Penny's wires being a weakness spans multiple different episodes, and this isn't the first episode they're shown to be a weakness. Moved to her character sheet to cover all the examples of her wires being a weakness.

* LogicalWeakness: Penny has enormous strength and durability as a robot and her weapon, Floating Array, consists of a series of swords that are connected to her by wires, which she controls as if they're marionettes. This allows her to perform great feats of strength, such as attaching them to airships in Volume 1 to pull them out of the sky. Here, she lodges her swords in the side of a uniquely dangerous Megaliath in an attempt to pull the Grimm around. The Grimm merely glances her way and uses its own strength to dislodge the swords. Being attached to the swords, Penny's fate is the same and she is sent flying into the next street.

* MusicalNod: When Ruby concentrates to try use her Silver Eyes the music plays a few notes from Indomitable. Appropriately it's pretty hard to hear over the cacophony of the battle and stops when Ruby gives up.

* RebuiltPedestal: Penny was the Protector of Mantle until Watts and Tyrian framed her for murder. This turned most of the kingdom against Penny, with many people calling for her deactivation. After Robyn confirms to Mantle's populace that Ironwood is telling the truth about who the real villains are, Penny returns to protecting Mantle. When she takes down a Megaliath to save citizens who are trying to be evacuated, the people cheer her and once again refer to her as the "Protector of Mantle".

* LampshadeHanging: Watts acknowledges how cliche the line "I won't be going down without a fight" is even as he uses it when cornered by Ironwood.

* MaleGaze: While Cinder is talking to Neo, she pauses in front of the camera to look over her scroll. The camera's angle faces upwards at the underside of the scroll, focussing almost entirely on Cinder's thighs.
