He is, however, known to have purchased a ring from a jeweller's in Paris on the afternoon of the crash, and a ring was later recovered from his room at the Ritz -- leading to the logical assumption that if he had proposed (and it's a big 'if'), she refused.

* FourthDateMarriage: Averted; pressured by his father to propose to Diana, he tries to do so but she cuts him off, stating that neither of them is ready for marriage -- she's still dealing with the after-effects of hers, and he's ''only just'' ended an engagement to another woman.

Sensing that Dodi is wavering over getting Diana to marry him, he promises to make Dodi an equal partner in all of his business interests if he can get her to say yes. This also ensures that she spends more time with Dodi when she just wants to go back to London.
