even knowing that they'd been poisoned, he was encased in quick-drying plaster and left to suffocate.

* EarnYourHappyEnding: The few Corinth citizens who remain behind as the others leave for New York City all end up well off.

* IronicNurseryTune: "Itsy Bitsy Spider" was often played over scenes of the "Loving Murders", or of the killer preparing to strike.

* MercyKill: What Gwyneth deluded herself into thinking she was doing for the victims of the "Loving Murders". Her breakdown gets even worse when she realizes she had no such motive for killing her boyfriend and only did it to make sure he couldn't turn her it. Completely deranged and unable to live with what she's done, she begs a friend to invoke this for ''her''.

** Gywneth upon realizing that SHE is responsible for the murders of her family. What's more, the final murder was of her boyfriend Jeremy, someone who wasn't in any pain as she believed her other victims were. She's forced to admit that she did it because he'd figured out she was the killer [[HeKnowsTooMuch and keep him from calling the police.]]

* RedHerring: Curtis Alden is presented as a strong contenders for the Corinth SerialKiller, given his years of mental illness and his recent obsession with Stacey, the first victim. That changes when he becomes victim #3.

Added DiffLines:

* TogetherInDeath: The fifth of the "Loving Murders", that of Cabot and Isabella Alden, had the elderly couple celebrating their 50th anniversary, lighting the candles given to them as a present, going to bed. . .and never waking up, having been fatally poisoned by the vapors released. Their devastated loved ones consoled themselves with the fact that they could invoke this trope.

In the early 90s, a storyline had several characters crossing over to ''Series/AllMyChildren'' and vice versa, eventually adding several permanently, most notably Debbi Martin's Angie Hubbard.
