# Characters.MagiaRecordWitchesDoppels: Like Walpurgisnacht, it was introduced as a raid boss at the end of the Puella Historia arc.
# Awesome.{{Rayman}}: The Final Boss battle (Reflux again, this time summoning lightning on you then growing gigantic) is no slouch either. It's long and epic with no less than four different phases.
# VideoGame.EtrianOdysseyIVLegendsOfTheTitan: There are two bosses which, if approached directly and challenged at once, will be sporting a full HP bar which is often too large for the party's resources to handle. This will mandate walking around the floor or boss room to trigger certain map events that will weaken it to manageable levels, going from this trope to Puzzle Boss. The two bosses in question are Boiling Lizard (Golden Lair) and Warped Savior (Hall of Darkness).
# VideoGame.SeaOfThieves: Played straight with the skeleton fleet battles in the Cursed Sails update, which blurs the line between this and Marathon Level. Multiple player crews are encouraged to cooperate to repeatedly sink one or more ships, typically Galleons, although the Shrouded Spoils update introduced Skeleton Sloops as well. Eventually, once enough waves of ships have been sunk and risen enough, one will rise from the deep with a named Skeleton at the helm to mark that it is the final ship, which will drop the good loot upon sinking.
# Characters.ShiftingWorldsAnathemusMythos: the final battle with him has four phases (including the hopeless one) and lasts several hours.
# YMMV.TowerOfFantasy: Even for a World Boss, Abyssal Harrah is very tedious, having two phases each with a mountain of health. The first phase is immobile but has devastating close-range attacks that make it very difficult to fight her with melee weapons, so most players are content to slowly chip away her health with ranged weapons. Even with at least 30 players all doing this, she's got so much HP that it takes upwards of twenty minutes to deplete all of it (before nerfs). The second phase is faster but also lacks the area denial and is easier to fight, but still has a lot of HP that will take more time to deplete. What's worse is that if you want to access the third layer of the Confounding Abyss by yourself, you will need to fight Harrah at least once since she guards the first conventional access point to that layer.
# AntiFrustrationFeatures.CopyKitty: Similarly, the fights against the respective bosses in the World 10 battle depending on your character require you to endure a long process of destroying their outer shells and breaking into their cores to take control of the mecha. Recognizing how frustrating it would be to die at this point, if you manage to die in this phase, you don't have to do the first 2 phases again.
# VideoGame.LittleRedRidingHoodsZombieBBQ: Level 3-1 consists entirely in a fight against a huge, horrific puppet that is walking on the docks besides the player. It then turns into a Puzzle Boss. It stops and begins throwing at the player giant explosive wrecking balls: the player must shoot at them, making them explode while they're swinging back, damaging the puppet in the process.
# Characters.DeltaruneCardKingdom: No matter what approach you go for, Jevil will take a long time to beat. Sparing him requires numerous turns of tiring him out, while his massive HP pool means that fighting won't bring him down in a hurry.
# VideoGame.{{Vanquish}}: The Bogey, despite only being the second boss, can be very frustrating, having high HP, fast flight abilities (making it difficult to hit with heavier weapons), Roboteching beam spams just like the player's Lock-On Laser, EMPs that cause Sam's armor to overheat, a plasma Wave-Motion Gun that can One-Hit Kill, and to top it all off, a Press X to Not Die sequence at the end.
# Characters.{{Okami}}: SequentialBoss: With five forms, he is also a MarathonBoss.
# VideoGame.ArcTheLad: Usually the last boss.
# Characters.YsMemoriesOfCelceta: He has three lifebars (the last form fortunately is a Clipped-Wing Angel), a laundry list of powerful attacks, is hard to hit, your attacks only do minuscule damage even with max EXP, and he can regenerate his HP.
# VideoGame.{{Hellsinker}}: Some bosses (namely Glorious Symbol and Rex Cavalier) can become this if you don't know how to deal with them. But even if you do know how to fight them, most boss fights will still last slightly longer than most shmup bosses do.
# Sandbox.SkylandersKaosAndTheDoomRaiders: As Ultra Traptanium Kaos in Trap Team. He has a stupendous amount of health, keeps players at bay with powerful shockwaves, and heals off nearly 40% of his health every time he changes phases.
# Characters.SilentHill3: The only boss fight in the game with different phases to it, four to be exact, as she'll change up her arsenal and approach against Heather to keep the player guessing.
