The episode begins with Puss tricking Scruff by pretending to throw a ball. The Princess is at her window and the narrator notices she looks grumpy. The Princess responds, "No one to play with." Everyone is playing with everyone else-- the Admiral and Prime Minister are fishing, the General and Maid are playing hopscotch, the King and Queen are playing croquet, and the Gardener and Chef are playing catch with a cabbage. The Princess notes that everyone seems to have a someone special and she wants one too. The narrator defines "best friend", and the Princess agrees that she needs one.

The narrator suggests Gilbert but he obviously doesn't know any good secrets, and he already has Nora, a toy bunny. The Queen then receives a letter from the Princess's auntie saying that she's bringing the Princess's cousin to visit. The Princess doesn't know what a cousin is, so the Queen explains that it's the auntie's little boy. The Princess decides that he could be her best friend, so she gets some toys ready for the visitor and builds a fort for him. She even promises to share a secret (the location of baby rabbits) with him.

The aunt and cousin arrive and the Princess is surprised to find out that the cousin is a baby. The auntie suggests the Princess show the cousin around, and she reluctantly agrees. She shows him Gilbert, but he throws him into a puddle, then into the pond. She tries to show him the baby rabbits, but he scares them away by shouting, "Rabbit!". Then, they go into the fort, but he rips the drawings, soils himself, pulls the fort apart, and chews on Gilbert. To make matters worse, he then cries and Gilbert's leg falls off, causing the Princess to start screaming.

Outside, the Queen asks where the cousin is, prompting the Princess to say that they're no longer best friends because, in her words, "he scared the rabbits, he broke my tent, he pulled Gilbert's leg off, and he ''(whispered)'' became kind of smelly." The Queen replies that "the King does that all the time" but they're still "best friends". The Princess asks where the King is and the Queen replies that he's playing hopscotch with the General and she herself is going to taste the Chef's cake.

The auntie then drops the baby cousin off so the Princess can watch him while she gets his bottle. The Prime Minister and Gardener play croquet, the Maid and Admiral fly a kite, and the King and General are, as the Queen says, playing hopscotch. This causes the Princess to note that "everyone has swapped best friends". The narrator suggests that you can have more than one best friend, and the Princess agrees-- the Queen is best at cuddling, the Gardener's best at fixing things, the Chef shares food, the Maid is best for helping with the morning routine, the pets are best for bedtime, the Prime Minister is best at cheering her up when sad, the Admiral is best at "splashing", the General is best at "jumping", the King is best at stories, Gilbert is best at being her bear, and the cousin is best at making her laugh, which he does by farting so hard he bounces.

!!This episode provides examples of
----
* AnArmAndALeg: Played with-- Gilbert, a teddy bear, loses a leg.
* BabySeeBabyDo: When the Princess "shh"s her cousin, he copies it.
* CaptainObvious: The Princess says that Gilbert (who, being a teddy bear, obviously can't talk) doesn't know any good secrets.
* CompanionCube: While Princess usually plays with Gilbert like a normal little girl plays with a teddy bear, it ventures into Companion Cube territory when the narrator suggests the Princess make him her best friend, and the only reason she declines is that he already has Nora and doesn't know any good secrets.
* CompressedVice: The Queen implies that the King is gassy, but we've never seen him with gas before or since this episode.
* ContinuityNod:
** When the Maid puts Gilbert into the washing machine, she says, "He'll be out in no time," which is the same thing she said when she washed him back in "What's Wrong with Gilbert?".
** When the Princess talks about how the Prime Minister is best at cheering her up, we get a brief flashback to "I Want My Snail", where the Princess is crying about having [[AccidentalMurder accidentally killed]] Speedy the snail.
* TheDiaperChange: Takes place offscreen, when the Queen asks where the cousin is, the Princess replies, "He's having his nappy changed."
* {{Fainting}}: Puss appears to pass out when the baby soils his diaper, though considering his [[LargeHam personality]], he could just be being dramatic.
* FauxHorrific: When the baby messes himself, the Princess shouts, "Help!" and Puss even appears to pass out. Justified in that they're four years old and dramatic respectively.
* FishingForSole: When the Admiral and Prime Minister are fishing, the former hooks an old boot.
* {{Gasshole}}: Implied when the Queen says that the King "does that all the time" after the Princess complains of her cousin "becoming smelly".
* HappyDance: The General does a little dance when he wins at hopscotch.
* MistakenAge: The Princess initially expects the cousin to be older than he really is, as evidenced by her saying, "But he's a baby!".
* MrFixIt: Apparently, the Gardener is "best at fixing things".
* NoseNuggets: At one point, the baby cousin picks his nose, then waves his snot-covered finger around.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Gilbert and Nora, two of the Princess's toys, are described as best friends.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: When the Princess and her cousin scream, both of their uvulas wiggle around.
* ToiletHumour: While the baby pooping himself isn't played for laughs, there are two fart jokes. Firstly, when the Princess complains of him "becoming smelly", the Queen replies that the King does that all the time, and secondly, when the Princess says that the cousin is best at making her laugh, he farts so hard that he bounces several times.
