Bykov wants to test his old interns' commanding skills in order to learn who would be a better replacement for him if for whatever reason he would need to appoint one, by assigning them to command his current interns. Unfortunately for poor interns (new ones, not old ones), in Bykov's mind, "commanding skills" equals despotism. He even provides them with jars, where they may (figuratively) collect interns' tears.

Gleb takes Alexei, Semyon -- Maxim, and Phil -- Sophia. Gleb and Semyon acts like petty tyrants to their "subordinates", while Phil utterly fails at his role, as he's just too nice to act like Bykov, which doesn't even surprise Sophia; he can only hope that she would screw up somewhere and give him an excuse to yell on her. He later tries to yell on her over minor problem (which she saw by herself and even warned him), but immediately apologises once he sees her breaking into tears. Meanwhile, Maxim, being the smug snake he is, decides to simply bribe Semyon, by filling his jar with beer in exchange for being freed from work; he would give even more if Semyon wouldn't yell and insult him. But he decides to milk the situation further, and, after coming along with Semyon's boss and colleagues, sends him to buy beer, while staying to play card games with his new friends. And Gleb goes overboard with abusing Lyosha, which leads to him snapping and warning Gleb that if he continues, Alexei would break his nose; Gleb decides to not find out wether it's an empty threat or not.

Friends realises that something goes wrong with their task, and that they ''all'' are on the brink of failure. And then Phil suggests to just switch interns. Semyon agrees and suggests that he would take Alexei, Phil would take Maxim and Gleb would take Sophia. Phil feels that it's much easier to yell on Max, whom he dislikes, but Maxim receives Kupitman on his side through another scheme (Kupitman's suffering from hangover, and wants to not be disturbed); Phil's attempt to deal with him only leads to Kupitman punishing him for noises which Max made. Gleb tries to abuse Sophia, but she interprets it as a petty revenge for her refusing his advances, and agrees to "do it" quickly if it means that he would leave her alone -- only for him to immediately rush out once he realises what she's trying to do when he sees her naked. And Semyon tries to show Alexei who's boss here, but realises that he doesn't know what to do with his patient himself, and has to read the medical literature to even be able to order him around properly -- at which Lyosha busts him and suggests to just give the books to him, at which point he stops taking Lobanov seriously.

Gleb suggested to change interns ''again''. Phil takes Alexei, and straight away warns him that he wants only one thing: that Alexei would do exactly what asked, quietly and without screwups... only for Alexei to immediately drop all the folders from a table, at which point Phil genuinely snaps at him -- which Lyosha finds ''funny''. Semyon wants simply dropping all work on intern so he may finally rest, only to find Sophia in tears: she think that Gleb tricked her into offering herself to him, only to then reject her, in order to humiliate her, and likely now brags about his "victory" to everyone else. And Gleb tries to order Max around, only for Max to correctly guess that Gleb has no real authority and no way to enforce his orders without Bykov's help (which is exactly against the rules); he's right, because when Gleb tries to ask Bykov to give Maxim a night shift, Bykov immediately disqualifies him -- and gives him a night shift.

Phil and Semyon fairs no better. Phil fails, because by the end of the day, Alexei ''still'' can't stop laughing. As for Lobanov, when Bykov sees Sophia crying, he tells that Semyon is a "winner", but when Phil and Gleb leaves, he gets angry at Lobanov: "the jar full of tears" was a ''metaphor''! Semyon takes the blame for Gleb (who was the actual cause of Sophia's crying), as otherwise Bykov would learn what has happened between her and Gleb, but as result he gains a night shift when Bykov asks Gennadiy to punish him. AS the three friends are on the night shift now, the only thing they can do is to drink together; for that, they have three jars which fits perfectly to smuggle beer in them.

shift ''to him''.