# VideoGame.KingdomHeartsX: Higher-level Raid Bosses get this way. Most notable is the Fortress Crab, which in its first event appearance had a whopping three million HP and a timer of two hours even at level 1. It has even more in the weekend raid events. Within the story, there's the Darkside encountered in the Corridor of Darkness. Its attacks are on par with or weaker than previous bosses, but it comes with a whopping 40 health bars, as well as the ability to buff its defense and heal itself. It's nowhere near as long as a Raid Boss with HP in the millions, but relative to the rest of the story mode, it's enormous.
# VideoGame.DawnOfWar: Some of the bosses, especially in Dawn of War II and onwards, have a lot of hit points, and unless there are easier ways to take them out, expect to take a while killing them. Daemon Prince Kyras takes the cake, with his ability to summon infinite waves of Bloodletters and Bloodcrushers, along with his ability to summon three towers to shield his life bar from damage. The Great Unclean One from Chaos Rising. He has 2 million hit points at maximum, has several one-shot attacks, can flesh hook and throw characters out of the battle area and get them stuck and has a bug that can reset his hit points in full. He also comes after an extremely boring grind mission that takes upwards of an hour to get through, and the way the game works, if he kills you, you have to do the entire mission from scratch.
# ItsShortSoItSucks.VideoGames: While this trope doesn't apply to Dark Souls III itself, it's a common criticism of the first expansion Ashes of Ariandel. It adds only a couple of new areas and two bosses, one of which is optional and only really consists of fighting an NPC player character and a recurring King Mook simultaneously. While the other boss is generally regarded as one of the best in the series, the general consensus is that's not enough to justify the price tag. Since Ashes of Ariandel is one of the only two expansions Dark Souls 3 is getting it compares poorly to the DLC in the other entries in the series, (Dark Souls had one expansion with four bosses, Dark Souls II had three expansions with three bosses in each one and the Spiritual Successor Bloodborne had one expansion with five bosses) and as such it also raised concerns from fans about the longevity of the game compared to its predecessors.
# AwesomeBosses.OtherGamesNToZ: Radiant Historia's Final Boss battle is incredibly epic and challenging, and one hell of a send off for an amazing game. It's a MarathonBoss with three phases (four if you count the previous battle against the Black Chronicle) with three different movesets for each one, and it becomes fiercer and fiercer while you fight it, meaning that you really have to go all-out in this battle. All of this is set in Historia, with "An Earnest Desire of Grey" blaring in the background. The game itself was already awesome, but this battle takes it to the fullest, and it's especially satisfying after the slog that is the last dungeon.
# Characters.ToontownCorporateClash: Her cheat, Dive, involves her diving into the ground thus making it so you cannot attack her.note Though you can still place Trap gags on her. You can only lure once she gets out, however. Content Sync also makes it so you can only use Gags up to Level 3. She then promotes an available Cog to a Level 7 Executive. To get her out, you have to take out said Cog.note This sometimes doesn't happen, as she can Dive and promote no Cogs should one not be available. When this happens, she gets out after one round. Thing is, Toons are also subjected to drowning at the end of every round, taking 5 damage each, so make sure one of your teammates is stacked on Toon Up.Once the Executive is defeatednote Again, see previous note, Deep Diver jumps out and lands so hard all Toons are slammed with 7 damage each!
# YMMV.Splatoon1: Nearly everyone in the fandom agrees that the final boss of the first game is one of the best ones Nintendo has created; even people who otherwise found the single-player campaign to be sorely lacking had to admit it ended on a high note. The boss itself has plenty of points in the hilarity factor, being a Dumbass DJ who pilots a Humongous Mecha styled like a dance stage controlled by his turntable. Said mecha also comes loaded with a ton of missiles, giant mecha hands to crush you, enemy spawners, Killer Wails (it IS a giant music stage), and a humongous missile. The final boss has to be fought all across a hectic platforming stage that will put everything you've learned in single player to the test, and it lasts a lot longer than the previous bosses to milk the experience for all it's worth. Add some Awesome Music in the mix, and you get a very memorable end boss.
# Characters.OmoriHeadspace: Easily the longest boss fight in the game, having three separate phases with the last having a humongous health bar.
# Undertale.TropesOToZ: This is the only way to describe the No Mercy Run final boss, aka, the hardest boss in the entire game. You only face this rule-breaking MarathonBoss if you kill every single enemy possible, and he'll say anything he can to make you feel bad about it.
# VideoGame.YakuzaLikeADragon: ClimaxBoss: Yosuke Tendo. Also overlaps with MarathonBoss as he has the highest health out of any major boss encounter in the entire game.

Corobo can hurt enemies with the command action, and doing so makes taking down enemies and bosses far more difficult than if they're fought normally. For example, Duvroc can be taken down with only Corobo, but doing so turns him into a MarathonBoss thanks to his damage output being incredibly low and needing to be mindful of his attacks and minions thanks to his low health.
