\\
On the way to a new future on Alpha Centauri, the Robinsons are forced to evacuate their colony ship, the ''Resolute'', when an emergency strikes. Knocked off course, they crash-land on an unknown planet, then watch helplessly as their ship, the ''Jupiter 2'', sinks into a glacial lake. While attempting to retrieve a battery that will allow them to survive the harsh night, Judy is trapped beneath the ice. The family struggles to dig her out while their mother, Maureen, copes with a serious injury.\\
\\
Will leads his father, John, on an expedition to find magnesium that can be used to melt the ice, but falls into a pit and finds himself lost in a temperate forest. As the family tries to save Judy, he discovers a crashed alien spacecraft. Terrified by a glimpse of something that might be its crew, he climbs a tree, only to be trapped there by the crippled top half of the Robot. As a fire consumes the forest, he resigns himself to death, but saves the Robot by cutting it out of the tree. The Robot repairs itself and rescues Will in turn.\\
\\
Back at the ''Jupiter'', the rest of the family watches helplessly as Judy nears death, when the Robot appears with Will and melts the ice to free her. It then keeps them warm throughout the night.\\
\\
Flashing back to the ''Resolute'', we meet Don West and his partner Tam, technicians who decide to ScrewThisImOuttaHere and evacuate along with the colonists. They are joined by "Dr. Smith", or rather an impostor who stole the real Dr. Smith's coat, just after witnessing the Robot attacking the ship and killing its crew. The ''Jupiters'' abandon ship, only to be drawn along with the ''Resolute'' into a mysterious wormhole.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E2DiamondsInTheSky "Diamonds in the Sky"]]\\
\\
Don and "Dr. Smith" crash-land and must escape their ''Jupiter'' before the cockpit breaks off and falls into a gorge. Don's mechanical knowledge helps them in this endeavor. They discover Tam dead. Smith invokes Don's conscience twice: first when he rescues Debbie the Chicken, and second when he rescues Angela, another survivor who is severely injured and unconscious.\\
\\
Meanwhile, the Robinsons have gained access to their ship thanks to the Robot's help, who also helps them dry out the interior. They begin the work of repairing it and extracting it from the ice, while John, Maureen, Will, and the Robot mount an expedition to another crash site to look for survivors. Judy is experiencing traumatic flashbacks to her experience beneath the ice and thus much of the burden falls to Penny. She observes an oncoming, dangerous storm and resolves to rescue them using the ship's Chariot, an all-terrain vehicle.\\
\\
Maureen and John argue over who's in charge. Maureen asks Will to have the Robot lead them to its crashed ship. There, while playing catch with Will, the Robot accidentally reactivates the ship and its holographic star map. It also experiences flashes of its lost memory, which Will also sees: of it attacking the ''Resolute''. Horrified, he runs away, but is persuaded that the Robot is not evil when it displays its willingness to walk off a cliff at his command. As they start walking back to their own ship, the storm begins, but Penny shows up to rescue them.\\
\\
Don and Smith, with the unconscious Angela, also see the storm coming and take refuge beneath an overhang. Smith, who's been deceiving Don about her past, offers to go get help, leaving him with their last flare. As the family desperately races the storm, Will spots the flare in the distance and they change course to pick up the survivor... Smith, who lied and fled to save herself, leaving Don stranded. They make it back to their ''Jupiter'' barely in time as the storm closes in. Smith sees the Robot in Will's care and recognizes it for what it truly is.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E3Infestation "Infestation"]]\\
\\
The opening is a {{flashback}} to Dr. Smith's past, revealing her real name: June Harris. Her sister, an accomplished businesswoman, offered to leave all her possessions to June as she left for Alpha Centauri. June, a petty criminal and family BlackSheep, drugged her and stole her identity, leaving her behind instead. We also learn throughout the episode that "Dr. Smith" murdered a crewman aboard the ''Resolute'' who recognized her, and was about to receive summary justice from the ship's captain when it was attacked.\\
\\
Back in the present, while the storm rages outside, the Robinson family takes a much needed rest. John confronts Judy over her PTSD, offering help, but is rebuffed. Smith takes the opportunity to snoop on her rescuers, looking for ways to gain an advantage. Will has a nightmare about the Robot killing people. Something creepy is moving around outside the ship.\\
