As Team X takes over on offense, they catch on that they can rally around Baro while Team Z remains disorganized. The ball gets passed to Baro, which all of Team Z swarms him to stop him from scoring again. However, this leaves many of Team X's players wide open, which Baro passes it off to allow his team to get an easy score to put Team Z down '''0-2'''. The game continues on with Baro getting another two scores while his team gets another one, which puts Team Z down in an '''0-5''' hole. Isagi realizing that unlike Team Z remaining disorganized, Team X has started to build a solid foundation for their team around Baro, who initiated the spark for his team. With only a few minutes remaining in the game, Bachira stands alongside Isagi assuring the latter that they have a chance to get something out of the game while Team X is currently relaxed with a 5 goal lead. Isagi agrees to go along with it in the hopes that he can finally start up a foundation for Team Z.

Team Z plays rock-paper-scissors to see who gets to play lead striker in the first match, which Isagi ends up winning. Ego then continues his announcement by explaining how even though the bottom 3 Round-Robin teams will be eliminated from Blue Lock, the top scorers of each of the 3 losing teams will make it through to the Second Selection. He also warns that players who get penalty cards will affect their rankings. Ego then ends his announcement by informing Team Z that their first match will be against Team X.

Before the match, Team Z holds a strategy meeting where everyone falls in behind Isagi acting as the center-forward other than Iemon as the goalie. Despite some complaints, everyone accepts it, and heads out to the Fifth Stratum's game-field where the members of Team X enter soon after. The game begins with Isagi starting off with the ball. However, Raichi immediately team-steals it away from him since it's every man for themselves to score the most goals. The result is the game devolving into complete chaos with everyone stealing the ball from one another, which Isagi realizes that this is what Ego meant by everything starting from scratch. Eventually, a large imposing Team X striker named Shoei Baro (Rank 250) breaks out of the chaos with the soccer ball, and charges towards Team Z's goal.

Ego also announces an additional rule that the 1 player who scored the most goals from each of the 3 eliminated teams will be allowed to move on to the Second Selection with the winning 2 teams. In addition, goals scored will play a part in increasing player rank, and penalties committed will play a part in the rankings as well, such as helping decide tie-breakers. Ego reminds Team Z that the first match will be about starting from scratch and working on a foundation to build around, and that in 2 hours, their first match will be against Team X.

Returning to the present, Team Z is seen in the locker room before the match. Kuon acts as the team's strategist putting together the player set-up that will revolve around Isagi as their center forward based on his win in rock-paper-scissors. The rest of the team agrees to go along with it as Isagi continues to wonder what Ego means by starting football from scratch. Team Z then walks out of the locker room to the field as Isagi remains confident knowing that his trial to change at Blue Lock is about to begin. Team Z's the first to arrive at the Fifth Stratum's indoor center field as a voice is heard on the speaker claiming that a VAR system will be used to help determine fouls that get committed. On the opposite end of the field, the players of Team X appear out of their locker room led by a large striker with an X crossed on one side of his hair. The game kicks off with Bachira starting with the ball. He asks if Isagi's feeling nervous and passes Isagi the ball given that he's been named their lead forward. Isagi's forced to stop due to several Team X players coming at him. Before Isagi's able to make his next move however, the ball is stolen from him by his own teammate, Jingo Raichi, which confuses the former. Raichi claims that he's decided to screw teamwork as he just needs to survive by being the guy that scores the most goals, but the ball is suddenly stolen from him by Kunigami, who claims that Raichi will have to face him 1-on-1 fair-and-square. The rest of Team Z joins in trying to fight for the ball, and even the players of Team X join in trying to get the ball, and are also stealing the ball from each other. Isagi stands before Baro charging towards him after the latter broke out of the free-for-all with the ball. As Isagi tries to figure out where to make the stop, Baro surprises Isagi with a heel-flick move to get around the latter. Kuon and another Team Z teammate, Yudai Imamura, move to defend against Baro, but the latter easily bypasses the two of them by performing a nutmeg through their legs on both of them. As Isagi realizes how skilled Baro actually is, he's left questioning if they can actually defeat such a player. Baro then proceeds to shoot at Team Z's goal, and the shot is so perfect that Iemon as the goalie is unable to stop it; resulting in a 1-0 lead for Team X. Baro then proceeds to taunt everyone on the field that he's not here to make friends, and that they're the peasants that are just there to make him shine as the king. The rest of Team X celebrates Baro's goal while Team Z ends up fighting amongst themselves. Isagi tries to get things under control asking everyone to stick to the plan, but Raichi refuses to go along with it not liking that Isagi will be the one scoring the goals.

