** When Steven sees inside Yellow Diamond's mind, her thoughts are noticeably not of satisfaction of finally getting the chance to poof and shatter the Crystal Gems for destroying Pink, but are instead calm reproach at her own failure of allowing those circumstances to happen, making it clear she finds no more closure in the fight than Blue.

* CurbStompBattle: It's clear that if there had been a full-on fight, this would have happened. While The Cluster is able to overpower Yellow Diamond's ship, all the combined efforts of the Crystal Gems can manage is knocking Blue Diamond to her knees. When Yellow Diamond (who, unlike Blue, is more angry and guilty than sad about Pink's death) enters the battlefield, she poofs Peridot within seconds, then Lapis, and isn't seriously threatened by anything the other Gems try.

* VengeanceFeelsEmpty:

* CoverBlowingSuperpower: During his OutOfBodyExperience, Steven creates a powerful aura that is unique to Pink Diamond. This is how Yellow and Blue realize that he’s telling the truth about Pink Diamond being (technically) alive.

** In an attempt to stop the fighting, Steven desperately attempts to convince Yellow and Blue Diamond that he is actually Pink, and he finally succeeds in the end in his OutOfBodyExperience.

JustForFun/TheOneWith the wedding that gets crashed big-time.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: The Diamonds finally get to show off their power, and it takes ''everyone'' — including Lapis — attacking Blue at once just to bring her to a ''knee''. Once Yellow Diamond joins the fight, the Crystal Gems are hopelessly outclassed and the only hope is for Steven to talk them down.

* OffModel: During the ceremony, [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/steven-universe/images/a/ab/Reunited_%28188%29.png Pumpkin is shown with hollowed-out eyes]] instead of pumpkin seeds for eyes.

* TooDumbToLive: Ronaldo had previously been told that Gem missions are too dangerous for an untrained human. What happens when the Cluster bursts? He prepares to go fight it. Fortunately, he's stopped in time.

* WorldBuilding: Steven casually mentions that Beach City is in the [[FictionalProvince fictional American state]] of "Delmarva"[[note]]In real life, [[AluminiumChristmasTrees Delmarva does exist]], but solely as a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delmarva_Peninsula physical feature]][[/note]].

* AdultFear: Yellow Diamond nearly squashing Steven is this for ''everyone''... especially ''Yellow herself'' a few moments later when Steven finally shows her his true nature and she realizes she nearly lost Pink Diamond again, and this time it'd be no one's fault but her own.

* ExtyYearsFromNow: Back in [[Recap/StevenUniverseS2E25TheAnswer "The Answer"]] (set in summer), Garnet said she was first formed 5750 years ago. In this episode (set the following spring), Ruby says they've been together for just as many years, and Sapphire adds "and 8 months". Apparently Garnet really meant ''exactly'' 5750 years.

* EmotionBomb: While Blue Diamond's ability to project her grief onto others has been established, here she uses it as a StatusEffect, overwhelming every Gem on the beach with sadness and destabilizing Alexandrite in the process. The only ones able to withstand its effects are Connie, whose lack of a gem means it doesn't affect her, Garnet, whose combined willpower gives her the resolve to distract Blue long enough for Lapis to drop the barn on her, and Lapis, whose prior traumatic experiences allow her to [[NoSell just shrug it off]].

* BullyingADragon: Peridot is so self-assured in herself that she tries to walk up to Yellow Diamond and ''insult'' her until she leaves, because she thinks that's what happened [[Recap/StevenUniverseS2E28MessageReceived last time]]. Yellow glances down at her, responds to Peridot's question if she remembers her with "[[ButForMeItWasTuesday No]]", and then [[RealityEnsues zaps her with her Gem-destabilizing lightning]].

* RealityEnsues:
** Trauma doesn't just go away because of one happy event. The Gems are feeling the aftermath of the Pink Diamond bombshell and Lapis leaving.
** An untrained, normal human going up against an unfathomable disaster is borderline TooDumbToLive. When Ronaldo dons his Gemsona armor and prepares to join the fight, he's tackled and forced to go to the evacuation shelter.
** The Cluster was scheduled to emerge months ago. After such a long delay, the Diamonds have apparently decided they're done with waiting; they travel to Earth themselves, and forcibly try to make the Cluster emerge.
** Making the Cluster from shattered Crystal Gems makes sense as a punishment tactic, and may have worked as a superweapon had its components remained scattered individual pieces. However, after being convinced to form a HiveMind by Steven and thus capable of cognitive thought, the Cluster's first reaction to waking up and seeing the Diamonds there is to punch Yellow's ship across Beach City's bay.
** Steven attempts to reason with the Diamonds with the truth of Pink Diamond. They're not exactly rational, since they're still grieving and still think Steven is Pink's murderer. Hence, their response is to lash out at him.
** Connie and Lion might be immune to Blue Diamond's EmotionBomb, but Connie's still a young girl who barely comes up to Blue's ''ankle'' with a sword that might as well be a toothpick and Lion is about the size of a kitten compared to Blue. In a physical match-up, they're hopelessly outclassed, and Blue easily takes them out while shattering Rose's sword into pieces between her fingers.
** Rose's sword is an extremely powerful weapon and, as shown in the past, ''capable'' of poofing a Diamond (something that is ''incredibly'' difficult to do). However, Pink threw her fight with Pearl to fake her death, while Blue is actively fighting back. As a result, the sword doesn't get a chance to repeat history.
** When the team's best efforts only add up to slightly displaced hair against the weaker Diamond, fighting ''two'' Diamonds at once, including the more martially inclined, is practically [[HopelessBossFight hopeless]] [[MassOhCrap and they know it]].

* WorldOfCardboardSpeech: Lapis gets what's probably the shortest example to date.

* {{Mondegreen}}: When Steven starts getting through to the Diamonds with his psychic communication, Yellow shouts "Show yourself, foe!" Her enunciation makes it sounds like he's calling Steven a [[SophisticatedAsHell hoe]].

* FlowerInHerHair:
** Ruby and Sapphire are both wearing blue flowers in their hair as part of their wedding outfits. As a result, Garnet has them when they fuse into her.
** Amethyst also has a flower in her hair earlier on.

* TakeThat: In the context that the episode was seen as groundbreaking for its LGBT kiss and wedding, both firsts for children's TV, Amethyst's wry comment that roses might be seen as "controversial", while having in-universe meaning, also does double duty as commentary on the episode as a whole.
** Specifically, some combination of BitingTheHandHumor (network execs/censors) and TakeThatCritics.

* WeddingDay: The entire episode takes place on the day of Ruby and Sapphire's wedding.

* TrashTheSet: Both the barn (and most of the surrounding area where it once stood when the Cluster awakens) and most of the house are demolished in the fight. Bismuth says she can fix the house at least.

* AmbiguouslyJewish: The wedding is held under a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuppah chuppah]]. At this point, Steven, Greg, and even Greg's cousin Andy have all had their turns to be ambiguously Jewish, but this is a dead giveaway. However, it's only ever referred to as a canopy and its presence is the wedding's only bit of Jewish imagery, meaning that Judaism, at least as we know it, may not actually exist in-universe.

** Connie sports a similar, if somewhat plainer one (Peridot's has ribbon ties at the shoulders and a ruffled hem) in blue.

** Bismuth — who is wearing a suit of armor with retractable spikes — is struggling to stop herself from crying from Ruby and Sapphire's vows.
