Ego then interrupts with an announcement having been listening in on Team Z's conversation, which he informs them that they're on the right track. He also informs them that Team V has won their match against Team Y 8-0. Ego then gives Team Z a bit of advice that what they're currently searching for to make a proper team foundation is the core that will allow them to make "something out of nothing." That what they need to discover is their individual powers that go beyond just the simple positions that they take on the field. Thus, Ego announces that in order for Team Z to go through a revolution, what they need to find are their "weapons" that will allow them to become strikers that destroy their opponents. The result is Isagi and company being left wondering what their football weapons are.

Kunigami provides half the sirloin to Isagi since the latter's assist led to the goal. As the two of them happily eat their sirloin, Kunigami questions why Isagi chose to pass to him over Raichi. In return, Isagi explains how he felt like he "smelled a goal." Mainly because he experienced Kunigami's powerful shot during the Tag game, which Isagi believed that in that specific moment, Kunigami would score. As a result, Kunigami figures that Isagi's weapon might be the instinctive ability to smell when a goal can be scored. Overall, Isagi thanks Kunigami for the sirloin, which they bump fists ready to take on the next game. Isagi now having befriended a second teammate at Blue Lock.

During break, Team Z discusses what they believe to be their football weapons. They turns out to be Bachira's dribbling, Raichi's "sexy football" play-style, Gagamaru's close-quarter play, Naruhaya's speed across the field, Iemon being a jack-of-all-trades, Igarashi's unyielding spirit, Kunigami's powerful left shot, Imamura's good speed-and-technique, and Kuon's high jumping power. However, Isagi's unable to come up with what his weapon is, and Chigiri has no interest in revealing his weapon. Writing down everyone's weapons on a notepad, Kuon thinks up the "I'm the Next 9" strategy where the 9 players with weapons will take a 10-minute turn as the lead center-forward that everyone will have to follow behind. Team Z then spends time practicing their strategy for the next match.

The players of Team Z are back in the locker room following their 1-5 loss to Team X. Raichi goes about complaining that Isagi as their center-foward was a mistake, and that it should be him as the lead next time, but the rest of the team complains as well as they also want to be the star. Isagi remains alone with a towel over his head due to his failure, and thinks over what Baro said about him being a talentless striker that choked in front of the goal. He then thinks about the moment that he passed to Kunigami on instinct, and remains confused as to why he performed that action. Looking at his Team Z teammates still fighting in the locker room, Isagi questions to himself what it is that he's lacking in order for him to get Team Z to win. Suddenly, Kuon calls out to everyone to calm down and reminds everyone that they've been put in a dicey position due to having already been saddled with a loss. Team Z remains confused, which Kuon reminds them that they're in a 5 team round-robin tournament. That if all teams are about even, there could be a case where everyone ends up with 6 points. Thus, in order to be one of the 2 teams that pass to the Second Selection, they need to aim for at least 7 points, which means that Team Z needs to get 2 victories and a draw for their next 3 matches.

Isagi thinks it over, and agrees with Kuon's logic that 2 round-robin losses would put a team in a dead zone that would be next to impossible to crawl out of. As a result, Kuon makes it clear to everyone of Team Z that they're finished if they end up losing the next match. Thus, it's not the time to be thinking about only one's self. Everyone calms down having come to understand what Kuon's getting at, which Igarashi asks if this means that Kuon has a plan, but Kuon answers that he doesn't. Kunigami then speaks up pointing out that he wouldn't have scored without Isagi and Bachira's help, and points out that this moment might be a hint that will help them push forward. Raichi gets pissed claiming that Kunigami just wants more passes to him, but Bachira agrees that of the 6 goals, Kunigami's was the best one of the match, and that they can win if they perform more goals like that. Imamura asks if this all has something to do with Ego's "egoist training," but another Team Z teammate, Hyoma Chigiri, finds that hard to believe since not even the best professional ego players have won the World Cup. However, Chigiri notes that what this is probably connected to is the "start from scratch" and "build foundations" ideas that Ego mentioned.

Reminded of such words, Isagi speaks up as he mentions that he might have figured out what Ego meant by that. Team Z agrees to listen, which Isagi reminds them all of how the start of the Team Z vs. Team X match ended up as a free-for-all where everyone was just focused on scoring goals. That "start from scratch" was the chaotic free-for-all. Everyone agrees that may have been the case, which Isagi continues on that the chaos for Team X ended the moment Baro scored a goal, which resulted in Team X being inspired to pass to him and become a proper team. That Baro became the foundation for Team X to build around, and resulted in the players of Team X improving as well. As a result, Isagi figures that they just need to find their own foundation in the form of an overwhelming talent like Baro that can hold the team up and guide Team Z to victory. Team Z all start to get what Isagi's referring to, which Isagi goes on that Ego's goal was to make it clear to his strikers that they must discard everything they previously knew about football, and to only focus on scoring goals in order to make a foundation through a clash between egos.

Overall, Isagi figures that Ego's message that he's trying to get across to them is that football, and the teams within it, are born from a top-notch striker. At this point, Ego shows up on the locker room monitor having been listening to the conversation, and agrees that Isagi's on the right track. Ego then calls for their attention to warn them that the Team V vs. Team Y match just ended in an 8-0 landslide victory for Team V, which surprises everyone. Ego then mentions how he heard that Team Z's had his words about "starting from scratch" and "building a foundation" in mind, but have been struggling to "create something from nothing." Thus, Ego provides them a bit of advice by mentioning how in baseball, it's common for players to be associated with one role. However, it's different for football where players have to play both offense and defensive while on the field. Thus, can't be won by just sticking to one role like in baseball. As a result, Ego states that what Team Z needs is to figure out what their "individual power" is.

