* AchievementMockery: The [=PS3=] port has a trophy for losing rock-paper-scissors [[EpicFail even while using a Telepathy Ball]], and a trophy for running out of lives in Janken's dungeon with less than $400. Both trophies are named "Shameful" and "Tears of Regret" respectively.
* DiscOneFinalDungeon: The blue castle. By the time you've reached it, the three Heads have been defeated and since it's a castle with a dark atmosphere and spooky music, it must be the end, but there are still a few levels to go.
* LethalLavaLand: The volcano, which has several pools of hot lava that kills Alex on touch.
* RecurringBoss: The three heads show up twice throughout the game.
* RuleOfThree: The King has three henchmen who have to be defeated in three janken matches each.
* SequelHook: The ending mentions that some doubt still lingers in Alex's mind as to whether or not the enemy forces have actually been destroyed, and additionally, the location of King Sander is still unknown.
* TakenForGranite: The King tells Alex that he'll turn him into a stone if he loses.
* TrialAndErrorGameplay: The RPS matches aren't actually random, the bosses always pick the same moves, though you won't know that if you're playing for the first time. Once you fail, you'll know what moves to use next time.
* TurnsRed: The bull boss, which turns faster and faster the more you hit it.

* ToyTime: The first stage is a world of toys. with dice to walk on, toy cars riding and card enemies.
* TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon: Ziggurat's Lair, which is a space level which you visit after getting all stars.
* WeaponsGradeVocabulary: Toy dogs attack with the words "BOW WOW".
* AWinnerIsYou: All you get for beating all stages twice is the same cutscene you already saw 15 minutes ago and the words "THE END".

* GuideDangIt: To get the pass, Alex must pray at the temple 100 times, and there's nothing in the game that would indicate that you have to do that. There are two other ways, but that's one's the easiest and works all the time.
* HighVoltageDeath: Trying to use the broken computer makes Alex get an electric shock which causes a game over.
* MoneyForNothing: All the money you can get and items you can find/buy in the town are fully unnecessary (including a book to printing passes and a printing press), since all you need to get the pass is to pray 100 times or enter a certain house at 1 PM. That said, you can still bribe the gate guard with 2000 GP if you do get it.
* NintendoHard: All levels in the game are fiendish. The first stage is a tough to navigate castle with an obtuse design. The second is a platformer with evil enemy placement and plenty of coins that are ultimately useless. The third has several dickish traps that may render the game impossible and an utterly bizarre solution to how to proceeed. The fourth is similar to the second, but with new, more annoying enemies.
* OnlySmartPeopleMayPass: To get one map piece, Alex must answer ten quiz questions about things you'd typically learn at school about like math or biology... oh, and ''VideoGame/SpaceHarrier''.
* PasswordSave: The game is saved on a ten-character password with lowercase letters and uppercase letters, and top it off, once you enter the password screen, you can't exit it until you actually input a correct password.
* PrankCall: Alex can call 911 for no reason. The policeman calls him out on it, saying "You shouldn't make crank calls!"
* RedHerring: The pistol in the second house and the book for printing passes. The first can be used at the right time, but the second is ultimately useless, plus taking them makes Alex get captured if he tries to go through the checkpoint.
* ScoldedForNotBuying: Alex can enter the rice store, but he doesn't plan to buy any rice there. The salesman tells him to get out of the store if he's not going to buy.
* SuperDrowningSkills: If Alex falls into the water even once, he's screwed.
* TimedMission: The game starts at 9 AM and you must get to the arcade by 5 PM, otherwise it's game over. At least each minute moves in real time, so it's quite lenient.
