Pong Ping invites Rupert, Edward, and Bill (which includes Toby) to his house to show them a big surprise -- a couch his friend the Mandarin sent him from China. The couch will enable Pong Ping and his friends to attend the Mandarin’s dragon races because it grants everyone who sits on it one wish, flying to whoever, whatever, or wherever the person wishes. Unfortunately, everyone is told this fact ''after'' uttering something including the words "I wish," which leads to a lot of complications, such as Bill, Toby, and Edward being stranded in the mountainous Valley of Dragons in China, while Rupert and Pong Ping get stuck in a snowstorm while trying to find them.