# GameBreaker.CapcomVs: Tekkaman's super moves are incredibly easy to accumulate, very powerful, can be done from a distance, and extremely hard to completely dodge, which means that even if they're blocked, the chip damage alone is sufficient. His Yatterman Charge is so useful and powerful that it can take down the Final Boss Yami, in all three of his forms without even breaking a sweat. It can still get you killed on higher difficulties if you're not careful, but it's certainly easier and shorter than the previous two bosses before it — one of which copies your Badge abilities and the other of which has six lifebars that are each about as long as those of other bosses — and especially the True Final Boss that comes in the next chapter.

While you do get a new party member for this fight, he's capable of shutting off your attack ability, forcing you to drain your limited magic points to zero, while he continues to attack you with powerful magic that hits your entire party and keeping your attack ability locked, leaving you helpless. Then, when you're low on health and magic points and need to use your items to recover, he'll switch on your attack ability and seal your item ability, which prevents you from healing, and forces you to continue fighting him while you're exhausted. This is likely because of the Demon Slayer Corps fight (with inclusion of "Showdown", a lengthy [[MarathonBoss Marathon Boss]] against Pyoro.

# Characters.DarkSoulsIIEnemyNPCsAndBosses: Due to its massive health bar and the scale of its attacks, almost always forcing you to reposition yourself every time it strikes, this boss is one of the longest fights in a Souls game, taking anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. God bless you if you brought in additional phantoms, in which case its health is multiplied.
# YMMV.YakuzaLikeADragon: Tendo can also be a candidate for this because of his One-Hit KO God's Right Hand attack, not taking into account the amount of health that can make him worthy of being a MarathonBoss. He also is only weak to (magic-based) Lightning attacks (Essence of Electromagnetic Shield, Essence of Orbital Laser, Fulminating Forecast), so you'll very likely be in for a long, brutal fight if you have anything else than three Enforcers and an Idol, and even if you do, you're just making it slightly less slow going. If you have neither, but managed to acquire Ichiban's Essence of Orbital Laser via the Company Management minigame (which is one of the most powerful magic-based Lightning attacks in the entire game, but also the most expensive at a whopping 200 MP), expect to be using many more MP restoration items than the fight's sheer length is already likely to demand.

# VideoGame.HeroCore: SequenceBreaking: You can bypass most of the game and get to the final boss with Expelling.MarathonBoss: Fittingly, the Plasma Hydra in Hard Mode. Also, Tetron and the Guardian.
# VideoGame.HercsAdventures: The Serpent in Colchis takes a lot of time to be defeated, as you have to destroy each of his segments plus his head twice, and since it just keep moving and spawning snakes it takes a while.
# Characters.AsurasWrath: One-man variant. The final fight with him causes the entire episode to last nearly a full hour, counting the cutscenes.
# YMMV.PhantasyStarOnline: Dark Falz's third form was a nightmare for android players, particularly HUcasts and HUcaseals. He jumps around the arena, rarely sticking in melee range for long, and flickers between semi-invulnerability (he's still vulnerable to techs - which androids don't have - and weapon specials - which runs off of MST, something Androids don't have) and vulnerability every 5 seconds or so. Since android hunters lack any weapon that has a range longer than a handgun (and aren't particularly accurate with ranged weapons either), this made damaging him extremely difficult. Add into this that Dark Falz is a MarathonBoss and androids have limited capability to heal themselves, and it basically meant that androids often had to be 5-10 levels higher than anyone else before they could solo Falz and move onto the next difficulty.
# NintendoHard.RolePlayingGames: Bloodborne, from the same lineage as Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, is also actually somewhat easier than its parents (especially for seasoned Souls veterans) thanks to its faster-pace gameplay and healing system that rewards aggressive play, along with its addition of effective ranged weapons. Guess what? It's still Nintendo Hard — especially once New Game Plus comes around, which is so difficult that Hidetaka Miyazaki himself admitted that he could barely beat it.It doesn't help that New Game Plus adds some minor Fake Difficulty elements in the form of freaking enormous health pools that turn every single enemy into damage sponges and every single boss into a tedious MarathonBoss, even with good gear.
# YMMV.LiterallyEveryFNFModEver: Little Man, the bonus song for Week 2, is a progressive track that lasts for a whopping seven and a half minutes, making it the MarathonBoss of the mod as it currently stands. Not only is it chock-full of references and memes from a variety of sources, it's quite the challenge to beat despite its recurring leitmotif, which is modified in ways that evoke some of SiIvaGunner's longer rips.