\\
Then the glacier, destabilized by Penny's rash action in the previous episode, starts to collapse. It's now or never: they have to blast their way free, but the ''Jupiter'''s engines have been contaminated by the storm. As they rush to clean out the parts, a new emergency arises: the ship's fuel level is dropping rapidly. Smith plots to save herself (again), but the Robot, sensing imminent danger, locks Will in the storage closet along with her. John investigates the basement and is attacked by giant eels, which are revealed to be the cause of the fuel loss.\\
\\
As Maureen races to repair the engines, John must go back into the basement to buy time. As the glacier continues to collapse, Penny is thrown into the water and Judy is trapped beneath a crate. Smith persuades Will to get the Robot to let her out, claiming it doesn't care about her. Instead of helping as promised, she straps into the ejection seat. Judy frees herself this time, overcoming her trauma. As Maureen struggles to put the last part back in place, Smith shows up, having changed her mind about escaping. The family crams into the cockpit, but the engines won't fire. Judy saves the day by dumping the remaining fuel supply, ejecting the eels that are blocking the fuel lines. The ship rockets free with barely enough fuel to land.\\
\\
Their communications restored, the family is overjoyed to receive messages from other ''Jupiters'' and from the ''Resolute'', demonstrating that they are no longer alone. John and Judy share a quiet bonding moment. In his cabin, the Robot offers Will a gun that it made on their [=3D printer=]. Horrified, Will asks it why, and the Robot indicates that it is for Will's protection... against itself. Will tells the Robot never to hurt anyone and hides the gun. Smith sees him do it.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E4TheRobinsonsWereHere "The Robinsons Were Here"]]\\
\\
John, Maureen, and Judy head out to meet another group of survivors from the ''Resolute'': the Watanabe family, who plotted the locations of a number of ''Jupiters'' before landing. It turns out that everybody's fuel got eaten, leaving them unable to launch back into space. The Watanabes also rescued Don and Angela (thanks to a tracker on Debbie the Chicken). Judy treats Angela's injuries and learns that the Robot is responsible for the crash and that it killed people. The parents take Don to the location of a crashed piece of the ''Resolute'' that they are hoping will contain communication gear that they can use to talk to the ship, since it can't seem to receive their transmissions.\\
\\
Meanwhile, Will is learning more about the Robot, which draws a mysterious symbol in the sand and identifies it as "Danger". Judy returns and confronts Will, whereupon he offers to take the Robot to a cave that he located nearby, where it can wait until he's had the chance to tell his father the truth and decide the Robot's fate. Penny goes with them; along the way they discover the planet's beauty along with more of its dangers. The Robot continues being useful, scaring off a wild animal and making a path over a gorge by knocking down a tree.\\
\\
The group also encounters another band of survivors, led by the colony representative, Victor Dhar, but hides from them to avoid revealing the Robot. Penny forms an instant attraction to Victor's son, Vijay, who accidentally discovers them. She steals a prized possession from him and blackmails him with it, telling him to keep the Robot a secret.\\
\\
Maureen, John, and Don find the wreckage, but not the parts they were hoping for, as Don is revealed to have been smuggling whiskey to the colony in the relevant crate. It ends up being a moot point, as they discover the ''Resolute'''s main communication dish on the ground with them. Their Chariot's battery is depleted, forcing them to spend the night. As John and Maureen discuss their relationship, an earthquake topples the dish, trapping them until Don can break them out. Maureen reveals that she found out about John's voluntary reenlistment, which is what caused her to believe he left their family and prompted their marital stress.\\
\\
The children and the Robot also end up sleeping away from the ship, in the cave that Will discovered. Penny is inspired to write "The Robinsons were here" on the wall, echoing primitive cave paintings, and the children sign it with their handprints. In the night, Judy sees the Robot do the same thing, and wonders whether she might have misjudged it. Everyone marvels at a spectacular nighttime display of phosphorescent insects. Smith, who has been following the children, observes from nearby.\\
\\