Phil and Semyon fairs fares no better. ** Phil is too nice. As result, he fails to yell on Sophia (the one time he tries, he ''apologises'' immediately), while Maxim simply tricks him into no-win situation. And Alexei outright considers him being ''funny'' when angry!
** Semyon, to put in simply, is too dumb to enforce any kind of authority on either Maxim or Lyosha. He never tries with Sophia, because she was driven to tears already before he even took her to himself.
** Gleb goes overboard with[[DrillSergeantNasty Bykov-like mannerism]], which [[BewareTheNiceOnes enrages Alexei enough to threaten to break his face]], and (indirectly) drives Sophia to tears, which actually [[EveryoneHasStandards enrages]] Bykov (fortunately for him, Semyon takes all the blame, because he was the last to work with her). While Max flat out admits that Gleb has no real authority and any way to enforce his rules. He gets proven right when Gleb tries to ask Bykov to confirm Maxim's punishment, and gets disqualified for failing to deal with problems by himself.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: When Gleb goes too far with his abuse (when he started rather hysterically shouting insults on Lyosha and hitting his head with a clinical history), Alexei (who normally acts very calm and gentle) just presses him to the wall and warns him that if he would do anything like this again, he would break his face. He doesn't raise his voice even once, but Gleb immediately realises that this is not an empty threat.
* BookDumb: When Semyon tries to order Alexei around, turns out that Semyon knows nothing about Lyosha's patient himself, meaning that he has no way to check wether Alexei does everything correct or not, forcing him to read everything himself. Then he realises that Alexei doesn't know correct treatment, either, forcing Semyon to read about it, too. The situation repeats several times, until Alexei just busts him with a book, and asks wether he may just take the book and cut them all some time.
* BrickJoke: Near beginning of the episode Maxim "bribes" Semyon with a jar full of beer. Episode ends with Semyon, Gleb and Phil each bringing one beer jar to their night shift.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Entire premise of the episode; Bykov wants to test his old interns' abilities to "rule" in [[BadBoss Bykov-like manner]], so he can see wether they may be entrusted to replace him if a need raises. How? By appointing them to command Bykov's current interns for a day; a "winner" would be decided by comparing whose intern would be more miserable by the end of the day. Results are... not the ones they've expected:
** At first, Phil takes Sophia, Semyon takes Maxim and Gleb takes Alexei:
*** Phil is [[NiceGuy not nasty enough to act like Bykov]]. At first, he just fails to abuse Sophia, and later almost does, but then ''apologises'' when he realises that she was ''really'' hurt by his rude behaviour.
*** Semyon falls for [[ManipulativeBastard Maxim's manipulations]], allowing him to slack. And then Max befriends Semyon's boss who forces ''Semyon himself'' to do some errant for them, while Maxim continues slacking.
*** Gleb goes overboard with "nasty" part, leading to Alexei snapping, after which Gleb realises that not only Lyosha isn't afraid of him, he is actually stronger than him, and attempts to abuse Lyosha again would end badly for Gleb himself.
** After initial failure, they changes interns, but this does nothing to improve their results:
*** Phil was unable to yell on Sophia, who was actually competent unlike the other interns. Not so much on [[TokenEvilTeammate Maxim]], whom he openly dislikes. Unfortunately, Max realises that Phil tries to avoid awakening Kupitman (who suffers from hangover and thus would be in ''terrible'' mood if disturbed), and intentionally drops a glass jar in order to do exactly that, then volunteers to "guard" Kupitman's sleep by sitting in front of his office, which means that Phil can't kick him out without provoking Kupitman's wrath. Phil tries to use Max's own trick, but Maxim actually manages to run away, while Phil doesn't; later we would learn that Phil was punished with a night shift.
*** Gleb continues his "[[{{Jerkass}} methods]]" on Sophia, who interprets it as his petty revenge for her refusing his advances. She agrees to "do it" quickly if it means to never see him again -- only for him to just leave when she starts undressing, both because of Kupitman's ultimatum and because he doesn't want it like this.
*** Semyon tries to show Alexei who is boss here, which makes Alexei realise that they're simply trying to copy Bykov, and point out that after chewing them out for their failures, Bykov actually explains ''what'' they were supposed to do instead -- and Lobanov realises that he [[BookDumb just doesn't know himself what to do with Alexei's patient]], forcing him to sit and read the medical literature. Then it turns out that Alexei is unaware about the treatment, either, forcing Semyon to read about it, too. Ultimately, Semyon gets busted with the book, and Alexei asks wether he may simply take it himself and cut them all some time.
** By the end, they swaps interns again, this time only wanting to just calmly finishing the day, not longer hoping for anything; it still ends disastrously:
*** Phil warns Alexei upfront that he wants only one thing: him doing exactly what Phil asks, without objections and screwups. Alexei immediately accidentally drops all the folders from a table, leading to Phil snapping at him genuinely. Lyosha feels unimpressed by his anger, actually considering it to be more "funny" than scary, and Phil fails to force him into doing anything. Naturally, Bykov considers it to be a failure.
*** Semyon wants some rest after doing so much work today, only to find Sophia crying. Why? Because she was traumatised by what happened with Gleb earlier, and thinks that he did this to humiliate her. Semyon takes the credit for it, but Bykov reacts [[EveryoneHasStandards very badly]] and not only not accepted it as "win", but actually punished Semyon (through Gennadiy) for being ''too nasty''.
*** Gleb tries to order Max around, which he completely ignores, even after being threatened with a night shift; Gleb promptly ups it to two shifts. When reminded that only Bykov can assign them on the night shifts and sarcastically asked to just give him seven shifts right away, Gleb tries to ask Bykov wether he may punish Maxim -- and Bykov immediately states that Gleb failed the challenge: they were supposed to deal with problems ''without'' Bykov.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Bykov calls Semyon "a winner" for driving Sophia to tears (in fact, Semyon is completely unrelated to Sophia's condition; it was Gleb's fault) when talking with Gleb and Phil; but when they leaves, he immediately calls Semyon a moron for interpreting his metaphor about "jar of teas" literally, and doesn't even try to hide his disgust. He actually compares him to nazi for sheer cruelty, and asks Gennadiy to punish Semyon with a night shift. While not directly stated, it's fairly obvious that Bykov does not consider Semyon really "winning" his challenge, as its purpose was to test who may fit as Bykov's replacement in the future.

