Aesop now a disambiguation. BA now YMMV so intentional/played with examples don't count.

* AnAesop:
** If you're a parent/parental figure/guardian, you can't protect your charge forever. As hard as it is, you can't talk them out of doing everything they want to do, even if it's clearly a bad idea. You have to let your charge make their own decisions, and that includes letting them make their own mistakes.
---> '''Twilight:''' You can't control her actions, only yours. Teach her what's safe and what isn't, like a good role model and hopefully she'll make the right decisions.
** Just because someone may seem cool and awesome doesn't mean they are necessarily good people who will have your well-being at heart.

* BrokenAesop: Reconstructed. Rainbow Dash learns to allow Scootaloo to make her own choices as well as her own mistakes. ''However'', if Rainbow Dash hadn't intervened when Scootaloo pulled that dangerous stunt, it's very unlikely that she have walked away from ''this'' mistake to learn from it. This is somewhat lampshaded and justified by Rainbow Dash, as she states:
-->'''Rainbow Dash:''' I know I was supposed to let you make your own decisions, but that doesn't mean I can't swoop in and save you from time to time.

* AesopAmnesia: A slight variation: Back in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E5FlightToTheFinish Flight to the Finish]]", Rainbow Dash helped Scootaloo learn that even if she can't fly, she's still special in other ways. Here, Scootaloo takes interest in something that would represent a great use of said "other ways" (specifically, her signature scooter skills), and Rainbow's first reaction is to get up in arms over Scootaloo idolizing someone other than herself. She even implied that she was expecting Scootaloo to follow her into the Wonderbolts, despite there being no real chance of that actually happening.

** Near the end of Spitfire's motivational speech, she picks up Scootaloo while hovering a bit of the ground, trying to shake sense into the filly. When she's done, she lets go of Scootaloo, who between being shocked by the speech and her inability to fly, nearly falls to the ground, but Rainbow Dash rushes in to catch her.

Removed Justifying Edit. There is no evidence the seasons are not in chronological order.

* SeriesContinuityError: Scootaloo acts like she's never heard of Lightning Dust or her rivalry with Rainbow Dash. However, in the season 7 episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS7E7ParentalGlideance Parental Glideance]]," she told Rainbow's parents about Lightning Dust, and even had Lightning Dust's picture in her report book on Rainbow Dash. Though you could make the argument that chronologically, the events of this episode happen before that episode.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After Scootaloo lets lose at Rainbow and tells her that, by her own definition of what makes a pony worthwhile, she can't ever be like her because she can't fly, Rainbow is left with a stricken look on her face clearly having never thought about how much her words had hurt Scootaloo. She then decides to let Scoot make her own choices and leaves the Washout's training practice despondent.

* YankTheDogsChain: After years of struggling with a DreamCrushingHandicap, Scootaloo is finally presented with what looks to be a respectable alternative to the Wonderbolts -- a career opportunity that would appeal to her thrill-seeking nature and make good use of her scooter skills, but not require flight. And then it turns out to be a deathtrap when Lightning Dust forces her into an insane stunt with absolutely zero concern for her safety.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Subverted. Despite Lightning's unpopularity at the academy and among the current Wonderbolts, she and her fellow Washouts have plenty of fans cheering for them during their show.

At the show, Dash finds the pegasi trio of Washouts do a number of death-defying stunts, far too dangerous than what the Wonderbolts would do, all which excite the crowd and Scootaloo even more. Scootaloo drags Dash to meet the Washouts after the show, where they meet Short Fuse and Rolling Thunder before meeting their leader: Lightning Dust.

* DreamCrushingHandicap: When her conflict with Rainbow Dash comes to a head, Scootaloo reveals that she had been losing interest in the Wonderbolts because there was no meaningful hope of her ever becoming one. Also, during a rant to Rainbow Dash, Scootaloo outright says that she can't fly, having apparently come to terms with it.

* JerkassBall: Scootaloo and Rainbow pass it between them for most of the episode. When Scootaloo becomes a fan of the Washouts, she begins to ignore Rainbow and openly insults the Wonderbolts, Rainbow's dream job, when comparing them to the Washouts. She also completely goes against Rainbow when Rainbow tries to protect her from Lightning Dust, by joining the Washouts against her wishes. She only realizes her mistake when Lightning shows her true colors and forces her to do a dangerous stunt that almost gets her killed. Meanwhile, Rainbow practically admits that her objection to Scootaloo joining the Washouts had at least as much to do with not wanting Scootaloo to look up to anyone other than herself as it did with Scootaloo's safety.

The fact that it was Rainbow who helped Scootaloo cope with her condition back in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E5FlightToTheFinish Flight to the Finish]]" makes her look even worse there.
