As per canon, the Slytherin quidditch team receives a donation of new top-of-the-line brooms from the Malfoys. Hermione responds by approaching Professor McGonagall and arranging a sponsorship deal for the Nimbus company to provide comparable brooms for the Gryffindor team. Draco's frustration at this leads to a public confrontation where he mocks both Luna and the fate of Neville's parents, at which point Neville (with considerable martial arts practice at this point) beats him to a pulp before the teachers can intervene, impressing Luna.

! Dumbledore's Office

Dumbledore's point of view appears, showing his cautious concern about how Harry has turned out, including realising that the prophecy doesn't promise that Harry will necessarily be good. However, he does recognise that the unexpected events surrounding Harry have often had good outcomes.

Professor Snape does his best to dig information out of the heads of all Harry's friends, who are not yet advanced enough in Occlumency to stop him, although they can now sense his intrusions. Harry uses the Invisibility Cloak to overhear him discussing Sirius' situation with Dumbledore; the headmaster mentions that Sirius will likely get a trial, but Snape anticipates that the Malfoys will ensure he dies before being freed, so that Narcissa can inherit the Black family wealth. Harry doesn't tell his friends, since Snape could find out and punish Harry's eavesdropping, but he does contact Rita Skeeter to present his side of Sirius' story.

* BerserkButton: Draco taunts Luna by suggesting that she's ignoring his words because she's lost her mind -- while looking at Neville. Neville takes this as a jab against his parents, whom Draco's aunt tortured into insanity, and he launches himself over the table to smash Draco's face in.
* ConvictedByPublicOpinion: Harry aims to invert this and gather so much public belief in Sirius' innocence -- or at least reasonable doubt of his guilt -- that the Ministry comes under pressure to act and grant him a fair trial.
* InheritanceMurder: Professor Snape expects that if there's a real risk of Sirius being freed, the Malfoys will take steps to ensure that he dies in prison and leaves Narcissa free to inherit.
