** As pointed out above, the series was written so that each ranger was the main character. Gerenrally, this played out between major story-arch episodes in the order of red, green, blue, yellow, and pink. Because of this order, Rin's episodes tended to be the major sotry-arch episode so she would often carry the bulk of the story focus for the big events of the series (often these were two-parters). She may have been the lone heroine of the team, but she was one of the most important characters on the show.

Unusually for this type of weapon, it's rather involved (most BFGs used by Sentai teams go "Summon/assemble, lock on target, wait a few seconds if necessary, then fire"; here, they summon it, then insert their Star Cutters as grips, the ammo {super-sized versions of the Lai-Lai jewels} is inserted, the ammo is loaded into firing position, the ''safety lock'' is disengaged, and finally a Star Sword is locked on the top; that's when they finally fire it).

6000 years ago, the Gorma tribe and Dai tribe were at war, with five Dai warriors with extremely high Chi levels leading their efforts. Eventually both tribes disappeared, but the Gorma resurfaced in the modern day. Master Kaku, [[spoiler:a former member of the Gorma]] who doesn't wish to see them destroy the world, gathers five youths with high Chi levels to become Dairangers and oppose their schemes.

Its relationship with the American ''Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers'' series is interesting: the mecha battles were used for most of Season 2; the Kiba Ranger suit was worn by the White Ranger, Tommy's new alter-ego after he lost the Green Ranger powers; Daijinryū became "Serpentera", a warzord used by [[BigBad Lord Zedd]]; and the [[{{BFG}} Super Chi-Power Bazooka]] became the Power Cannon. However, the five main ''Dairanger'' suits were never used on ''Power Rangers''…[[Series/PowerRangersMegaforce at least until 2014]].

* AllYourPowersCombined: The Super Chi-Power Bazooka which is fueled by the six rangers' Lai Lai jewels, along with Kameo's.

* FinishingMove: Dairen-oh has a nice variation where, after striking down a giant Gorma, it sheaths its sword. If the battle happened to be during the sunset, then that gets prominently shown.

* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Ryō is the first to get his Kidenjū, the Ryūseioh, which can face off against Gorma Monsters on its own. It's also the first TransformingMecha given to a ''Super Sentai'' warrior.
** The series was written with the intent that all five members serve as the main character, rather than just the red ranger, breaking with the usual Sentai status quo. As such, Ryō isn't the best Ki user at the beginning - that's Rin.

* TheMovie: The Dairangers take on four revived monsters and a new one. Premiered before Episode 8, but it's clearly meant to take place afterward, as evident by the early first appearance of Dairen-oh.

* PsychoRangers: The Copy Empress in Episode 25 could create clones of the Dairangers by merely taking their pictures. This actually allowed her to make more than one clone of each Dairanger.

* AbusiveParent & DomesticAbuse: Shadam, oh boy, Shadam. Whether it's his treatment to Akomaru or his lack of compassion to the mother of his children, he fits in spades.

* ArbitrarySkepticism: In episode 3 the entire team, except Daigo who is skeptical anyway, but doesn't dismiss the claim, is convinced that a [[ItMakesSenseInContext puppet]] Shōji and Kazu were attacked by was "radio-controlled or something" rather than the work of a Gohma. Later in the episode even Shōji and Kazu convince themselves of it, which leads to Daigo giving them a WhatTheHellHero after he himself is attacked.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: In the movie the Dairangers call out Duke of Trumps on the evil he's committed...including having a playing card motif, because playing cards should only be used for fun and games.

* BadassGrandpa: Rin's grandpa Guhon. So badass that even 20 year old girls are all swooning over him.

* EldritchAbomination: Daijinryū, who destroys the Gohma Palace and a huge chunk of Tokyo to force the good and bad guys to stop fighting. When that doesn't stop the action, he [[spoiler:comes back to Earth, takes control over the minds a large number of innocent civilians, making them jump to their deaths against their will as the ultimate form of blackmail to the good guys]].

* EverybodyWasKungFuFighting: The Dairangers and the Gorma Monsters have their own set of martial art skills.

* HalfwayPlotSwitch: Episode 3, sort of. The first half focuses on Kazu and Shōji, while the second half follows Daigo.

* IdiotBall: Kaku. [[spoiler: To save the Earth from destruction by Daijinryū, Kaku rejoins the Gorma and says he'll disband the Dairangers in return for a second truce. There's just one problem, [[PoorCommunicationKills he doesn't tell the rangers they're disbanded until after they see him in armor and then tells them more only after they kill Shiryuu]], a Gorma that also wanted peace between the Dai and Gorma tribes and was working with Kaku. Oops.]]

* {{Irony}}: Despite the core 5 suits never appearing in any of the Zordon Era shows[[note]]Saban chose not to switch over to the ''Dairanger'' suits for season 2 of ''Mighty Morphin'' to keep brand consistency. There were plans to use them as a team of "Ancient Rangers" in ''Lost Galaxy'', but production troubles caused those plans to be scrapped, and after that, Saban gave up on attempting to use them[[/note]], ''[[Series/PowerRangersMegaforce Power Rangers Super Megaforce]]'' would have the team use the suits more times than the suits from ''Series/PowerRangersTimeForce'', ''Series/PowerRangersInSpace'', ''Series/PowerRangersLightspeedRescue'', or ''Series/PowerRangersOperationOverdrive''[[note]]''Super Megaforce'' adapted footage from ''Series/KaizokuSentaiGokaiger''; despite the fact that footage of the Gokaigers using the Sentai counterparts of the aforementioned shows exist, for some odd reason, more of a focus was given to the Sentai-only teams[[/note]].

* MakeMyMonsterGrow: By design, it's possible to interrupt the growing process by preventing the Gohma from using the bomb (one got fenced in with Dairenrods, and a few got blown up in human size). There's also a limit on how long they can stay giant (this allowed a few Gormas to survive). And the bombs don't revive corpses - [[spoiler:the giant Media Magician was completely silent, as he was already killed by Lt. Gara.]]

* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Tombstone President, Telephone Teacher, and [[NobuyukiHiyama Kamikaze Boss]] (AKA the "Three Gorma Stooges"). Rather than fighting the Dairangers, they'd rather have a motorcycle race or play soccer (they're not very strong in a straight fight). They try this three times, failing each time, and in the end [[spoiler:they give up fighting and survive the war.]]

* CaptainErsatz: Iron-Face Chōryu is a blatant clone of Darth Vader, and his story is directly taken from ''StarWars''. He was once a great hero who sold out his allies to the bad guys, worked for them for a very long time, has a [[spoiler:LukeIAmYourFather moment with TheLeader (who also has a sister), [[RedemptionEqualsDeath reforms and subsequently dies]], and is welcomed to death by the ghosts of his former allies who forgive him]]. Given that ''Dairanger'' also borrowed from the soundtrack of ''StarWars'', this can't be unintentional.