# VideoGame.GuitarHero: "Do You Feel Like We Do (Live)" on Guitar Hero 5 and "2112" on Warriors of Rock (though only if all seven songs are played one after the other, such as in the campaign).Warriors of Rock has another in the form of the final battle, but rather than a single track broken up into several parts, it's a trinity of Megadeth tracks (three Megadeth Tracks). Doesn't make it any less epic, though. Likewise "2112" is broken down into its seven parts, so it's not as much of a marathon as DYFLWD (or "Free Bird" back in GH2). Granted since these seven individual tracks are pretty short in length.
# VisualNovel.AceAttorneyInvestigationsMilesEdgeworth: Quercus Alba, current ambassador of Allehbast, is the leader of the international smuggling ring Franziska has been investigating since before the game even started. He ordered the murder of Cece Yew, thus kickstarting the KG-8 incident in the game's backstory. He personally kills Manny Coachen and Mask☆DeMasque II, kickstarting Case 5. He's also responsible for the counterfeit bill chaos in the Republic of Zheng Fa. And it takes a significantly long amount of time to prove all of his misdeeds because of his stubbornness and his extraterritorial rights as an ambassador.
# Characters.TeamGarcias: The Garcias managed to trick Team Gan Gan Galaxy into a rigged gauntlet match where there are no breaks in between the next opponent. They nearly won this way.
# YMMV.SinAndPunishmentStarSuccessor: EndingFatigue: One small criticism is the length of the game. An average run takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes, which feels too long by Shoot 'Em Up, Rail Shooter, and Run-and-Gun standards. You could be watching a movie with a runtime like that. Not helping much is that most of the stages are Marathon Levels, complete with MarathonBosses.
# Characters.StarTrekOnlineIconiansAndServants: Once she's finally drawn in for a fight the game lets you participate in, she's very durable. And reluctant to stay long.
# Characters.DarkSoulsIIIEnemiesAndBosses: Any attacks to parts of Wolnir that are not his bracelets will deal minimal damage. Destroying the bracelets, on the other hand, will take off more than a third of his entire health bar. You can, however, defeat him without destroying the bracelets, but good luck in doing so.
# Characters.TheBindingOfIsaacAntibirth: Downplayed. While the fight against it is still longer than a normal fight, it lacks the scaling damage resistance that the canon final bosses have, meaning that it's a relative Glass Cannon.
# VideoGame.TerminatorResistance: SuperPrototype: The T-850 infiltrator is one sent from the future by Skynet, as a result it's tougher than an entire squad of T-800s and is fought as a MarathonBoss that's very tough even with an entire squad of Resistance fighters backing you up. The giant Centurion Spider Tank from the Annihilation Line DLC is implied to be one. It's the only one Skynet has ever fielded in the franchise's history, making its first appearance mere days before Skynet's defeat, but damn if it isn't powerful and terrifying.
# Characters.FinalFight2: Despite having only one phase, he has a lot of healthbars and takes forever to kill.
# Characters.{{Lufia}}: Goldiark has 8000 HP, which is not only nearly four times more than the boss preceding it, but is also double that of the Super Boss!
# Characters.LikeADragonGaidenTheManWhoErasedHisName: He has a whopping four phases to his (final) boss fight with 12 health bars in total, more than any other boss in Gaiden.
# VideoGame.TheHalloweenHack: Dr. Andonuts has tons of HP, so much so that not even PSI Bitchkill will kill him in one hit.
# Characters.GoldenSunBosses: Has 16,000 HP, which he recovers 200 at a time.
# Characters.FateGrandOrderORT: The most extreme case in the game. When you finally get to fight it properly, it has 10 break bars of 1.000.000 HP each (which the game encourages you to solo by the way, as you're trying to use as few servants as possible), then you are treated to five break bars of 1.200.000 HP each, and after that a single break bar of 2.000.000 HP. If you clear all that without losing all your servants before clearing this last bit, then you get a proper party boss fight with 3.000.000 HP. And after THAT, you have to fight ORT-Xibalba (aka this thing reviving itself from the dead), which has 6 break bars with 1.600.000 HP total, and deliberately slows you down by doing stuff like preventing you from using Arts Cards or forcing you to clear the last Break Bar with a solo. It is, bar none, the longest main story fight yet, by a long, LOOOONG shot.
# VideoGame.StarwardRogue: The Warden has far more health than the other bosses, and also has four durable mooks fighting with him. Terminus, on the other hand, is technically a fight against 3 different bosses.
