Finding themselves fighting on behalf of the Blade Lineage, Dante and the Sinners end up learning a little more about their company's infrastructure and the Distortions they're publicly tasked with hunting.

After the events of Hell's Chicken, the Sinners meet with Dongrang, who promises to give Faust and the Sinners the Golden Bough as part of a contract. However, the K Corp offices are attacked by the "Technology Liberation Alliance," terrorists who hijack machines and use them against the K Corp staff and the Sinners. While the Sinners fight against both of them, Yi Sang reveals his past with Dongrang and other current K Corp officers, the secrets of K Corp's Singularity is revealed, and the Golden Bough changes hands multiple times.

[[Recap/LimbusCompanyCantoVTheEvilDefining Canto V: The Evil Defining]]: Mephistopheles' boat mode is finally completed as the Sinners sail across the Great Lake. With Ishmael refusing to leave her room, Outis becomes the Captain of the "ship" and most of the Sinners as her crew. Very quickly, the crew get an example of The Laws of the Great Lake that vary from section to section as they barely avoid being eaten by a giant sea creature. Ishmael finally emerges from her room and leads the Sinners through giant U Corp ships to the Marlin Portship, a floating island made of shipping containers, with hopes of finding the coordinates to the floating L Corp branch and the Golden Bough inside.

After fighting through a group of Twinhook Pirates and rescuing a member of the LCCB team held hostage, Ishmael only becomes more driven in her desire for vengeance against Captain Ahab, the woman who led her crew to their deaths while trying to hunt the Pallid Whale. Her thirst for revenge gets even worse when the Sinners locate an offshore drilling platform that served as the L Corp. branch office until it was swallowed whole by the Pallid Whale and then spit out, and find out from a strange person known only as Rim that the same whale swallowed the Golden Bough.

* Intervallo III: '''Miracle in District 20''': With Heathcliff wanting a new look for the party he's been invited to in District 20, Don Quixote convinces him and Dante to secretly venture into a room within the Backdoor, where there is a giant toy factory staffed by gnomes, in order to find a suit and some other gifts. However, Dante soon discovers that they have been transported into the Outskirts, and the factory is creating gifts made out of human body parts for inhuman monsters. When Don and Heathcliff are both knocked out and kidnapped by the gnomes, the rest of the Sinners rush in to rescue them, and Dante learns a little bit about what life is like for those outside The City.

* Intervallo I: Hell's Chicken: After claiming a Golden Bough from Calw, the Sinners are given a request from a K. Corp official to deal with a Distortion that originated in a chicken restaurant, causing raw chickens to attach themselves to the heads of various District 11 residents. There they come up with a cooking competition to cheer up the Distorted individual in hopes of winning the prize of free fried chicken for life.

* Intervallo II: S.E.A.: The Sinners are brought to District 21 to have Mephistopheles modified to have a boat mode. Despite initial hopes that they might get some time off at a sunny beach, the bus speeds into the Backstreets and the Molar Boatworks Office, where the Sinners are pressed into service to gather scrap from local Trash Crabs to be used to remodel Mephistopheles. Meanwhile, Ishmael becomes irritable and combative with the others, fearing the Sinners are not ready to take on the Great Lake and U Corp's Singularity.

[[Recap/LimbusCompanyCantoVTheEvilDefining Canto V: The Evil Defining]]: Mephistopheles' boat mode is finally completed as the Sinners sail across the Great Lake. With Ishmael refusing to leave her room, Outis becomes the Captain of the "ship" and most of the Sinners as her crew. Very quickly, the crew get a visual of The Laws of the Great Lake that vary from section to section as they barely avoid being eaten by a giant sea creature. Ishmael finally emerges from her room and leads the Sinners through giant U Corp ships to the Marlin Portship, a floating island made of shipping containers, with hopes of finding the coordinates to the floating L Corp branch and the Golden Bough inside.

However, upon hearing the LCCB team has been kidnapped, Ishmael cuts through the Twinhook Pirates, seeing negotiations as a waste of time. She nearly kills the Pirates' First Mate Smee, until Dante physically intervenes to stop Ishmael from angering Smee's allies anymore than they already have. As thanks for sparing her life, Smee tells Ishmael the location of a kidnapped LCCB member.

As the situation spirals out of control, the Sinners end up slaughtering the entire gang, so Effie and Saude revise the plan and have the Sinners disguise themselves as the Tingtang to enter the card game. However, Don Quixote again gets excited and accidentally blows the LCB group's cover while wasting their lucky tattoo, forcing the Sinners to slaughter their way through casino security and various gangsters. However, once at the top of the casino, Rodion meets with her former colleague, a man named Sonya, and is forced to reckon with her own past as the Golden Bough begins to resonate with her.