Bykov wants to test his old interns' commanding skills in order to learn who would be better replacement for him if for whatever reason he would need to appoint one, by assigning them to command current ones. Unfortunately for poor interns (new ones, not old ones), in Bykov's mind, "commanding skills" equals despotism. He even provided them with jars, where they may (figuratively) collect interns' tears. Gleb took Alexei, Semyon -- Maxim, and Phil -- Sophia.

While Gleb and Semyon acted like petty tyrants to their "subordinates", Phil utterly failed at his role, because he is just too nice to act like Bykov; Sophia was not even surprised by this. Now, Phil hopes she would screw up somewhere, so he would at least have an excuse to yell on her.

Maxim, being the smug snake he is, decided to simply bribe Semyon -- by filling his jar with beer in exchange for being freed from work. And he promised even more if Semyon would cease yelling and insulting him. Meanwhile, Gleb started abusing Alexei on the top of his skills... which resulted in Lyosha snapping and warning what if he continues, Alexei would break his nose. Gleb decided what he rather wouldn't find out wether it was an idle threat.

Phil finally found an excuse to yell on Sophia (over completely minor problem she noticed herself and warned him about), but when he realised she is on the brink of tears, he immediately apologises and assured her what there's nothing which they can't fix and he just overreacted. Meanwhile, Maxim managed to came along with Lobanov's colleagues (and his boss Gennadiy, who actually ordered Semyon to go buy new beer, while Max remained playing card games with his new friends).

Friends realised what something goes wrong with their task, and what they ''all'' are on the brink of failure. And then Phil suggested to just switch interns. Semyon agreed and suggested what he would take Alexei, Phil would take Maxim and Gleb would take Sophia.

Phil seemingly dealt with his problem, since it's much easier to yell on someone like Maxim, whom he dislikes anyway -- only for Max to use another scheme to receive Kupitman on his side and ensure what Phil can't force him to work without disturbing Kupitman's sleep (all but ensuring Kupitman's wrath). Gleb continued acting like a jerk to his subordinates, this time Sophia, but she interpreted it as his petty revenge for refusing his advances, and even agreed to "do it" quickly, so he may leave her alone at once -- only for him to immediately rush out when he realised what she tries to do when he sees her naked. And Semyon tried to show Alexei who is boss here, only to realise what he doesn't know what to do with Lyosha's patient himself, and thus, can't check wether Lyosha actually succeeds with his task or not, unless he reads about it -- which Alexei ultimately realised himself and stopped taking him seriously.

Gleb suggested to change interns ''again''. Phil took Alexei, and straight away warned him what he wants only one thing: what Alexei would do exactly what asked, quietly and without screwups... only for Alexei to immediately dropping all folders from the table, at which point Phil genuinely snapped. Semyon wanted simply dropping all work on intern so he may finally rest, only to find Sophia in tears: she think what Gleb tricked her into doing all this, only to then reject her, in order to humiliate her, and likely now brags about his "victory" to everyone else. And Gleb tried to order Max around, only for Max to correctly guess what Gleb has no real authority and no way to enforce his orders without Bykov's help (which is exactly against the rules); he was right, because when Gleb tried to ask Bykov to give Maxim night shift, Bykov immediately disqualified him.

