Next day, as the rest of the club goes the Watanagashi, Keiichi sneaks into the empty school house to call Teppei, [[InpersonatingAnOfficerImpersonatingAnOfficer pretending to a police officer]] and that Satoko has gotten into to trouble. Keiichi, knowing that Teppei will have to drive through a stretch of road through the forest to get to the police station, lies in wait and ambushes him with Satoshi's bat as he drives by on his motorbike, and finally beats him to death after a short chase through the forest. After burying Teppei's body and disposing of his motorbike and the murder weapon by dumping them into the swamp, he stumbles on Takano who guesses what he did, but gives him a car ride home regardless. Keiichi points out that Tomitake's bycicle is in her car and she dodges the question. She also makes sure to tell him that [[IWasNeverHere the two of them never met on this night]], and if he can keep quiet, so will she. As he wonders if he should have killed her as well, he hears extra footsteps and goes to sleep.

After school, Rena and Mion invite him to help out with the preparations for the Watanagashi, but Keiichi rejects their invitation. Instead, he goes home and discusses the nature of ThePerfectCrime with his mom, who is a fan of mystery novels. When she points out that in every story about a crime, the crime must be discovered by someone before there can even be a story about in the first place, Keiichi reasons that the best way to kill Teppei is to lure him to an isolated place with no witnesses. He figures that since Teppei is an infamous low-life with an established history of disappearing for long stretches of time and is disliked by the local community to boot, no one will bother to report him missing, and as such his death will pass undetected as long as his body isn't discovered.

Figuring he needs Satoko somewhere safely out of the way to be able properly lure Teppei into an ambush, Keiichi returns home in the evening and calls Mion, who is audibly drunk. He asks her to take Satoko with her to the festival and keep an eye on her, saying that he has something he needs to do before he can join them. Mion in her drunken state, first starts to cry at the request and then ramble incoherently, during which she lets it slip that Satoshi made the exact same request of her exactly one year ago. Keiichi cannot help but be shocked at the coincidence. He ponders the fact Satoshi already made the same moves he is making right now and Satoko's aunt was killed one year ago. He wonders if Satoshi's reasons for running away was perhaps not rooted in cowardice after all but him killing his aunt to protect Satoko and then going into hiding rather than let Satoko be known as the sister of a murderer, and he asks Mion if she is thinking what he is thinking. Mion, still quite drunk, admits that she has had her suspicions, but she didn't and still doesn't want to think that Satoshi was capable of such a thing, but she adds that Ooishi seems to believe that was what happened on that fateful night. Her voice briefly trails off, as she notes that there somethings about the story that doesn't add up, but she gets back on track and says that she has actually already talked with Rena and Rika about having an outing with Satoko tomorrow evening, noting that Teppei didn't really seem to care one way or another. She also notes the suspicious timing of Keiichi making the same kind of phone call as Satoshi did, but decides not to press the issue, and the two bid each other goodnight.

The clinic has a security staff called Mountain Dog. Who are they gets explained in later games.games.
** The mystery story Keiichi's mom tells him about an old man who lived in solitude and was killed by his son, with his son also being his only real point of contact to the outside world, his death went undiscovered as long as the son said he was still alive? The latter part is very applicable for the whole situation with Satoko and Teppei.

Even better, the upcoming Watanagashi presents a perfect cover story, as even if someone was having puzzled by Teppei's disappearance, everyone would just think that the curse got to him, so Keiichi concludes that his best window of opportunity is during the festival itself. Keiichi cannot help but think that Teppei's death needs some extra poetic flair, and as such he thinks that it is only right he should go out the way of his equally nasty wife; by being beaten to death. As such he covertly returns to the school, and takes Satoshi's metal baseball bat as the weapon by which he will deliver his vigilante justice.

Keiichi almost set his house on fire by cooking a miso soup and Satoko and Rika just happen to come to visit and rescue him. Out of pity Satoko makes him dinner. From Rika Keiichi learns about Satoko's brother "Nii-Nii" Satoshi Satoshi, who she refers to as "Nii-Nii", and their relationship, who has run relationship. He wonders where Satoshi is, having never met him, and Satoko says he ran away.

Satoko calls Keiichi about a fight, and he urges to the rescue to what turns out to be a baseball match. Keiichi bribes the Okinomiya's pitcher with a trip to Angel Mort. Keiichi gets acquainted with Irie, who is a coach, a doctor, and informally Satoko's caretaker. Shion, apparently a baseball manager, joins the conversation and Keiichi already knows much about her.

Keiichi asks Shion about Satoshi's "transfer" he's heard from Irie, and Shion gets strangely upset about his choice of words. Keiichi taken aback by her reaction tells her that he didn't mean anything by it, but just repeated what others told him. Shion accepts his apology, but vaguely warns him that it there is more to the story; Satoshi didn't "transfer". He asks Mion and Rena about it, and while Mion clarifies Satoshi is "missing", Rena with empty eyes says he's been punished by Oyashiro-sama for trying to leave Hinamizawa and has been panicking the last time she's seen him, so Mion has to recap the curses.

Keiichi gets acquainted with Irie, who is a coach, a doctor, and informally Satoko's caretaker. He asks Irie if he knows about Satoshi, but Irie is strangely evasive on the subject and tells him Satoshi "transferred out", and his absence has left its mark on Satoko, especially since the siblings lived with their aunt and uncle, who were both terrible caretakers and regularily mistreated them, and Satoshi struggled with protecting his sister from the worst of it. He explains that despite the tragedies Satoko has experienced, she is thankfully healthier and happier these days, and he is considering formally adopting her, although his status as an unmarried man makes it difficult. Shion, apparently a baseball manager, joins the conversation and Keiichi already knows much about her.
