Now YMMV.

* BrokenAesop: The lesson of the chapter is supposed to be not to judge any Pokémon by first appearances or just by what their Pokedex entry might say, since Flash took the time to bond with Shuckle and train with it to show just how powerful of a fighter it really was after it was dismissed as the worst Pokémon in the activity. But this message is ruined due to him and Flash still losing to Timber and Politoad, and then Celestia punishes Flash for staying out late without permission to train Shuckle by stripping his cabin of all but one point, making all his efforts throughout the chapter not only pointless but counterproductive, and turning his friends against him. The only person who shows Flash any respect for his efforts and thanks him for what he did for Shuckle is Gloriosa, but even then she doesn't do anything to reward him or argue in his favor against Celestia. So apparently the real moral to take from this is don't bother trying to prove a jerk wrong because you will just fail and be punished for your efforts.

* ButtMonkey: Flash is put through the ringer here. Shortly after arriving at camp, Twilight starts being much ruder to him than usual, he and Timber Spruce start clashing with each other due to Timber's disrespectful attitude towards Shuckle, the Pokémon Flash gets paired with for the first activity, and nobody supports Flash in his attempts to bond with Shuckle, with Sunset just teasing him over being jealous of Twilight bonding with Timber. After everything he goes through, he and Shuckle still end up losing their battle against Timber, with Shuckle crashing into Flash as it loses, and as if to further [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown kick him while he's down]], Celestia has Flash's cabin lose all but one point due to Flash staying up all night without permission to train Shuckle, earning him the ire of his friends.

* NoSympathy: Absolutely nobody is supportive of Flash for nearly the entire chapter. After he puts in so much effort with Shuckle, getting it to put up an amazing fight against Politoad but still loses, Celestia awards him and his cabin with one point for his efforts, only to immediately take away all other points their cabin earned due to staying up late. The only character that ''isn't'' disrespectful to him is Gloriosa, who sincerely thanks him for everything he did for Shuckle and being its friend.

Unfortunately, Flash's stay at camp is off to an instant bad start.

Added DiffLines:

* DoubleKnockout: During the first camp activity, Twilight and Fluttershy battle with the Kirlia and Luxray they were respectively assigned and the battle results in a draw with both their cabins receving one point as a result. This is the only battle in the activity to end in a tie.

Added DiffLines:

* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Flash stays up all night earning Shuckle's trust and friendship and training it to get stronger. Despite all his efforts though they both still lose their battle and Celestia ''punishes'' him for his efforts by taking away all but one point from his cabin.

Added DiffLines:

* DownerEnding: After all the effort Flash put into bonding with Shuckle and training it to help it get stronger, they still lose to Timber and Politoad, and Flash has nothing to show for his efforts since his cabin was stripped of all but one point. Safe to say, his week at camp is not off to a good start.

Added DiffLines:

* TournamentArc: This is the start of the Camp Everfree arc, which doubles as a contest for the campers all week. During the activities the campers have the chance to earn points for their cabin, and at the end of the week whichever cabin has the most points wins and everyone in that cabin gets their picture hung in the camp's hall of fame.

Added DiffLines:

* AesopAmnesia: Twilight forgets everything she learned while traveling with Flash and [[TookALevelInJerkass reverts to her old way of thinking]] when she sides with Timber and says that his insults about Shuckle were just facts from the Pokedex, and that's why Flash can't bond with it or make it stronger.

Added DiffLines:

* JerkassBall: Celestia grabs it at the end of the chapter, when she has Flash's cabin stripped of all but one pity point due to him staying out all night to train with Shuckle. While she says [[JerkassHasAPoint he can't stay out without permission]], it comes off as a very cruel and tactless act since it happens immediately after his loss to Timber and earns him the ire of his friends for his efforts. It also is a stark contrast from Gloriosa Daisy, the owner of the camp, who [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure sincerely thanks Flash for all his efforts in befriending Shuckle]].

* AllForNothing: Flash stays up all night bonding with Shuckle and training him for the battle with Timber. Despite all his efforts though, they still lose, and Celestia strips his cabin of all but one pity point for staying out without permission, rendering his efforts moot and counterproductive.
* TheBadGuyWins: Timber Spruce and Politoad defeat Flash and Shuckle despite all of Flash's efforts to prove him wrong about Shuckle. To twist the knife, Celestia punishes Flash for his efforts by taking away all but one point from his cabin.
