Mr. Krabs declares the Krusty Krab open 24 hours a day, much to Squidward's chagrin and [=SpongeBob's=] delight. When it's revealed [=SpongeBob=] isn't as thrilled as he made himself out to be when it comes to the darkness outside, Squidward takes the opportunity to tell him a ghost story in order to shut him up, but things take a turn for the worse when things from Squidward's story starts coming true...

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: If [=SpongeBob=], Squidward, and the job seeker's reactions are anything to go by, Graf Orlok AKA Nosferatu is shown here to be a harmless, good-natured prankster instead of the feral, sadistic monster he was in [[Film/{{Nosferatu}} his debut movie]].

* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Nosferatu is not shown to need an air helmet or any other kind of breathing apparatus. Of course, he's presumably undead, and therefore might not need to breathe at all.

* GainaxEnding: The one responsible for the flickering lights? Just that old prankster Film/{{Nosferatu}} (aka Count Orlok).

* MeanBoss: Mr. Krabs for making his employees work 24/7 and not paying them overtime. He also springs the 24 hour shift on his employees at what was until moments beforehand closing time and forces them to stay to work their new shift. However, he doesn't work the night like his employees, gloating that he has a life outside of work.

* RedEyesTakeWarning: The Slasher has glowing red eyes, which turn out to be the nostrils of the goofy looking fry cook.

* BadBoss: Mr. Krabs springs the 24 hour shift on his employees at what was until moments beforehand closing time and forces them to stay to work their new shift. However, he doesn't work the night like his employees, gloating that he has a life outside of work.

* MeanBoss: Mr. Krabs for making his employees work 24/7 and not paying them overtime.

* ElectromagneticGhosts: One of the signs that the Hash-Slinging Slasher is coming is that the lights will flicker on and off.

* ExplainExplainOhCrap: It doesn't dawn on [=SpongeBob=] that Squidward isn't pretending to be the Hash Slinging Slasher until the latter points out to him that they can't be at two places at once. ''Then'', he freaks out.

First when he hears [=SpongeBob=] walking on the ceiling with plunger heads and can't find the source of the noise (until [=SpongeBob=] reveals himself) and second when he realizes that it's not [=SpongeBob=] causing the lights to flicker.