In the morning, Will sadly leaves the Robot in the cave, promising Judy to tell his father the truth soon. The kids return to the ''Jupiter'' at the same time as their parents, barely avoiding being caught. Smith, who stole the gun, approaches the Robot and tells it that Will will betray it, offering her own loyalty instead.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E5Transmission "Transmission"]]\\
\\
The surviving colonists are reassembled, although mourning the loss of so many of their number. Victor, the colony leader, has concocted a plan to communicate with the ''Resolute'': build a light tower that can shine a beam visible from orbit. Everyone pitches in on the project. Will is still agonizing over telling his father the truth, settling for an intermediate lie: that the Robot wandered off, prompting John to go searching. Meanwhile, Don meets Dr. Smith, and she lies about the reason for leaving him in order to allay his suspicions. Judy and Don share a private moment as she sets his nose, which she accidentally broke when he discovered her snooping around his whiskey stash.\\
\\
Maureen, being the scientist that she is, has been studying the planet's daylight cycle and noticed an anomaly: the sun is rising sooner than it should with each passing day. She takes the family Chariot on a mission: to get a more direct look at the situation by using a high-altitude balloon designed for stratospheric observations. Victor demands that she remain to help, but she defies him, telling him they aren't on Alpha Centauri yet.\\
\\
Everyone else is busy working on the light tower. Smith juggles her story between Judy and Don, hoping to set them against each other to keep suspicion off herself. Meanwhile, she worries that restored communications with the ''Resolute'' will unmask her anyway. Vijay is criticized by his father, prompting Penny to try to establish a rapport despite the secret hanging between them. Will and John dance around the issues separating them: John thinks Will resents him for leaving, but Will is actually scared to tell him about the Robot. Smith rats him out, prompting a tense confrontation.\\
\\
Maureen is nearly flung off of a cliff when her balloon is caught by winds, but manages to recover it and lauch successfully. Ascending into the sky, she activates her equipment and learns, to her utter dismay, that the orbital irregularity is caused by ''something else'' near the sun, something very massive that emits Hawking radiation. [[CurseCutShort "FU-!"]]\\
\\
Meanwhile, the light tower is turned on and it works. The colonists share a moment together as they watch the spectacle, even as the local moth-like insects are attracted to the light show. Smith, however, recognizes her chance, as she witnessed the moths being preyed upon by a massive beast earlier. She disables the security perimeter and the animals attack, tearing down the tower and threatening Penny. She then cajoles Will into summoning the Robot, which he reluctantly does. The Robot distracts the beasts, but is unwilling to fight until Will orders it to "be bad". Cue transformation into its ass-kicking form in full view of the colonists. Will calms it down afterwards, but the secret is out.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E6Eulogy "Eulogy"]]\\
\\
The colonists are picking up the pieces of the destroyed tower. Without fuel and without communications, they're stranded unless they can find another way off the planet. Maureen reveals to John that she discovered something truly terrifying in her balloon ride: the planet's sun is in a binary pair with a black hole, and this is responsible for the instability of its orbit. The planet will get dangerously close to the sun and render the biosphere uninhabitable in as little as a few weeks. They can't tell the other colonists lest they cause a panic. Penny overhears and is dismayed. Clinging to whatever hope she can, she resolves to take Vijay on a swimming date to the waterfall that they found when looking for Will's cave in "The Robinsons Were Here", throwing caution to the wind in hopes of a FirstKiss.\\
\\
John attends a meeting of the colonists at Victor's ''Jupiter 4'' to debate what to do about the Robot. Some want to destroy it, others worry that doing so will make it violent. Angela, now recovered enough to speak to the group, recounts the horror of her encounter, watching helplessly as it killed her husband. John argues that it deserves the benefit of the doubt, as whatever it may have been before, it saved his family's lives. Smith looks on, plotting. Maureen seeks out Hiroki Watanabe's counsel and finds out that he, too, has deduced that the planet's orbit is unstable due to the strange growth patterns of the plants and animals.\\
\\
