*** In Season 4, it's revealed that [[spoiler: despite being set up as the Big Bad ever since Season 2, Jack Novoa is a pretty nice guy - the ''real'' Big Bad is his wife/Jax's mother.]]

Added DiffLines:

* EvenBiggerBad: [[OnceAnEpisode At least once a season]]:
** In Season 1, it seems pretty obvious that Maddie is being set up to be the BigBad/AlphaBitch rival to Emma, with her mom Ursula serving the role as TheDragon to her daughter along with Maddie's AlphaBitchPosse, and that there will be a final show-down between Emma and Maddie to determine who's going to be the Chosen One. [[spoiler: As it turns out, Principal Torres, a deposed Chosen One witch herself, is the real Big Bad and tries to steal both Emma and Maddie's powers to reclaim her Chosen One status, with the minor side-effect of [[PowerAtAPrice Emma and Maddie being killed in the process]]. Emma and Maddie end up working together to defeat Principal Torres, Emma becomes the Chosen One unquestioned and Maddie ends up unknowingly sacrificing her powers to defeat Torres. From this moment on Maddie, Ursula and her Posse become [[HeelFaceTurn nearly unquestioned allies of Emma]] through to the conclusion of the series.]]
** In Season 2, Jax the NewTransferStudent seems like a pretty obvious potential BigBad for the season, not to mention Desdemona's moon-induced FaceHeelTurn which forces her to be evil with desires to take over the Witches' Council. [[spoiler: while Jax and Desdemona do indeed end up fighting each other to see who will come out on top, the real Big Bad of the season turns out to be an evil clone of Emma, called [[OneLetterName E]], that Jax made in the hopes of having her be his sidekick until she decided she wanted it all to herself instead. Jax ends up pulling a permanent HeelFaceTurn in order to help the original Emma defeat her evil self, and Desdemona reverts back to her pre-evil self once she's defeated. And even on top of that, it's implied that Jax's dad, Jack Novoa, is an Even Bigger Bad on a yet higher level being the ManBehindTheMan.]]
** In Season 3, Mia the kanai is again obviously set up to be the season's Big Bad with desires to destroy the Witches' Realm and the Chosen One for revenge against the Wiches' Realm nearly wiping out all of kanai-kind. [[spoiler: Other than one or to confrontations with Diego over bruised egos that go nowhere, nothing really happens other than build-up to the climax where Mia and Emma have to work together to save each other from being trapped inside a zombie video game. In this sense there really is no season Big Bad other than animosity between kanais and witches.]]

** [[spoiler: Mr. Jack Novoa, Jax's dad, had been set up to be the apparent EvenBiggerBad of the entire series ever since Jax's first appearance in Season 2 and in fact this was one of the main story arcs of Season 4 - until it was revealed that his wife/Jax's mother had been the real Bigger Bad all along, Jack's scheming was in fact aiming to protect his children and the Witches' Realm from her, and that he had just been a JerkWithAHeartOfGold all along]].

** [[spoiler: And Daniel and Mia in Seasons 3 and 4.]]

** [[spoiler: Emma herself undergoes a bit of a Face-Hell Turn in Season 4 when she grows overconfident of her Chosen One powers and openly defies the Witches' Council, Lily, and her own friends including Andi while threatening to disrupt all of time and space as we know it.]]

** The scheming between Jack Novoa [[spoiler: and his wife]] in Season 4.

** A somewhat unusual retroactive example: [[spoiler: Jack Novoa, Jax's father, had always been implied to be the series' eventual EvenBiggerBad, but Season 4 reveals that he'd actually been a KnightTemplar Face all along and all his schemes were for being prepared against the true Even Bigger Bad of the series.]]

** Jax was originally meant to be a typical [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys Bad Boy]] but quickly settles into yet another Nice Guy by the beginning of Season 3.

** Interestingly enough in Season 4 [[spoiler: it's revealed that Principal Torres didn't die after all, she was merely cast into limbo, from which Emma releases her from in order to steal her powers.]]

* AntiClimax: Season 3 builds up a big moment in the finale where Emma, Jax, and the newly reformed Mia have their backs against a train, gearing up to fight a group of video game zombies...and then Maddie zaps them out of the game and back into reality, just as they'd planned earlier.

Added DiffLines:

It works exactly as described, apart from Mia insisting on a detour to recover her precious necklace.

* AdaptationDistillation: The show simplifies and removes subplots from the original show. For example, Daniel's mother and Ursula were rivals for Grachi's father, something that is never alluded to in the remake. Likewise, Matilda took some time to become the proper AlphaBitch to Grachi, whereas Maddie starts out as one. This may be due in part to the first season only using half of the footage that was actually filmed.

In Season 2, Emma and Maddie are able to mend their relationship - but Maddie has lost her powers, and Emma has promised Daniel never to use hers again so that they can be a couple without violating the Witches' Council's rules on witch/human relationships. The temptation for Emma to use her powers proves to be too great, forcing the Witches' Council-members themselves to confront her. Under the transformation of a new moon, one of these council-members, Desdemona, develops plans on how she can use and exploit Emma for her own gains. Meanwhile, a new student at Iridium High, Jax, reveals himself as a Wizard to Emma and promises being able to make her a very powerful witch under his mentorship - but what are his own plans for Emma?
