Fury was last seen quaking in fear after Bones removed his backbone, since then he has been reduced to menial labor aboard the prison deck. After 'saving' Poisandra from the beast within Solitary, Sledge gives him another chance to find an Energem, and defeat the rangers.
Speaking of Energems, Prince Philip of Zandar has found one, hidden inside a Pachycephalosaurus fossil. Despite his mimicking of the ranger invocation, he cannot morph into one nor use any of its powers. He sets out for Amber Beach to find answers.
In Amber Beach meanwhile, Chase's little sister is in town, along with her troupe who are performing a Maori dance at the museum. While the two want to spend time together, Chase's ranger duties keep calling him away. As the rangers battle Fury and his Vivix, a robot arrives to help them out, only it just gets in the way and isn't nearly strong enough to take on one Vivix, let alone a group. As Fury retreats, the robot's controller is revealed to be Philip, who wishes to aid the rangers in their mission. While they appreciate the sentiment, a civilian with a robot warrior would just make their job harder to do. Hey, where is the robot...
Turns out the robot, G-BO was stolen by Vivix so that Wrench could repurpose it as a Ranger Destroyer. Wrench also upgraded its hardware and software to be stronger, faster and included a blaster for ranged attacks. Back on Earth, Philip is quizzing Koda on how he first bonded with his Energem, with Koda replying that it 'saw' his heart. Koda tells him the Energems are 'mystical' and that it chose him because it felt he was 'worthy'.
Apparently in Philips eyes, worthiness means philanthropy, and he uses his vast wealth and prestige to donate to various causes, the museum getting new fossil exhibits, the hospital getting brand new wheelchairs and wheelchair access, a new playground etc. Despite the volume of thank-you letters he receives, there simply is no reaction from the Energem.
He calls the rangers, telling them the truth, and resolves to hand the Energem to them; but at that exact moment, Fury and G-BO attack, knocking the Energem away. As the rangers fight Fury, Philip is ushered away by his bodyguards, when suddenly Chase's sister arrives, having followed him from the skatepark to give him a gift. As G-BO targets her to put the rangers in a bind, Philip risks his own life to save her. Dodging energy blasts and Vivix, he scoops her up and carries her back to his guards, who escort her back to the museum. This act of selfless altruism is what finally awakens the Energem, his willingness to risk his life to protect others is a respect and worth wealth alone cannot attain.