John returns to Will with good news. The Robot can stay, but he must remain with it and report its location at all times. Will is elated, but confused when John takes him on a trip to a cliff and orders him to begin piling up rocks (without the Robot's help). John tells him that this is a cairn: each of the twenty-seven stones represents a colonist who died in the crash-landings. Will must learn to truly appreciate what his responsibility means. Meanwhile, Dr. Smith offers to "counsel" Angela, but rather than helping her, brings up her memories of the traumatic events in a way guaranteed to set her on a violent course. Angela has recovered the gun that Smith stole from under Will's bed, then deliberately planted for her to find. This won't end well.\\
\\
Don goes to Victor with a proposal: he knows where fuel can be found, but wants a promise of payment. Victor grudgingly agrees, and Don tells him about his own ''Jupiter'', which landed in a desert environment without the water that the eels need to live. A team of colonists, including Judy, set off to retrieve the fuel from the ship as it may be their last hope of leaving. On the way, Don teases Judy into loosening up a bit, and they discover a spectacular field of volcanic geysers. [[{{Foreshadowing}} Let's hope they don't have to return that way.]] They reach the ''Jupiter'', but discover that it's in a precarious position: removing the fuel will shift its weight and send it plummeting over the cliff. They anchor it with their Chariots, but Don has another plan: he wants to find out who Smith really is. He breaks into "her" cabin and learns the truth, just as the cliff gives way and the ship falls. It's a DisneyDeath, though: he's rescued and everyone shares a relieved laugh.\\
\\
Penny's date doesn't go as planned: rapid climate change has dried up the waterfall. In despair, she confides in Vijay that she did it because she is scared about the planet becoming uninhabitable. She entrusts him with the secret that she shouldn't have learned herself, but will this prove too much for him to hold onto? Nevertheless, they share a FirstKiss.\\
\\
Back at the ''Jupiter'', the family is playing Go Fish again, like in the opening, but the Robot is "participating". It may even have smiled? Smith sees Angela coming, so asks Will to invite his mother, who's outside, to play. Angela raises the gun. Will and Maureen hear shots fired. Will rushes in to find the robot, unharmed, in full combat mode. John steps between it and Angela and is smashed across the room for his trouble. Will's worst fears have come true.\\
\\
John will live, but Will has come to believe that the Robot is too dangerous. He leads it to the cliff where he built the cairn and tearfully orders it to walk off. It falls, destroyed. Will places a twenth-eighth stone atop the pile. Smith sees it all. Now she can take control of the Robot herself.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E7Pressurized "Pressurized"]]\\
\\
Judy and Don are with the team bringing the recovered fuel back to the colonists. Don shares his discovery about Dr. Smith's identity, to Judy's disbelief and dismay. She calls home to warn her mom, but Smith picks up the call and detects Judy's suspicion. Maureen and John are analyzing Angela's gun to figure out where it came from, and discover that their own printer made it. Will confesses that the Robot gave him the gun. To throw off the trail, Smith spins another story directing suspicion towards Victor.\\
\\
Maureen and John leave to confront Victor, asking Penny to look after Will and not sneak off. On their way to the ''Jupiter 4'', Maureen and John see a seismic rift tearing up the ground in front of them. They desperately reverse off the path, crashing into a tar pit, with their communications damaged.\\
\\
Judy's team has also run into a problem. Their path is blocked, forcing them to resort to a desperate crossing of the volcanic geyser field. They carefully time the trip to the intervals between eruptions, but along the way the tanker's coupling is damaged. Evan climbs out to repair it, and succeeds, but they are just barely too late. An explosion strikes the tanker, knocking it over and crushing Evan. Worse, the tanker is punctured and can't be lifted without spilling the fuel. Judy is forced into a terrible choice: she saves Evan, over Victor's objections.\\
\\
Dr. Smith tries to repair the robot, reasoning that if she can do so, it will obey her, just as it obeyed Will when he rescued it, but is unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Penny is trying to cheer up Will, even passing up an opportunity to "sneak out" with Vijay. She gives him a ride on the ''Jupiter'''s armature and helps him build a toy model of the Robot.\\
\\