* Intervallo II: S.E.A.: The Sinners are brought to District U to have Mephistopheles modified to have a submarine mode. However, they are held back from looking for required scrap metal when Ishmael begins to protest that they aren't ready to go into the Great Sea.

[[Recap/LimbusCompanyCantoITheOutcast Canto I: The Outcast]]: Having rescued Dante, Limbus Company makes their first stop at the ruins of a destroyed L Corp branch in District 4, with the help of a former L Corp employee named Yuri. The office is full of both Abnormalities and remnants of G Corp who survived the Smoke War. Furthermore, the Golden Bough inside begins to resonate with Gregor, forcing him and the other Sinners to live through a looping simulation of Gregor's time in the Smoke War. Eventually, the Sinners find their way to a giant apple, an Abnormality that has consumed the Golden Bough. After supposedly defeating it, the apple eats Yuri instead, and Gregor is unable to kill it. Instead, a rival group kills the apple and Yuri inside, taking the Golden Bough for themselves.

The story begins with three armed individuals (Wolf, Lion, and Panther) attacking the main protagonist, who acts surprised that they would consider stopping him from engraving the [[CensorBox ██████]]. Lion remarks that their master's plan entailed something that isn't a City taboo but rather an act that nobody would consider. They then realized that their target had somehow replaced their head with that of a clock, and had lost his ability to speak. As they attack him, he realizes that he was losing hold of his memories. Panther suggests that the target won't be telling them the "star's" location now that they can't speak. But before they can finish him off, a large bus appears and hits Lion. A woman named Faust gets out and asks the protagonist to repeat the phrase "Follow your star." In an instant he felt several chains piercing his body while Faust tells him: "Dante, from this day forth, we are bound to your time." Before he can ask who she is referring to, eleven other people get out of the bus with the intent to defend him. Faust insists that Dante follow her instructions to learn to lead them.

Despite their efforts managing to stun Lion, the people who came to save the protagonists [[HopelessBossFight are all killed by Panther]]. Faust asks Dante to follow the star before she is finished off, leaving him and the attackers wondering why they would throw their lives away so easily. Suddenly a red-eyed man appears and wounds Lion and Wolf, leaving Panther to carry them back himself. After they retreat from the Red Gaze's ambush, he asks Dante for a little time to rewind. Dante feels an excruciating pain throughout his torso as the people who died suddenly come back to life, their wounds being undone while he falls unconscious.

Dante wakes up to find himself on the bus itself, where the red-eyed man asks how he feels. He realizes he can't understand what Dante is saying, so he introduces himself as Vergilius before asking a little girl named Charon to continue driving the bus. Dante shakes his head when asked if he remembered anything, and Faust comes forth to ascertain that "Dante" really is his name. Dante realizes that she could hear his words instead of ticking noises, and she explains that he can speak with his mind to any of the "Sinners," the people who had tried to defend him earlier.

Vergilius asks the Sinners to properly introduce themselves to Dante: [[PartialTransformation Gregor]], [[MoneyFetish Rodion]], [[NaiveNewcomer Sinclair]], [[ExhaustedEyebags Yi Sang]], [[FieryRedhead Ishmael]], [[DumbMuscle Heathcliff]], [[FanGirl Don Quixote]], [[ShelteredAristocrat Hong Lu]], [[BloodKnight Ryōshū]], [[TheStoic Mearsault]], [[MildlyMilitary Outis]], and [[HypercompetentSidekick Faust]]. Vergilius explains that Dante is to be the executive manager of the Sinners and take them to the Inferno. Dante doesn't understand what Vergilius means by this, but the latter insists that Dante had to listen if he wants his original memories and head back. Dante hesitates, but Faust promises him that he will be able to engrave the Aspect. This word strikes him as familiar, so Dante instinctively agrees to carry out the mission.

Charon points out that thugs are surrounding the bus, which Faust built and named Mephistopheles. Vergilius suggests that Dante use them as practice for commanding the Sinners. Ishmael questions the point of fighting the Rats and assumes her contract was falsified, but Faust elaborates that Mephistopheles requires fuel that can produce a "byproduct" that Yi Sang uses to produce an "Identity" from his invention. In other words, a Sinner's personality and memory is temporarily overwritten by a stronger persona from the "mirrored world." Charon soon states that the road is now clear, causing Dante to complain that they've been fighting more than they needed to. Vergilius elaborates that Dante needed to walk before running, and that while it his duty to manage the staff, it is Vergilius' job to guide Dante. Dante complains about him being untrustworthy, but Faust refuses to translate that for Vergilius. Dante asks where they're going, and Vergilius disappointedly insists that he already told him.