# VideoGame.EtrianOdysseyIIHeroesOfLagaard: While a lot of bosses suffer from HP bloat in the remake, the three elemental Dragons get particularly nasty about it. The main issue is that they also summon a core that casts an elemental attack that grows stronger for every turn the core is alive, so you can't just ignore it or it will become too strong to handle. The cores have a non-trivial amount of HP, so you're going to need to take time off the main body to fight it, and the dragon can regenerate it periodically during the fight. All this, while the dragon continues to harass you with deadly attacks. The Great Dragon is the worst of them all, sporting 72,000 HP and a core with 13,000, on top of sky-high Strength that can one-shot your more fragile party members. You have a Guest-Star Party Member to help you out, but she's so poorly optimized she might as well be a meat shield.
# YMMV.TurboOverkill: ArcFatigue: Some criticism has been levied against the Vector-4 section for stretching the climax of the game a bit too much, as it goes on for two hours through three separate areas and is capped off by the absolute MarathonBoss that is Maw. And there's still one more level and boss to take care of after that!
# Characters.LibraryOfRuinaAbnormalities: BossRush: To fully upgrade a Floor to its' fullest capacity, you must defeat a melting-down Angela/Roland in a MarathonBoss-esque sequence, where they'll use the E.G.O. based on the Abnormalities faced on said floor back-to-back, as well as an additional one only used during their suppressions.
# SequentialBoss.PlatformGame: Mr. Dark assaults you for a bit, then disappears and sics three mash-ups of the previous bosses on you. Rayman 2: The Great Escape: You fight Golgroth on the Crow's Nest, then both of you fall into a lava-filled chamber for Round 2. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc: The battle against Reflux gets a bit ridiculous. First, you fight his normal form, then he transforms into a giant, warty monster. After that, he grows some wings and you have to work your way up to his level and shoot missiles at him. Then, you have a dogfight with him and, finally, use the same plane to kill a ton of Hoodlums before they regenerate his health.

# ThatOneSidequest.FinalFantasy: The Cactuar searching sidequest from X is back with a vengeance. This time, however, it encompasses the entirety of Spira, so have fun to decipher cryptic messages to find the little green buggers. There is still an annoying (if optional to complete) minigame to play, and the sidequest is capped off by two bosses, one of which is truly hard [[MarathonBoss Marathon Boss]], being only behind Via Infinito bosses in terms of difficulty.
# Characters.DarkSoulsIIEnemyNPCsAndBosses: Due to its massive health bar and the scale of its attacks, almost always forcing you to reposition yourself every time it strikes, this DestinyTheVex: The Templar's boss fight is a multi-phase one where Guardians have to defend objectives for a number of cycles, destroy a certain type of enemy or risk a Total Party Wipe, then take on the longest fights in a Souls game, taking anywhere from 10 Templar itself, all while trying to 20 minutes. # VideoGame.EtrianOdysseyIIHeroesOfLagaard: While a lot of bosses suffer from HP bloat

# ThatOneLevel.RhythmGame: "MILF",
the three elemental Dragons get particularly nasty about it. third and final song of Week 4. It's basically "Dad Battle", but faster, more aggressive, and more note-heavy. The main issue is that they notes are much more varied too, with having to flip between fast-paced hold notes followed by storms of regular notes. You'll also summon a core that casts an elemental attack that grows stronger for every turn the core is alive, so you can't just ignore it or it will become too strong to handle. The cores have a non-trivial amount of HP, so you're going to need to take time off the main body to fight it, and the dragon can regenerate it periodically during the fight. All this, while the dragon continues to harass you be harmonizing with deadly attacks.
And
opponent, Mommy Mearest, almost constantly, meaning there's still one more level and boss hardly a moment to take care of after that!

# OnePieceWholeCakeIslandArc.TropesKToN: Luffy spent
a melting-down Angela/Roland in a MarathonBoss-esque sequence, where they'll use whopping 11 hours fighting Charlotte Cracker with assistance from Nami. He spent most of that time eating all the E.G.O. based on Biscuit Armor constructs Cracker would make, and took advantage of a rare switch of offense battling that Cracker made to beat him. This is almost certainly the Abnormalities faced on said floor back-to-back, as well as an additional one only used during their suppressions.
# SequentialBoss.PlatformGame: Mr. Dark assaults you for
longest time Luffy had spent fighting a bit, then disappears and sics three mash-ups of the previous bosses on you. Rayman 2: The Great Escape: You fight Golgroth on the Crow's Nest, then both of you fall into a lava-filled chamber for Round 2. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc: The single adversary. His battle against Reflux gets Katakuri lasts just about as long, and the majority of it consists of Luffy taking and resisting Katakuri's attacks, having only been able to lay a bit ridiculous. # VideoGame.{{Okami}}: The Mini-Boss battles during the Bandit Spider challenges are very lenghty, since both the minibosses involved and the enemies have their HP significantly buffed. Among the regular bosses, Orochi stands out for the need to destroy the seal (within a bell) in
his health.central belly, and then the eight heads one by one. There's also Yami, which has to be fought across five lenghty phases, and in them Amaterasu has to retrieve the stolen brush techniques one by one, which further prolongs the fight.

