* FakeShemp: In a bizarre example of this trope, William Hartnell's regular body double Edmund Warwick was recruited to play the Daleks' android version of the Doctor later in the story. Unfortunately, the director didn't attempt to disguise the fact that Warwick didn't look anything like Hartnell from the ''front'', resulting in an effect somewhat akin to the body doubling from ''PlanNineFromOuterSpace'' as the android changes from being played by Warwick to being played by Hartnell (and back) from shot to shot.

Tropes Are Not Bad. Camp is a bit more than simply \"this episode sucks/never happened\". Also, not counting Rose\'s \"death\" and others\' mindwiping, I count ten TV companions as dying over the next 45 years, and five of them (Jack, Grace, Rory, Amy and Astrid, kind of) came back to life not long afterwards. I\'ve not seen The Trial of a Time Lord, but I assume that Peri\'s death was faked? Cities are not tropes.

* {{Camp}}: This...wasn't the show's finest moment. Even the most diehard Dalek fans tend to go "Yes, well, that didn't happen, now did it?" when asked about this episode.
** Probably one of the most awkward examples is in the first episode where six Daleks spend ''forty seconds walking out a door''. In almost complete silence.

* ClumsyCopyrightCensorship: The Region 1 DVD release has two minutes cut from episode one of "The Chase" in order to avoid paying for the rights to include a short scene with the Beatles. The scene is not crucial to the plot, but it's still an annoying edit. Thankfully, the episode exists uncut in Region 2.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Barbara and Ian finally arrive home after two years. At the time of the show's run, it would be assumed that this is a long time to be time-hoping and that they should have arrived sooner. But later episodes (and series) makes this HarsherInHindsight since Barbara and Ian are one of the few to actually get home before the KillEmAll scenarios have companions falling like flies.
** Sorry? It's still pretty rare for a companion to get killed. It happened in "The Dalek Master Plan", and then not until Adric's death.
* FridgeHorror: You know that Alabama tourist? After he saw the heroes ''and'' the Daleks, he apparently went [[GoMadFromTheRevelation insane]] ''and/or'' is going to be committed to a mad house. Weak chance of dodging both bullets. To a lesser extent (of "fridge"ing), the events on the ship, for those who don't know about the ''Mary Celeste''; also the profound silence at the end of that scene would seem to imply that everyone who was onboard is now dead.

We eventually end up on the jungle planet of Mechanus, where a group of robots called Mechonoids take the travellers prisoner. They were sent fifty years earlier to build a city ready for a human colony to arrive and take possession. The colonists never showed up, but the Mechonoids continue to defend the city in readiness.

The Mechonoids and Daleks battle, mutual destruction ensues, and the Doctor rescues Steven Taylor, a human astronaut who has been the Mechonoids' prisoner for some time. Ian and Barbara decide to use the rather more reliable Dalek time machine to get home to 1960s London, reluctantly helped by the Doctor, who takes Steven with him in the TARDIS. The Mechonoids reappear 40 years later, in the {{Big Finish|DoctorWho}} audio play ''The Juggernauts''.