John tries to rig a makeshift grappling hook to pull the Chariot out of the tar, but before that plan can bear fruit, it sinks beneath the surface. They're now truly trapped, and if Maureen can't rig a makeshift radio, only one of them can escape, using the single spacesuit. John confesses to Maureen that he regrets most of all not being there for his kids -- and her, and the two tearfully reconcile as they prepare for him to sacrifice himself so she can survive. At the last second, Maureen realizes that they can use the high-altitude balloon (from "Transmission") as an escape tunnel, by pressurizing it with helium. This desperate plan works, and they share a relieved embrace, amplified by their helium-pitched voices.\\
\\
Judy's team is returning in somber silence. Evan remains in critical condition and the fuel is almost gone; there's barely enough to launch a single ship. Then Evan dies, Judy's first experience of losing a patient. When they reach the ''Jupiter 4'', Vijay loses his composure and breaks Penny's confidence, revealing their true predicament on the planet. Victor decides to save his own family first and prepares to launch, abandoning everyone else. Meanwhile, Smith has discovered a crucial clue: the robot seems to respond to the sound generated by its own ship, recorded on Will's computer.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E8Trajectory "Trajectory"]]\\
\\
John's orienteering skills lead him and Maureen successfully to the Dhars' ''Jupiter'', just in time to see it powering up for liftoff. Maureen asks Victor how much fuel he has, and learns that it's not enough to get the fully-loaded craft to orbit. John leaps aboard to shut down the launch sequence, fighting off Beckert's attempt to stop him. Ashamed by his cowardice, but unwilling to admit wrongdoing, Victor asks if John is in charge of the colony now, but instead John insists on a general meeting.\\
\\
Maureen has a plan. They ''can'' lift off, but only by stripping down the ''Jupiter'' to the barest bones. No navigation, no computer control, no instrumentation, barely anything, like the most primitive launches of the old space program. They also need a pilot who can control the craft with support from mission control. Hiroki's wife is the logical choice as the lightest person there, and she agrees to go after a long debate.\\
\\
Now that the secret of their predicament is out in the open, Penny confronts Vijay about breaking her trust. He is unable to come up with a satisfactory answer and declares that the two are breaking up.\\
\\
Amid the preparatory work for the launch, Judy returns (from notifying Evan's family). She immediately goes to Maureen to let her know about Dr. Smith's lies. Not a person to be fooled twice, Maureen tricks her into the garage where she is locked in a closet. She's caught, finally.\\
\\
However, there's still a problem -- the ''Jupiter'' is still too heavy. They can remove the stabilizers, but that will subject the pilot to intense g-forces, enough to make them black out. Recovery time is critical, and Aiko Watanabe's scores are too low. But John's aren't. He's perfect. But the danger is incredible, and he can't do it without the family's input. Will in particular is terrified -- he's already lost his best friend and now might lose his father.\\
\\
In preparation, they test John's ability to recover and control the ship after blacking out, but he keeps failing to execute all the required maneuvers. Matters are made worse when the ''Resolute'' sends an ominous broadcast: they too have detected the black hole and have to leave in 24 hours. Then they realize that Don's engineering expertise is exactly what the mission needs, if he can be persuaded to go. Judy convinces him, and the tests are successful.\\
\\
As the launch nears, John and Don says their farewells, and Will is scared and desperate enough to do what he knows he shouldn't: listen to Dr. Smith, who offers him another way out. Maybe the Robot can fly the ship, and she has it. In a lapse of judgment worthy of any epic fail, Will lets her out.\\
\\
The launch is going well, almost too well. Don vents the engines and they are nearly out of the atmosphere, but run into turbulence. Cut to Will tied up in the closet and Smith sneaking up behind Maureen. She knocks Maureen unconscious just as a critical moment comes. Unable to deliver navigation instructions, John doesn't know which way to turn, and the radio cuts out. Judy and Penny, watching from the hillside, see the ''Jupiter'' explode.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E9Resurrection "Resurrection"]]\\
\\
The episode opens with a flashback to the "Christmas star", a meteorite impact three years before the main story that triggered a global climate catastrophe and prompted the colonization effort. Maureen observes that the behavior of the impactor is strange, as it didn't eject any debris, making additional meteorite impacts. Will uses his portable transmitter in an attempt to reach his father, who's returned to his military assignment. Cut to the present, with Penny and Judy watching as Will tries to contact John on that same transmitter, despite the near certainty that he and Don are dead.\\
