** Rarity's upgrade to the mariachi band for the filly's party is a string trio that includes Octavia.

* WhosOnFirst: At first, Spike's conversations with Owlowiscious seem like a reprise of their first meeting but eventually he starts responding to what the owl is saying.

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: The puppeteer's voice is based on Creator/WCFields.

* [[EvilDetectingDog Evil Detecting Owl]]: Owlowiscious picks up that there's, something wrong with the book right off the bat. And of course tries to dissuade Spike from taking it.

* PoorCommunicationKills: Most of the problems would have been avoided if Spike had been honest with Rarity when she started going over the top with the magical changes. And before that, the whole issue could be avoided on the first place if the puppeteer had told Rarity the precise requirements for his theater.

* WhatTheHellHero: Owlowiscious toward Spike as Rarity begins running amok with the spell. And his insistence that everything going fine.

* EatTheEvidence: Spike does this when he finally get a hold of the book again hoping it'll break the spell. It doesn't.

* CreepyDoll: The puppeteer's puppets, or least when he manipulates them to shun Rarity.

* KarmaHoudini: Spike only receives a tame scolding for being the cause of the problems for this episode, and even then he brushes it off with his newly-learned Aesop. Possibly justified given the disproportionate retribution Spike has gotten in the past along with his normal butt monkey status.

** That's nothing. Rarity gets a magic tome that lets her '''create anything she can imagine from nothing and alter reality, effortlessly''', and she uses it to pretty up the town. Then again, she is probably not in control of her actions.

** BrokenAesop: Spike quickly turns this lesson on its head by his BrutalHonesty towards Twilight. What's more, [[KarmaHoudini neither Spike nor Rarity face the consequences of (fabulously) ruining Ponyville, not even taking the responsibility of cleaning up their mess.]]
*** Justified: We don't know whether they took responsibility for the mess (at the very least, Spike owned up to Twilight), but they didn't have the magic to undo it. That's why three princesses had to do it.

* FurryReminder: The brass instrument played by one of the Mariachi ponies is uncoiled so that the valves can be manipulated by the pony's hooves.
