* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: Preston's attempt to be TheQuisling toward Bill earns him a horribly deformed face. Bill's response is implicitly not out of disgust for his treachery, but that Preston was so presumptuous as to assume he could tow Bill's favor so easily, which Bill finds rather offensive.

As Bill and his army of monsters take over Gravity Falls, Dipper attempts to rescue Mabel.

* AccidentalMisnaming: Wendy calls Toby "Tony" at one point.

** Played straight with Wendy. She's switched to a plain white tank top and reveals more of her ActionGirl side.

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Subverted; Dipper when the world starts to end makes a break for the woods, calling for Mabel through the walkie-talkie, but Ford stops him. Ford then cites TheNeedsOfTheMany and asserts the best way to save Mabel is to stop Bill. Three days later, with nothing else to lose, Dipper decides to find Mabel first before saving the world, because he knows that together, they can do the impossible.

** Wendy either did this or suffered ClothingDamage given that she's just wearing an undershirt...and a strip of her flannel coat as a headband.

* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: Although Bill sets his demon friends on Dipper, telling them to eat "Pine Tree," he keeps Mabel alive in a pink orb. Why, Dipper doesn't know, but he's going to try and save her.

* CuttingTheKnot: Bill destroys Ford's journals once he incapacitates and captures Ford.
* DarkestHour: Bill has broken in and gained his full power, much of the townsfolk has been transformed, the town is destroyed, Grunkle Ford and Mabel have been captured, the journals are destroyed. The only ones left fighting are Dipper, Wendy, Soos, and Blendin and the only ones Cipher spared are his followers--Gideon and his new gang.

* FromBadToWorse: The situations started off rather dire, and gets worse through the episode's first half:

** Dipper tries to save Ford instead of running away with the journals like Ford told him to. His attempt to fight Bill head-on is a total failure, and results in Bill incinerating the books.

* HazyFeelTurn: Gideon ''may'' have decided to be a better person to impress Mabel instead of trying to force her love him. Regardless of how that will work out, he decides to head off the Eye Bats and give Dipper time to enter Bill's prison - partially out of love for Mabel, but mostly to sort of assert dominance, refusing to let himself be anyone's lackey even though he knows full well how outclassed he is by Bill.
* HellOnEarth: Gravity Falls gets conquered by Bill Cipher, and he brought some of his fellow demons with him. And his influence is beginning to spread across the rest of the world.

* HisNameIs: When Ford's [[{{BFG}} quantum destabilizer]] misses, he tells Dipper to take the journals and use them for his one remaining way to defeat Bill. Before he can explain it, he's cut off by Bill's arrival. Ford taunts that he knows Bill's weakness, likely hoping Dipper would overhear from hiding, but Bill petrifies him before he says anymore. Dipper finds nothing helpful in the journals, then Bill incinerates them, leaving Dipper to figure out what that weakness was entirely on his own.

* MultiPartEpisode: This is the first episode of the Season 2 / series finale.

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: In the three days between Soos leaving his house and meeting up with Dipper and Wendy, he [[HeroOfAnotherStory did unspecified heroic deeds]] that resulted in folks songs about him being written.

* OneHitKill: Bill vaporizes Time Baby and his army, minus Blendin.

* RidiculousFutureInflation: Inverted; now that Bill has taken over, money no longer has any value. Wendy uses the dollar bills from an abandoned cash register to wipe sweat off her face.

* SchmuckBait: Dipper in the abandoned mall finds the last plate of nachos under a light that lit up.

* TheCavalryArrivesLate: Time Baby and his army arrive three days after the Weirmaggedon has started, and Bill promptly wipes them out. Blendin's the only survivor.

** [[Film/MadMaxFuryRoad Dipper is being driven around by a badass woman while being chased by a group of loud punks in spike-covered trucks under the orders of a weird white-haired cult leader.]]

* HeelFaceTurn: Gideon ''may'' have decided to be a better person to impress Mabel instead of trying to force her love him. Regardless of how that will work out, he decides to head off the Eye Bats and give Dipper time to enter Bill's prison.

** Right before a near-despairing Dipper and determined Wendy have a talk on her hideout's roof, we get a shot of Toby's rather, ahem, ''interesting'' AdrenalingMakeover.
** After dramatically announcing himself as the new sheriff of Gravity Falls, Gideon asks Wendy, "Have we formally met?"

* DisproportionateRetribution: Sure, Preston Northwest was willing to sell out everyone to earn Bill's favor but nothing he could have done justifies the BodyHorror he receives for his sociopathic behavior.

* CharacterDevelopment: A small, subtle example with Pacifica, who doesn’t seem nearly as afraid of her parents as she was in ''Northwest Mansion Mystery'', even calling out her father when he reacts foolishly to Bill's appearance. Also, take note; the bell is nowhere to be seen.

** Dipper himself. As shown in both ''Love God'' and ''Northwest Mansion Mystery'', Dipper seemed to be the type to hold grudges before. And now we see him, with no prompting and on his own, giving Gideon (who, unlike Robbie or Pacifica had outright ''attempted to murder'' the boy more than once) a chance for redemption. Possibly a JustifiedTrope; now isn't exactly the time for petty rivalries when Gideon is standing between him and Mabel.

** Wendy's hideout is in "Edgy on Purpose", a store shown in "Soos and the Real Girl". She's named it "Fort Cash Money".

* FateWorseThanDeath: For all the horrible things Bill does, he seems to avoid directly killing anyone (besides Time Baby and the TimePolice), [[PragmaticVillainy because he'd prefer to keep them around to torment forever]].

* MeaninglessVillainVictory: Dipper intuits that Gideon holding the key to Mabel's prison bubble is this, while Gideon insists that Mabel will eventually love him, even if it takes an eternity. Three days have passed, though; Dipper is BrutallyHonest in pointing out that keeping Mabel trapped won't make her happy, and if Gideon wants to win her heart he ought to try being a better person.

* NotNowKiddo: Pacifica is given this by her father when she calls him out on embracing Bill's NewWorldOrder. All things considered, it's a pretty good improvement from a bell.

** Considering the WorldOfChaos he's created, Bill can be considered the Gravity Falls version of [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Discord]]. Unlike Discord, however, Bill's chaos is deprived of humor, full of death and destruction, and is downright ''scary''.

** Manly Dan was in town with his sons when the apocalypse happened, while Wendy was in the graveyard with her friends. He may have prepared his kids for the apocalypse, but he probably has no idea if his only daughter took her training to heart.

** Dipper himself. As shown in both ''Love God'' and ''Northwest Mansion Mystery'', Dipper seemed to be the type to hold grudges before. And now we see him, with no prompting and on his own, giving Gideon (who, unlike Robbie or Pacifica had outright ''attempted to murder'' the boy more than once) a chance for redemption. Possibly Justified; now isn't exactly the time for petty rivalries.