# YMMV.IdleChampionsOfTheForgottenRealms: The Tomb of the Nine Gods, unsurprisingly. You need to beat level 250, and several boss encounters such as the Stone Juggernaut, the three Hags with extremely damaging lightning attacks, or Acererak and the Soulmonger are difficult and/or long, requiring sufficiently leveled characters to beat. The "The Soulmonger Calls" variant is worse, where you need to beat level 275 where all characters have 50% their max HP and any character who dies is gone for the whole adventure. The "Azaka's Procession" variant is even worse, where you need to beat level 300 with your center slot being taken up by Azaka's dead body.

# VideoGame.TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsFromZeroAndTrailsToAzure: As per tradition in the series. In case you die in a phase, you can restart again from the beginning of that phase rather than having to replay the entire sequence.
# VideoGame.SecondExtinction: The mutant T-Rex, who only have a handful of attacks (consisting of biting and trampling at you) but tanks your grenades, bullets and everything you throw at it like no tomorrow.
# VideoGame.XMenMutantApocalypse: AdaptationalBadass: While definitely a Badass in the comics, Final Boss Magneto gets this cranked up to eleven in the game. He's given twice as much health as the two bosses detailed directly below, Apocalypse and Exodus, as well as Juggernaut, all of whom are better at taking a beating than he is in the comics. Despite this toughness upgrade, he is also allowed to keep his signature Deflector Shield, meaning that in spite of all that health you'll only have a short window of opportunity in his attack patterns to hit him. Unsurprisingly, he's the only boss in the game that qualifies for MarathonBoss status.

# Characters.SwordArtOnlineBosses: In the end, it ends up taking over an hour to defeat. And the hour in question is spent trying to escape the Boss Room.
# SlidingScale.SNKBoss: Has MarathonBoss levels of health, attacks that can wipe out 75% of even the bulkiest character's health bar, has teleportation and unblockable attacks, and zips around at hyperspeed.
# Awesome.ChildrenOfMorta: The Final Battle against Ou has you start out in a fairly difficult fight, than an Unexpected Gameplay Change where you must manuever through darkness to find the rest of the family. After that, Ou reappears, health fully restored. MarathonBoss, right? No, that's when all seven of the Bergsons appear and attack Ou in unison, shredding his health in seconds.
# GameBreaker.FinalFantasy: Quick freezes game-time and lets your character perform two actions without interruption. Sap drains HP in real-time, and nothing resists it (because it is horrendously slow; something like 7.5 damage per second). Using Sap as your first action, and then never taking your second action, will turn anything into a Marathon Zero-Effort Boss. This was unfortunately nerfed in the Pixel Remaster.
# ThatOneAttack.TouhouProject: Rinnosuke's ability to change elemental forms, making what's already a MarathonBoss even more drawn-out. Not only that, his inactive forms actually regenerate HP.
# Characters.ToTheBitterEnd: He has 202,950 HP.
# VideoGame.LunacyStar: Minor case- the final boss can take as much time as the first half of the game.
# YMMV.MegaManUnlimited: Nail Man doesn't leave himself too vulnerable with his Nail Shield, meaning his boss fight can sometimes reach MarathonBoss levels, but nevertheless, there's not much to worry about on it. As long as you watch out the pattern on which his nails fall, avoid the one nail acting as a pretty short-lived hazard, and you pelt him with buster shots after you watch where he falls without getting cornered, he shouldn't be terrible. And the icing on the cake is that Nail Man gives you one of the most useful weapons in the game. There's a few reasons why this boss is fought first, after all.
# Characters.SagaMetroid: This in text form as the final fight sequence with them is by far the longest continual action sequence in the entirety of the series so far.
# VideoGame.SpandexForce: The player's clone has 1000 HP. Considering that the previous boss had 500, beating it will take a while, even if you use Ragnarok at every opportunity as it also blocks about 60% damage from that move.
# Characters.BrutalOrchestra: It has 300 health, more than both of the final bosses, though it's mitigated by the fact that it frequently damages itself.
# Roleplay.ShiftingWorldsAnathemusMythos: The Nihilus Clan battle was probably the longest boss battle in the history of the forum.
# VideoGame.WrathOfTheFallen: Most of them to some degree, but especially Unknown, which consists of 4 long phases of exploration and combat before you reach the final boss.
