* FiveSecondForeshadowing: When Stan is threatening to cut off his hand, at first, we can see a bit of his arm. Later in the scene, only his mitten and sleeve are visible, indicating that he pulled his hand back into his shirt and wasn't actually going to cut it off; as he reveals a few seconds later.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Even the boys know how ridiculously volatile and high-tempered, not to mention relatively dense-minded, Butters' parents are. So it proves as a shock ''even to Stan'' when Cartman's poop-smearing-on-walls plan ''actually succeeds'' in giving them a MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment and realizing what they did was too far.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: The punchline to the "sodomized...in the ass!" bit is obviously the redundancy of it, but many anti-sodomy laws do consider a wide range of sex acts to also count as sodomy.

* InstantlyProvenWrong: After a failed attempt to get his parents to confess, Stan goes to Butters to run away from home since he believes their parents will never admit the deception. Only for Butters' parents to immediately confess after seeing their house smeared in poo and believing it to be their fault for deceiving their son. Naturally Stan is shocked at Cartman's success.

* CrazyEnoughToWork: Cartman's method for getting revenge on parents is to smear poop all over the walls. As Cartman runs out of Butter's house and his AbusiveParents come in, you fully expect them to start on him as they have many times before, grounding him and maybe even beating him. Instead they realise that because they didn't respect their son, he has lost respect for them and apologise to him for lying. They all hug in a room smeared with poop while Stan looks on slack-jawed at Cartman's success.
