* LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn: Depressing piano music is playing during the scene where Big Gay Al is looking through some photos of him as a Boy Scout. Once he closes the drawer he put his Boy Scout uniform in, the scene changes to a literal piano being played by pianist Marc Shaiman. Al eventually tells him to stop and asks him to play a very upbeat arrangement of the Too Fat Polka.

* OutOfFocus: Kyle doesn't appear in this episode at all. Even his parents make a cameo later on.

* BrickJoke: One of the ''many'' that tried to kill Jimmy (who was wearing Kenny's signature parka) was a giant eagle. Near the end after winning the court case against the Mountain scouts, that same eagle swoops in and (seemingly) [[TheyKilledKennyAgain kills Kenny]].

* EvenEvilHasStandards: At the beginning of the episode when Stan makes a joke about Cartman not having a father which makes everyone laugh, Cartman expresses how fucked up that joke was. Keep in mind, if we’re going by production code number, "Scott Tenorman Must Die" came before this.

* SeriesContinuityError: Sheila and Gerald can be seen at the church during one scene, even though they're Jewish and have no reason to go there.

* ScoutOut: The Mountain Scouts are the Boy Scouts of America with the SerialNumbersFiledOff.

* ItsAllAboutMe: Gloria Allred turned the whole issue of Big Gay Al's into a publicity stunt to make herself look good.

* TheyKilledKennyAgain: He gets carried off by an eagle. Interestingly, he appears in the scout meeting at the end, making this a rare case where he has an UnexplainedRecovery within an episode. It is also possible that he survived the ordeal, since the eagle is never shown actually killing him.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite his flamboyant CampGay behavior, Big Gay Al is shown to be a terrific scoutmaster who commands HundredPercentAdorationRating from his troop.
* DudeNotFunny: Cartman calls everyone out for laughing at Stan’s joke.

* TheHorseshoeEffect: All the supporters of the trial wanted to take away the Boy Scouts Of America's right to refuse gay people into Boy Scouts, as Big Gay Al point out this is as bad as taking away someone's right to be gay.

* AbsenteeActor: Kyle, no doubt because he was already established to be in [[Recap/SouthParkS3E9Jewbilee a different scout group]].[[note]]Behind the scenes, Trey and Matt were considering killing off Kyle at the end of the season (because they believed he was too similar to Stan) and having Butters take his place. This episode was likely meant to test such a dynamic.[[/note]]

** In this episode, Timmy and Jimmy hate each other. However, by "Krazy Kripples", they're suddenly friends.
** Jimmy is also depicted as a BitchInSheepsClothing who uses his stand-up act to disguise his true {{Jerkass}} nature, with Timmy's getting him kicked out of the scouts for supposedly being gay getting depicted as LaserGuidedKarma. Future episodes would not only make Jimmy a far more sympathetic character, but would even have him eclipsing Timmy in the longer run.