# Characters.ACertainMagicalIndexEngland: She No Sells an air raid and gets off from what can only be described as a magic bomb with only Clothing Damage and some bleeding. Touma even lampshades it by comparing her to a boss with tons of HP.
# VideoGame.LittleKingsStory: Some players occasionally go out of their kingdom without their posse.
Yatterman-1 has super attacks that automatically put him on this list considering how fast and powerful they are. His Yatterman Charge is so useful and powerful that it can take down the Final Boss Yami, in all three of his forms without even breaking a sweat. By far the most formidable character in the original release of TvC, Cross Generation of Heroes, is Karas. His pressure game combined with his speed created nearly inescapable corner traps. If on defense, you had to do everything you could to get out of the corner when fighting him or it was a doomed game. Thankfully, his speed has been significantly reduced for the update Ultimate All-Stars and thus has been brought down to a more reasonable level.
# Characters.IncarnationOfLegends: Artoria is ludicrously overpowered. She has a skill similar to Liaris Freese that works so long as she's fighting alongside her familia on top of massively boosting their Endurance. She has three extremely powerful and useful magics in Excalibur (a Sword Beam that will obliterate even a Monster Rex), Avalon (an incredibly powerful Deflector Shield that also purges all negative effects), and Mana Burst (a chantless spell that expends Mind for a massive increase to Artoria's already monstrous stats). She also has eight Developmental Abilities through her Dragon Core Reactor skill, two of which are at an unheard of D Rank (for context, even Ottar's highest level skill is at E rank). It's little wonder that she's the Empire's strongest.
# Characters.CodexEquusTheDarkPurveyors: AdaptationalBadass: Lewis Legend is a superpowered elite zombie who can wield a guitar-gun and drive an elephant-themed Mini-Mecha, and is a MarathonBoss who takes seven finishers to kill him. Here, he's a bonafide god who embodies the harmful, enduring aspects of fury, especially when it's applied to things like music and technology. Lewis' Elephant-themed Mini-Mecha is depicted here as a powerful 'One-Winged Angel' form where he transforms into a gigantic, demonic, twisted, Elephant-like beast with pieces of technology forcibly grafted onto his body. He's also a skilled guitarist who was tutored by Blue Suede Heartstrings himself, and was a powerful Super-Soldier in his youth, which granted him enhanced physical capabilities, greater magi reserves, and deadly combat skills.
# Anime.YuGiOh5Ds: ChekhovsGun: You acquire a Blank Card somewhere in the middle of the plot of WC 2011. Just before the final MarathonBoss, your Blank Card transforms into three very powerful monsters. They turn blank again after the duel.
# VideoGame.MakeAGoodLevelX: As levels have no length limit, some levels have lasted longer than others to the frustration of raocow and Horikawa. Some notable examples include "Swimming in the Sinking Ocean", aka "the Atlantis level", and "A Dreamland Castle Ship" from the first contest, and "Demonic Gathering", "Hey Buddy! Get Your Rip Van Fish Off My Keep", and "Personally, I Think Mario is Missing is a Very Observant and Fantastic Experience. I Captured That Here" from the second contest. The postgame for the second game has THREE relay levels (collaboration levels made by numerous users with one screen each, based off the A2XT relay level) in the final tier: The SMBX Community one ("Juxtaposition"), the talkhaus one ("You Only Have Yourself to Blame"), and the MaFAB one.
# YMMV.RabiRibi: The Chapter 7 endboss in System Interior II is surprisingly easy, considering the Platform Hell that comes before it. It's not an actual character with a level or even a Life Meter, just a network security system that throws some pretty uninteresting bullet patterns at Erina while she floats up and down constantly; all you have to do is Hold the Line until the "boss" "fight" ends.
# VideoGame.TouhouPocketWarsEvolution: BossBattle: Many of the bosses are immune to instant death, for obvious reasons. Dual Boss: The first boss fight of the game is one of these. Sequential Boss and MarathonBoss: The final stretch of the Evolution Plus story has you first fight a party of three, another party of three and finally the actual Final Boss. Wake-Up Call Boss: Tenshi, who will likely kick your ass without having a solid number of levels under your belt and a decent understanding of the combat mechanics. Also, Ichirin for the Plus content, who will do the same thing if you jumped straight into to the Plus story without any grinding done before hand.
# AdaptationalBadass.CodexEquus: Lewis Legend is a superpowered elite zombie who can wield a guitar-gun and drive an elephant-themed Mini-Mecha, and is a MarathonBoss who takes seven finishers to kill him. # Characters.Yakuza1: The very first boss in the series to 6 bars of health in a single Boss Fight. Twice as much as the maximum 3 that Ryuji would have in the two seperate instances he's fought during the finale. He's got 7 in Kiwami 2 which arguably makes him tougher than most of the series' Final Bosses.
