Puss in Boots finds himself in the Thieves Market, a market run and populated by ruthless thieves, and a female cat who seems extremely out of place. Deciding she cannot survive on her own, he decides to follow her and keep her safe. He follows her all the way to what turns out to be the Hidden City of San Lorenzo. The girl, named Dulcinea, chastises Puss for following her, but shows him around the town anyway. While most of the citizens are naturally scared of the first outsider the town has had in years, Dulcinea notes that the spell protecting the town only lets in good people, and uses this as a reason to trust him completely, even showing him the treasure room of San Lorenzo and explaining how the great mage Sino founded the city as a haven for orphans around the world, and gathered treasures and magical items from around the world as well to power a magical barrier that hides the city and keeps bad people out. She also mentions that the spell would be broken if even a single coin is taken out of the treasury.