\\
Maureen awakens slowly from the blow to the head, to find herself tied up by Dr. Smith. Smith had no idea she was sabotaging the launch (or so she claims); she just wanted Maureen to help her repair the Robot, so she can have leverage when they return to the ''Resolute''. Smith continues to attempt to win Maureen over to her point of view, unsuccessfully.\\
\\
Judy decides to head out and look for their mother, whom she reasons has been abducted by Dr. Smith. Will despondently retreats to his room, and begins destroying his possessions in a fit of rage, including a rock he gathered at the cave where the Robot was hidden. But something happens: it's not a rock, and it smells awful. Hiroki determines that it's actually petrified animal droppings. The ships have biomass converters that can make fuel from waste products. The colonists can't possibly excrete enough to refuel the ships in time, but what if animals have been doing it for years already? A mass expedition is mounted to the cave.\\
\\
The cave turns out to be a rich source of fuel, to be sure, but is also inhabited by large, carnivorous bats who can hear, but not see. Tension rises as the colonists try to mine as much as they can in total silence. Will is still trying to reach his father, and Victor offers him comfort, or tries to. He's not very good with people -- [[RunningGag who voted for him, exactly?]] But then, the radio beeps... inside the cave. John is alive, but now the bats are awake. In the ensuing panic, Penny, Vijay, Hiroki, and Angela are trapped inside. They laboriously crawl to the entrance, and Angela distracts a bat to save Penny's life, redeeming herself.\\
\\
Smith tries to reassemble the Robot with Maureen watching, but it still doesn't activate. Frustrated, Maureen suggests that it may have something to do with the interior of the alien ship. They board, but can't figure out how to activate it, and Smith is too wary to fall for Maureen's attempts to trick her. They do make a discovery, however, one that rocks the foundations of what they think they know.\\
\\
Maureen was part of the engineering program that designed the ''Resolute'' and the ''Jupiters'', but no known propulsion technology could move the ship fast enough. She was advised that a part of the plan was "beyond her clearance". Yet aboard the alien ship, they find something... an engine, a power source of some kind, that Smith also saw aboard the ''Resolute'' during her escape. The technology that powers the ''Resolute'' was stolen from an alien ship that crashed on Earth three years ago. No wonder the Robot attacked them: it wanted back what was stolen.\\
\\
Outside, Judy has found them, and enacts a daring plan to disable Smith long enough for her and Maureen to escape, using Debbie the Chicken as a decoy. But Smith inadvertently placed the Robot's arm in contact with the ship's hull, revitalizing it. It prevents Judy and Maureen from escaping. Dr. Smith controls it now.\\
\\

# [[Recap/LostInSpace2018S1E10DangerWillRobinson "Danger, Will Robinson"]]\\
\\
The Robot, now resurrected and under Dr. Smith's control, appears to be taking the engine from its ship. The star map activates and pans across to a view of the planet from space, revealing Don and John clinging to a piece of debris from the shattered ''Jupiter'', lamenting their plight as they slowly run out of air. John is in contact with Will via their transmitter and learns through Morse code that they've discovered fuel. "Fuel, they have fuel!" "Yeah, so we went up here for nothing." Irony.\\
\\
Will and Penny are preparing their own ''Jupiter'' for launch, having snuck out of Hiroki's ship. They are determined to wait for Judy and Maureen. They show up, finally, but with an unwelcome guest: Dr. Smith. Penny says it's four against one, but then the Robot steps out. Will is overjoyed at first, but his joy turns to shock when the Robot knocks him down. It's either forgotten him or resents him. But Maureen learns that John is alive, and insists on rescuing him, despite the risk of missing their rendezvous with the ''Resolute''. Smith reluctantly agrees.\\
\\
As the launch counts down, Will tries to get the Robot to remember their friendship, unsuccessfully. He begins to lose hope, but then the earth shakes again. A volcano erupts nearby, either another symptom of the planet's tectonic instability or one last attempt to keep them from leaving. They take off anyway, punching through the ash cloud and reaching orbit.\\
\\
