Now, the Merciless Peppers of Quetzalacatenango that Homer ate, those are fictional. Ridiculously spicy peppers exist though. The currently highest contender is the "ghost chili" which is cultivated in India and the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Carolina reaper]], grown in the southern United States. For reference, it's described to be five times hotter than habanero and the Carolina reaper is 50% hotter than that.