So, Gleb just failed. But what about other two? Unfortunately for Phil, he also failed, because Alexei still can't stop laughing over Phil's anger which he considers "funny". And then Bykov noticed crying Sophia. While he stated to Gleb and Phil what Semyon seems to be a "winner", when they leaved, he actually said to Semyon everything he thinks about him: "jar full of tears" was ''metaphor'', you idiot! Semyon took the blame for Gleb so Bykov wouldn't learn the ''real'' reason for Sophia's tears, but this resulted in Bykov asking Gennadiy to punish Semyon with night shift. Since Phil received one from Kupitman, and Gleb -- from Bykov, they have only one thing left to do -- drink together; they have emply jars which fits perfectly to smuggle some beer.

Friends realised what realises that something goes wrong with their task, and what that they ''all'' are on the brink of failure. And then Phil suggested suggests to just switch interns. Semyon agreed agrees and suggested what suggests that he would take Alexei, Phil would take Maxim and Gleb would take Sophia.

Sophia. Phil seemingly dealt with his problem, since feels that it's much easier to yell on someone like Maxim, Max, whom he dislikes anyway -- only for Max to use another scheme to receive dislikes, but Maxim receives Kupitman on his side through another scheme (Kupitman's suffering from hangover, and ensure what Phil can't force wants to not be disturbed); Phil's attempt to deal with him only leads to work without disturbing Kupitman's sleep (all but ensuring Kupitman's wrath). Kupitman punishing him for noises which Max made. Gleb continued acting like a jerk tries to his subordinates, this time abuse Sophia, but she interpreted interprets it as his a petty revenge for her refusing his advances, and even agreed agrees to "do it" quickly, so quickly if it means that he may would leave her alone at once -- only for him to immediately rush out when once he realised realises what she tries she's trying to do when he sees her naked. And Semyon tried tries to show Alexei who is who's boss here, only to realise what but realises that he doesn't know what to do with Lyosha's his patient himself, and thus, can't check wether has to read the medical literature to even be able to order him around properly -- at which Lyosha actually succeeds with his task or not, unless he reads about it -- busts him and suggests to just give the books to him, at which Alexei ultimately realised himself and stopped point he stops taking him Lobanov seriously.

Gleb suggested to change interns ''again''. Phil took takes Alexei, and straight away warned warns him what that he wants only one thing: what that Alexei would do exactly what asked, quietly and without screwups... only for Alexei to immediately dropping drop all the folders from the a table, at which point Phil genuinely snapped. snaps at him -- which Lyosha finds ''funny''. Semyon wanted wants simply dropping all work on intern so he may finally rest, only to find Sophia in tears: she think what that Gleb tricked her into doing all this, offering herself to him, only to then reject her, in order to humiliate her, and likely now brags about his "victory" to everyone else. And Gleb tried tries to order Max around, only for Max to correctly guess what that Gleb has no real authority and no way to enforce his orders without Bykov's help (which is exactly against the rules); he was he's right, because when Gleb tried tries to ask Bykov to give Maxim a night shift, Bykov immediately disqualified him.

So, Gleb just failed. But what about other two? Unfortunately for Phil, he also failed,
disqualifies him -- and gives him a night shift.

Phil and Semyon fairs no better. Phil fails,
because by the end of the day, Alexei still ''still'' can't stop laughing over Phil's anger which he considers "funny". And then laughing. As for Lobanov, when Bykov noticed crying Sophia. While sees Sophia crying, he stated to Gleb and Phil what tells that Semyon seems to be is a "winner", but when they leaved, Phil and Gleb leaves, he actually said to Semyon everything he thinks about him: "jar gets angry at Lobanov: "the jar full of tears" was ''metaphor'', you idiot! a ''metaphor''! Semyon took takes the blame for Gleb so Bykov wouldn't learn (who was the ''real'' reason for actual cause of Sophia's tears, but this resulted in crying), as otherwise Bykov asking would learn what has happened between her and Gleb, but as result he gains a night shift when Bykov asks Gennadiy to punish Semyon with him. AS the three friends are on the night shift. Since Phil received one from Kupitman, and Gleb -- from Bykov, they have shift now, the only one thing left they can do is to do -- drink together; for that, they have emply three jars which fits perfectly to smuggle some beer.beer in them.

