The book continues 2 years after the main/RiseOfKyoshi, and by this point, Kyoshi can at least bend all the elements, but is far from a master. Haunted both by the disappearance of Yun, and her Avatar duties mostly consisting of wheedling Earth Kingdom Politicians trying to curry her favor, Kyoshi is drawn into a Fire Nation succession crisis between the official heir Zoryu, who whilst seeming weak and vacillating [[spoiler: is concealing a much darker side, and has to be stopped by Kyoshi sending Lao Ge to stop him from committing mass murder]]. Further, Yun has re-emerged and is now carving a path of bloody destruction across the nations for wronging him in various fashions, making it necessary for Kyoshi to stop him.
