* HopeSpot: The beginning of the Autumn section. At this point, the shoe’s (seemingly) been returned to its owner and gone from the house. David is revealed to have finally gone back to work and seems to be excelling at his new job. Thus, all the signs suggest that they're on the mend, then David nearly has a breakdown at his daughter reciting a nursery rhyme. Whilst he manages to remain calm, it's made clear by his and Louise's reaction that his issues are just bubbling under the surface, setting up the ending.

* DeletedScene: The script book released in November 2020 contained a final scene set months later where [[spoiler:it was revealed David had been sent to a mental health facility but had no memory of what happened and was close to being released (he hadn't killed Ted but had injured him badly enough to the point he was "barely off his crutches" while nothing had happened to Sally). Chris, who is now in a relationship with Louise, gives her a copy of the CCTV footage showing David placing the shoe for him to find]]. Whilst it was cut solely for time, Shearsmith and Pemberton note in their commentary that they think the episode is clearly better without it.
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:The death of David's son was apparently this for him.]]