Team Z's arguments continue until the VAR system orders them to get back to the game. Isagi starts with the ball believing that they have a chance if he can figure out how to stop Baro. He then starts the offensive by passing to Bachira believing that just the two of them can push through by passing to each other, which Bachira goes along with. However, the ball is once again stolen by a teammate during the pass by Igarashi, who just like Raichi is fully set on being the guy who scores the most goals for Team Z. Igarashi charges forward with the ball, but due to his lack of skill, it's easily stolen away by the Team X players, which pisses off the other Team Z players. The players of Team X then start to talk to one another that they can take advantage of Team Z's chaos by just giving the ball to Baro, and act as the latter's support.

More players of Team X start to agree with this, and begin to organize themselves with Baro as the foundation that they will build their game-plan around. They proceed to pass the ball off to Baro while taking defensive positions, which Isagi is shocked to see that unlike his team, Team X has managed to get over the start from scratch hump and starting to organize themselves. Many of Team Z's players move to mark Baro and cut off his run to the goal, but given that so many Team X players were left open, Baro easily passes it over to a teammate, which said teammate proceeds to shoot at the goal and increases their lead to 2-0. Isagi realizes that their situation has become bad given that Team Z remains disorganized while Team X has found a foundation to build around. He realizes that Baro was the main reason that Team X was able to get organized as a team before them.

Isagi thinks over the start from scratch concept, and realizes that his initial attempt to pass was useless. That all in took was one goal to make a foundation, and that Baro stepping up with his outstanding play was what allowed for a change to happen. Seeing Baro's actions become the blueprint for Team X to form strategies that they now get behind, Isagi's left wondering if this was what Ego meant by needing to work on their foundations. Due to Team Z remaining disorganized, they're unable to do anything as the game goes on to the point of the Team X led by Baro increases the lead to 5-0. With only 3 minutes left in the game, the distraught Isagi sets the ball up for their next offensive push despite knowing that they've already lost. Despite knowing that mounting a comeback at this point is impossible, Bachira remains confident that given how off-guard Team X currently is, they might be able to get away with at least 1 goal. He asks if Isagi's interested in going for it, which Isagi's willing to go knowing that someone has to step up to become the foundation for Team Z.

Z.

Standing alongside Isagi for their final offensive push against Team X, Bachira goes over the plan that he will act as the bait to get as many Team X players as he can to focus on him, and that he will pass it to Isagi, who will go for the goal. Isagi agrees to it, and passes to Bachira as the former heads off to Team X's goal, which Baro is seen watching. Isagi thinks to himself that coming back down 0-5 in just 3 minutes is impossible, but scoring at least 1 goal between himself and Bachira is what Team Z needs in the long run to have a foundation for the next game. The plan goes as planned as many players of Team X surround Bachira, which he sees Isagi running towards Team X's goal in the distance. Claiming that they can be Team Z's guiding light, Bachira makes the long pass to Isagi, who manages to get the ball. Isagi now stands before the goal in a 1-on-1 situation with Team X's goal-keeper. However, Baro catches up, and stands before Isagi ordering the latter to bow down before the king.