*** Semyon tried to show Alexei who is boss here (after which Lyosha finally realised what they simply trying to copy Bykov), only for Alexei to point out what after chewing them out for their failures, Bykov actually explains ''what'' they were supposed to do instead -- and Lobanov realised he [[BookDumb just doesn't know himself what to do with Alexei's patient]], forcing him to sit and reading medical literature. Then it turned up what Alexei is unaware about treatment, either, forcing Semyon to read about it, too. Ultimately, Semyon was just busted with the book, and Alexei asked wether he may simply take it himself and cut them all some time.
** Then they changed interns again, this time planning to simply finishing this day and forgetting about it; it failed, too:
*** Phil warned Alexei upfront what he wants only one thing: him doing exactly what Phil asks, without objections and screwups. Alexei immediately dropped all folders from the table, leading to Phil snapping at him genuinely. Lyosha was unimpressed by his anger, actually considering it to be more "funny" than scary. Naturally, Bykov considered it to be a failure.
*** Semyon wanted some rest after doing so much work today, only to find Sophia crying. Why? Because she was traumatised by what happened with Gleb earlier, and thinks he did this to humiliate her. While Semyon took the credit for it, Bykov reacted [[EveryoneHasStandards very badly]] and not only not accepted it as "win", but actually punished Semyon (through Gennadiy) for being ''too nasty''.
*** Gleb tried to order Max around, which he completely ignored, even after being threatened with night shift -- which Gleb promptly upped to two shifts. When reminded what only Bykov can appoint them on night shifts and sarcastically asked to just appoint seven shifts right away, Gleb tried to ask Bykov wether he may punish Maxim -- and Bykov immediately stated what Gleb failed the challenge: they were supposed to deal with problems ''without'' Bykov.
* EveryoneHasStandards: While Bykov named Semyon "a winner" for driving Sophia to tears (in fact, Semyon is completely unrelated to Sophia's condition; it was Gleb's fault) when talked with Gleb and Phil, when they leaved, he immediately called Semyon a moron for interpreting his metaphor about "jar of teas" literally, and didn't even try to hide his disgust. He actually compared him to nazi for sheer cruelty, and asked Gennadiy to punish Semyon with night shift. While not directly stated, it's fairly obvious what Bykov does not considers Semyon really "winning" his challenge.
* ItOnlyWorksOnce: Kupitman sleeps after previous ([[TheAlcoholic alcohol-filled]]) night, and can't tolerate any loud noises. Max exploited it by breaking glass jar and then volunteering to "guard" Kupitman's rest -- which also means he can slack on whatever Phil wants from him. Phil tried to use the same trick against him, but Maxim managed to run away at last moment, while Phil didn't.
* KarmaHoudini: Maxim managed to outsmart Phil, Semyon and Gleb, and avoid doing any work under them -- while causing them lots of troubles.
* NiceGuy: Phil, to his detriment:
** Phil is too nice to copy Bykov's [[DrillSergeantNasty signature commanding style]], so when he tried to threaten Sophia with 'horrible punishment" he would inflict on her in case she would fail him, he immediately lost whatever impact he could have by adding (in much calmer voice) what he would only do this "if she deserves it". She was not even surprised, immediately realising what (and why) he tries to achieve.
** When Phil tried to act genuinely harsh to Alexei, Lyosha actually considered him more funny than scary, stating what his wrath is not "genuine" -- to the point he actually started laughing over it.
* RantInducingSlight: Phil spent whole day unsuccessfully trying to show interns under him his wrath. By the point he received Alexei, he already gave up, and wanted only to quietly finishing his working day... only for Alexei to drop folders from the table, at which point Alexei genuinely snapped. Lyosha actually considered it to be rather funny, since even while angry, Phil is [[NiceGuy not eveil enough to act like bad boss]].
* SophisticatedAsHell: Bykov tasked his ex-interns to act in Bykov-like manner to Bykov's current interns. Closest they could think of is copying Bykov's unique torrent of complicated insults (which, as always, contains combos of medical terms and low-language insults). Gleb somewhat succeed, [[TheDitz Semyon... not so much]].
* TemptingFate: When Sophia thanked Semyon for [[TakingTheHeat taking the blame for Gleb's actions, so Bykov wouldn't learn something he shouldn't know]], Semyon assured her what nothing would happen, since Bykov is no longer his boss. Cue to Gennadiy, Semyon's current boss and Bykov's friend, coming in and announcing what Semyon would stay on night shift. Why? He doesn't know, but Bykov asked for it, and for him, that's enough.