# Funny.Destiny2: The normal way to finish this strike is to defeat Thaviks, which can take up to 10 minutes due to his high health and constant teleporting away in-between phases....or you can simply shoot him while he's climbing on the walls at any point in the fight, making him fall into the Bottomless Pit below.
# VideoGame.EternalTwilight: Even with optimal gameplay, almost every boss is intended to take anywhere from tens of minutes to over an hour, especially on Hell mode.
# StrictlyFormula.VideoGames: Hunters, being a Gaiden Game, skips the first bit and has the fetch quest as the primary objective in the game from the get-go.
# YMMV.IMissTheSunrise: ThatOneBoss: Lazarus. Duel Boss, MarathonBoss, fought under the effects of a jamming pulse, and one of their attacks can leave you a sitting duck if you're unprepared.
# YMMV.AstralChain: The final two forms of the Final Boss, Noah Prime and Final Noah Prime, are far more difficult than any boss prior. Whereas using specific Legions can help against other bosses, here you must use the correct Legion to counter many of its attacks otherwise you can expect to burn through all your healing items and AED charges as its attacks are very punishing and can take off hundreds of HP at a time, or just deliver an outright One-Hit Kill. Furthermore, it has a mountain of hit points and while transforming can help take off a good fraction of the lifebar, it takes so long to charge up the Resonance meter that you can only really use it once in the fight.
# VideoGame.MetroidPrimeFederationForce: The Mainframe has three distinct phases, must be fully depleted of its substantial health to move to its next phase, and takes a lot of time and effort to become vulnerable. For solo players, it can be a long fight.
# Characters.PunishingGrayRavenHumanFactions: Where most bosses have 30 bars of health, or 50 on harder difficulties, Amberia has a whopping 100 bars of health to get through. Worse, during her stint as an event boss, one of her moves is using one of her totems to regenerate her health, making it a race against time to destroy it before she gets too much back.
# Characters.Rayman3HoodlumHavoc: The final battle with him in Hoodlum Havoc has four separate phases until he finally goes down for good.
# Characters.HomestuckGuardians: Their mating apparently lasted for sweeps.
# Literature.NESGodzillaCreepypasta: In Extus, Chimera takes Zachary a long time to kill. And that doesn't count the Boss Rush of Replacement Monsters that precedes it. Red's final form and his absolutely massive health bar. It's implied that, even using Acacius, it took a while to defeat.
# Characters.DemonSlayerKimetsuNoYaibaTwelveKizuki: All of the Twelve Kizuki that the Demon Slayer Corps fight (with the exception of Kaigaku) are extremely difficult to bring down, requiring upwards of a dozen chapters just to fend off. And sometimes the Slayers aren't even able to kill them.
# Characters.TerrariaCalamity: The battle tends to play out like this; It's got high health and teleports a lot, but will also hit you pretty infrequently.
# Characters.FinalFantasyVIIOtherCharacters: If you wish to fight Emerald and/or Ruby Weapon, you will be dealing with them for at least 15 minutes each (unless the player does Cait Sith's One-Hit Kill slot move or is underpowered; in the latter, the two Weapons will break AVALANCE apart in only a few moves). Chasing Ultimate Weapon also can take a while.
# VideoGame.EnchantedArms: The Emperor of Earth, as well as Bonus Boss Omega and Infinity.
# Characters.YuGiOhArcVYuyaCounterparts: It takes eleven duelists facing him in seven separate rounds in a Duel spanning four episodes to finally bring Zarc down.
# VideoGame.CTwelveFinalResistance: SuspiciousVideoGameGenerosity: Right before the confrontation against the Alien Leader, Vaugh can enter an armoury filled with a mountain of weaponry, ammunition, shield packs, health boosts and various goodies. Which he will need in the next area, fighting the Final Boss which is an extremely powerful MarathonBoss.
# YMMV.ClusterTruck: ThatOneBoss: Truck Satan is a brutal MarathonBoss that lasts longer than any level in the game, all the while forcing the player to dodge lasers, fire, lava, his mace, and exploding trucks.
# VideoGame.StarFox1: Yes, you can guess how annoying the slot machine is.
# VideoGame.RobotWants: Most bosses in Fishy, and Tom Stone/Kitty in Ice Cream.
# Characters.DragonsDogmaDarkArisen: Upon defeating him for a second time, the face on his stomach grows more prominent and his entire combat style changes, with fully restored and enormously buffed health. This "awakened" form poses a challenge even to those who have struck the level limit, as he has a penchant for spamming magic attacks and setting you on fire when you try to scale him.