Shocked that Baro's now in the way, Isagi's left wondering if his plan with Bachira really was that predictable. Isagi's push comes to a stop unable to figure out how he's supposed to bypass Baro as a wide-open Raichi and a guarded Kunigami come up from behind; both ordering Isagi to have the ball passed to him. The result is Isagi suddenly having a sense as if he can see everything that's happening on the field: the goal, Raichi and Kunigami coming up behind him, and Baro blocking his way. As a result, Isagi instinctively chooses to pass it, which confuses everyone; even Isagi himself. The pass ends up going back in Kunigami's direction, which Kunigami praises Isagi for, and prepares for a long-range kick. The Team X player that's been marking him taunts that a kick at such a distance is impossible, but due to Kunigami's powerful kick, he blasts the soccer ball across the field into the top-right corner of Team X's net, which finally scores Team Z a point. Kunigami celebrates his goal while Isagi remains confused as to why his instincts resulted in him suddenly passing it to the former.

Raichi remains pissed that Kunigami got the pass when the former was wide-open, and proceeds to grab hold of Isagi, and starts yelling at him. Isagi tries to explain that he doesn't understand why his body moved on instinct to pass rather than score, which Raichi continues to yell that such an action makes no sense when Isagi was in position to score it himself. Kuon moves in to try to break them apart, but Raichi still yells back questioning why Isagi came to Blue Lock if he's just going to pass the ball rather than follow Ego's methods to play for oneself. Baro then joins in, and calls out Isagi as someone who's talentless, and not a striker for choking in front of the goal, which leaves Isagi unable to say anything back. At this point, the Team Z vs. Team X match comes to an end. Team X is announced the winners having won the game 5-1 as its players go about celebrating while the losing players of Team Z watch on. Raichi lets go of Isagi as like everyone else on the Team Z, he's more angry about the loss. Meanwhile, Isagi is left disappointed in himself that he failed to become the foundation for Team Z, and questions if this means that he's failed as a striker.

Isagi's push comes to a stop unable to figure out how he's supposed to bypass Baro as a wide-open Raichi and a guarded Kunigami come up from behind; both ordering Isagi to have the ball passed to him. The pass ends up going back in Kunigami's direction, which Kunigami praises Isagi for, and prepares for a long-range kick. The Team X player that's been marking him taunts that a kick at such a distance is impossible, but due to Kunigami's powerful kick, he blasts the soccer ball across the field into the top-right corner of Team X's net, which finally scores that will allow Team Z a point. Kunigami celebrates to score. Kuon moves in to try to break them apart, but Raichi still yells back questioning why Isagi came to Blue Lock if he's just going to pass Kunigami would get the ball rather than follow Ego's methods to play for oneself. score. Baro then joins in, approaches Isagi, and calls out Isagi the latter as someone who's talentless, and not a talentless striker for choking in front of the goal, which leaves Isagi unable to say anything back. He asks if Isagi's interested in doing it, which Isagi's willing to go knowing that someone has to step up to become the foundation for Team Z.

!!!Chapter 5: Football From Scratch
In their Blue Lock room, the members of Team Z use rock-paper-scissors to decide on what positions they will get to play for the first match. Kuon reminding them that the winner gets to decide their position while the rest will choose based on their current ranks. Isagi ends up winning overall, and decides to be the forward. Flashing back a bit to Ego talking to Team Z over their room's monitor, a recap is provided on the 5 team round-robin First Selection. Ego then warns everyone that the 3 teams that get eliminated will lose the right to play for Japan's National Team.

However, Isagi remains confident to be the last man standing at Blue Lock, and pushes forward with the ball.

The confused Isagi watches on as he just sees the large group of strikers playing for themselves in a free-for-all trying to get the ball. He realizes that this crude play is what Ego meant by starting from scratch, and remains confused as to how he's supposed to approach such a situation. Suddenly, the large Team X player with the X in his hair, Shoei Baro (Rank 250), breaks out of the free-for-all with the ball. Baro charges at Isagi claiming that he will end the latter as Isagi realizes that he needs to make a stop.

!!!Chapter 6: Foundation

He asks if Isagi's interested in doing it, which Isagi's willing to go knowing that someone has to step up to become the foundation for Team Z.

!!!Chapter 7: Get in Front of the Goal!