Maureen starts a search program to find John but there's not enough fuel. Dr. Smith insists they abandon him. A contest of wills ensues that Maureen wins by diving the ''Jupiter'' towards the planet. She knows the Robot will try to protect Smith, which it does by forcing her into the ship's hub, its safest place. Maureen stabilizes their orbit and locks down the hub, trapping Smith inside, but she knows it won't last forever. She sends Penny and Judy to prepare the ship's harpoon (much to Penny's amusement) and keeps Will with her.\\
\\
Will's anguish comes to a head and he finally confronts his mother with the question he's always been afraid to ask: Did he fail the test to get in the colony program? He feels responsible for everything that's happened since they crashed. Maureen tells him the truth, and he tells her that he should never have come along. Despair looms.\\
\\
On the debris, Don is trying to rig the remaining electrical systems to emit a jet of hot gas, signaling their location, but his eye is injured by a flake of anti-fogging agent. John has to do the work under his guidance, but the task proves difficult. Don has to cry to restore his eyesight, and John finally manages to move him to tears by describing his love for his family, something Don's never experienced. They send out their flare, and Maureen sees them. The harpoon is ready and the distance is closing, but Smith's found out how to unlock the hub. Maureen and Will flee, but the hastily fired harpoon comes up short. Smith sends the Robot in pursuit of the family while she blames them for all her misfortunes.\\
\\
In the garage, Maureen shoves the children into the Chariot while she prepares a desperate plan, but Will remains outside. He confronts the Robot one last time, demanding it recognize him. It attacks him instead, just as Maureen slams it with the assembly armature, knocking it onto the ramp. She opens the ramp, dumping the ship's air into space along with the Robot. They're safe.\\
\\
But then an ominous droning starts. A second alien ship appears, the ramp is forced back open, and ''two'' robots climb aboard. They sent backup. Maureen is knocked out by the new robot, which blasts the Chariot to uncover the alien engine hidden beneath it. A ricochet damages Will's suit and injures him. The new robot is about to kill him when Will's Robot restores its memory and fights the other alien. A battle ensues in which both are knocked out of the ship.\\
\\
Maureen is injured and her helmet is cracked. The Chariot's seals are damaged and it's leaking air. The ramp won't close. Will, whose suit was fixed by the Robot, is the only one left who can climb outside and manually close the ramp. NowLetMeCarryYou, he says to his mother. He succeeds in closing the ramp, but when he tries to climb to the ''Jupiter'''s rear hatch, his injured arm betrays him and he loses his grip. It seems as if he's doomed, when John shows up to catch him.\\
\\
Back aboard, the family takes a moment to relax. They're together, but the ''Resolute'' is gone. Maureen realizes that Smith must have fired the harpoon again to rescue John and Don. "Why did you do that?" she asks the woman who is now imprisoned in the airlock. Smith doesn't have a good answer. And the family is stranded in orbit, with no good options... until the Resolute shows up. Victor waited for them.\\
\\
They barely have time to rejoice, though, before something weird happens. The alien engine, which had previously been providing them with artificial gravity, takes over the ship's controls, and its engines. It opens a wormhole and the ''Jupiter'' falls in, spilling them out in an unfamiliar system with a weird double-star. Will recognizes this... from the Robot's drawing in the sand, and the one word it offered by way of explanation: "Danger."

They laboriously crawl to the entrance, and Angela distracts a bat to save her life, redeeming herself.\\

Will's anguish comes to a head and he finally confronts his mother with the question he's always been afraid to ask: Did he fail the test to get in the colony program? He feels responsible for everything that's happened since they crashed. Maureen tells him the truth, and he tells her that he should never have come along. Despair looms.

Despair looms.

\\

The launch is going well, almost too well. Don vents the engines and they are nearly out of the atmosphere, but run into turbulence. Cut to Will locked in the closet and Smith sneaking up behind Maureen. She knocks Maureen unconscious just as a critical moment comes. Unable to deliver navigation instructions, John doesn't know which way to turn, and the radio cuts out. Judy and Penny, watching from the hillside, see the ''Jupiter'' explode.\\

Meanwhile, Smith has discovered a crucial clue: the robot seems to respond to the sound generated its own ship, recorded on Will's computer.\\
