** Episode 11 of season 1 takes this a step forward with a leech-like parasite that infects people and lowers their inhabitants as a step to controlling them. When Dorian can't find any myths or legends describing such a creature, Landon points out that the monster is something out of a Sci-Fi movie. Which, as he points out, are more-or-less modern day myths and could've been inspired by monsters someone one saw and forgot.
