!!Tropes:
* DeathCourse: The first test of the Lavarynth is a flight across a lava floor with lava geysers and swinging blades on the walls and ceilings.
* FaceYourFears: The second test has scary shadows of dragons which menace the participants. Misty, having lived under a bully most of her life, recognizes the trick and stands up to them, passing the test.
* LightAndMirrorsPuzzle: The final test requires casting a shadow on the wall using a ray of light of light on the ceiling, then matching it to an image of a roaring dragon on the wall. Easy enough for a dragon, but requires some creative acrobatics from the ponies to match the outline with their bodies, wings, and horns.
* NotHyperbole: The dragons requested that the ponies dress in sparkles, which Pipp assumed to mean formal wear. It turns out they literally meant sparkly clothing, as it's required as part of the test. Fortunately, Pipp's outfit happens to cover both bases.
* TrapDoor: The ponies are quite literally dropped into the lavarynth by a trap door that appears beneath them.
