Logan and Briscoe investigate the murder of Ben Williams, the father of baseball player Pat Williams. All information indicated that the senior Williams only showed up in his son's life when the latter got a Major League contract. The main suspect is a chiropractor who does double duty as a bookie. The murder appears to be connected to the father's gambling debts, but a shocking truth is revealed.

Logan and Briscoe investigate the murder of Ben Benny Williams, the father of baseball player Pat Williams. All information indicated that the The senior Williams only showed up in his son's life when the latter got a Major League contract. The main suspect is Benny was attacked in his apartment and died from head injuries. He seemingly owed almost a million dollars in gambling debts to Henry "Papa Doc" Dornell, a chiropractor who does double duty moonlights as a bookie. The murder appears to be connected to But Pat tells the father's detectives it's all his debt - he is addicted to gambling debts, and tried to protect his career by having his father place bets for him. He says Papa Doc repeatedly threatened to hurt Benny if Pat didn't pay.

Papa Doc is charged with murder after his enforcer Joey "Dogs" Lang flips on him. Lang testifies that he beat up Benny,
but didn't cause any blows to the head. He was then told to go out to the car to wait for Papa Doc. But on cross-examination, he admits Papa Doc never said anything about murder. Pat's testimony collapses when he can't correctly name who he bet on. Stone suspects that Pat may be the real killer. He discovers Pat spoke to both his wife and Benny on the night of the murder - ''after'' Papa Doc left Benny's home.

So Stone tells Pat that all charges against Papa Doc will now be dismissed and he'll be back on the streets. Pat says Benny repeatedly ran up huge debts with Papa Doc, despite promising each time that he'd stop gambling. After getting beaten up, Benny tried to demand Pat pay off Papa Doc; Pat pushed him and accidentally killed him. Pat accepts
a shocking truth is revealed.
plea for manslaughter. He regretfully says the only time Benny was ever proud of Pat was when he wanted money. Stone later reflects that Benny was more like a sperm donor than a father.
