* ArrangedMarriage: Pasiphae has organised one between Ariadne and Heptarian. [[RebelliousPrincess Ariadne, of course,]] isn't very happy about it.

Added DiffLines:

* HaveYouToldAnyoneElse: In the third episode, this is Palos's response when Cyrus mentions he has seen Elpis stealing a lock of Jason's hair. Needless to say, the conversation doesn't end well for Cyrus.

Added DiffLines:

* MurderTheHypotenuse: Having planned for Ariadne to marry Heptarian, Pasiphae is very eager to see Jason out of the way due to Ariadne's obvious interest in him.

'''Hercules''': I don't wish to be rude, but what in the name of the gods is ''he'' still doing here?

* LetThemDieHappy: Demetria's dying father asks if his daughter is happy and is told that she has gone to another city to marry her true love. Sadly it isn't true, she drank poison and killed herself due to being part of cult.

To be fair to them, Jason had just stolen some clothes and accidentally trashed a street market when he knocks over the DisasterDominoes. That was still no excuse for knocking over Pythagoras's table and chairs just to show who was boss though.

* BoisterousBruiser: Hercules is very much a bombastic drunk.
* ClassicalMythology: Just as ''Series/{{Merlin}}'' took a pick and mix approach to Arthurian mythology, ''Atlantis'' is taking the same approach to Classical Mythology and history.

* SpiritualSuccessor: Howard Overman was a frequent guest writer for ''Merlin'' and co-created the series with executive producers of that show Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy; the show also shares its filming base in Wales and some other creative talent such as directors and composer Rob Lane.

Massively cutting this down for now - there are similarities, yes, but most of this was way too much of a stretch after only one episode. For starters, Jason can\'t be an expy of both Merlin and Arthur, because then he\'s not an expy.

* {{Expy}}: As the SpiritualSuccessor of ''Merlin'', fans watching the first episode would be forgiven for playing a game of 'he/she's the [Merlin character] of the show'.
** Well let's start off with King Minos, with his line in the trailer ''"You dare to defy your king?"'' he's pretty much introduced himself as an expy of Uther. While he isn't downright evil, he isn't the nicest guy either.
** Then there's his daughter Ariadne who, much like Morgana, doesn't agree with every choice her father makes running the kingdom. She's Series 1 Morgana for now, but knowing what happened to Morgana in later series (turning to the dark side and going crazy), we should keep an eye on her.
** Pythagoras is pretty much a much younger version of Gaius. The smart guy who the hero meets within the first five minutes of him arriving in the city. His healing of Jason's arrow wound to the arm shows that he has some medical knowledge, and like Gaius he has to put up with the King's guard ransacking his chambers while searching for the hero, it won't be the last time that happens for sure. The only thing he lacks is Gaius' many years of experience, having witness both great and horrible things, Pythagoras is more innocent and naive compared to Gaius' wise old man persona.
** Let's not forget the hero himself, of course Jason will be compared to Merlin but he also has a lot in common with Arthur. While Merlin mostly used magic rather than sword skills and physical strength, not being exceptionally skilled at either of them, Jason doesn't have that luxury and soon has to learn to fight, luckily it isn't long before he gets experience. Like Merlin, Jason first arrives at the series main setting at the start of the first episode and it isn't long before he gets into trouble and meets new friends and enemies, he also has to keep his true nature secret from those who would seek to destroy him. Like both Merlin and Arthur, secrets and mystery surround Jason's origin and he soon finds out that he is destined for great things.