Continuing the explanation, Ego states how what Japan is primarily known for in football is its great mid-fielders and side-backs as they're known for great team-play. However, he mentions that it's because of this that Japan's football has been unable to evolve any further, which means that there can be no revolution to change it. Thus, he orders his Blue Lock strikers to rewrite their common sense in order to be the "destroyers" by scoring goals in order to destroy the opponent's structure. That it's a revolution on the field where a goal instills chaos on the opponents. Ego tells his strikers to not confine themselves to just one role as they're incapable of following the system. Thus, in order to become the foundation of the team, Ego brings up the concept of "football weapons." From dribbling, shooting, heading, speed, etc., Ego explains how each striker must carry a weapon that's capable of disrupting and destroying the enemy organization. He states that every elite striker has a weapon, and orders his strikers to reflect on what it is that they have in order to have their revolution. The members of Team Z all get to thinking about their own weapons while Isagi thinks that figuring out his weapon will help him overcome the First Selection.

are.

Following Ego chatting with them in the locker room, Team Z returns to their team room to discuss their football weapons. Kuon takes the time to write down everyone's football weapon, which Bachira mentions that his strength is his dribbling, Raichi praises his shooting technique as a "sexy ball," Gagamaru notes his close-quarters play, Naruhaya claims he can fly across the pitch, Iemon mentions that he's a jack-of-all-trades, Igarashi announces that he's got unyielding spirit, Kunigami states that he's got his left foot's shooting power, Imamura mentions that he's got good speed and technique, and Kuon states that he's got good jumping power. Once it's Isagi's turn, he's unable to decide what his weapon is, and is forced to be skipped until he figures it out. The final turn is Chigiri, but Chigiri states that he doesn't want to state it, which confuses everyone.

Seeing Chigiri refuse to talk, Kuon moves on by explaining that Ego wants them to make a foundation based on their football weapons. Thus, they need to learn how to put their weapons to use from here on out. The members of Team Z note that just having weapons isn't going to help them play more as a team for the next matches. Isagi asks if there's a strategy they could use to fix this problem, which after Kuon thinks it over, he comes up with an idea that would give everyone a fair shot. Shortly after, Kuon shows off his "I'm the Next 9" plan for the next match, which everyone agrees to go along with. Team Z then spends the free time they have before the next match to practice playing football, which Isagi can see that what drives them to play together now is the thought that losing the next match will result in their destruction.

One day, Isagi appears alone in the cafeteria as he's having a late dinner compared to everyone who's already eaten and gone to bed. He ends up only with natto to eat again while trying to think over what it is that he has for a football weapon, but comes up empty. Suddenly, Kunigami appears, which to Isagi's surprise, it turns out that Kunigami is actually here just to meet with the former. Kunigami thanks Isagi for the pass in the game against Team X, and then begins to walk away. However, seeing that Kunigami is actually a nice guy, Isagi asks the former to wait up. Isagi asks what it is that drives Kunigami to play football. He tries to back out of it finding the question embarrassing, but Kunigami answers that it's to become a football superhero. Kunigami explains how it's based around what he saw on television as a kid that what he came to view as a superhero is the real life strikers on the football field who triumphantly scored the winning goal, which is the kind of symbol that he wants to become in the world.

Isagi asks if Kunigami really means that, which the latter states that he will fulfill that dream fair-and-square, even if everything ends up going against him. Kunigami's dream leaves an impact on Isagi as he deems the former to be amazing for having a resolution that he himself lacks. Isagi calls Kunigami cool, which the latter then proceeds to grab a plate of food from the nearby machine. Kunigami asks if Isagi wants to eat it together, which shocks Isagi upon realizing that it's a high-end steak meal. Seeing Isagi's confusion, Kunigami points him to the rule written on the cafeteria wall. That there's a point system that can be exchanged for rewards based on goals made: 1 point for a nice sirloin steak meal, 3 points for cellphone return, 5 points for a nice bed, and 10 points for a day outside. Believing that Isagi deserves half the credit for the goal that was scored, Kunigami cuts his steak in half, and puts one half of Isagi's natto.

Talking about what happened in the game against Team X, Kunigami asks why Isagi chose to pass to him when Raichi was more wide-open to score. Isagi explains that it was an instinctive reflex due to the thought that Raichi was going to have to deal with Baro anyway, and that what he bet on was Kunigami scoring as he had already experienced being hit by Kunigami's powerful shot during the Tag game. Thus, Isagi states that he "smelled the goal" more on Kunigami than he did on Raichi. The idea of "smell the goal" catches Kunigami's attention, which Isagi states that it doesn't matter in the end since he didn't score the goal himself. However, Kunigami assures Isagi that it's a real talent that Isagi has an ability to follow his instincts, which he figures that Isagi's football weapon is the ability to "Smell the Goal." Kunigami and Isagi then proceed to eat into their steak, and are amazed by how great it tastes. Isagi then thanks Kunigami for cheering him up, and calls the latter a great guy, which leaves an impact on Kunigami to the point of feeling embarrassed. The two of them then perform a friendship fist-bump. Kunigami stating that they must be ready to win the next game, which Isagi agrees with.

One day, Isagi appears alone in the cafeteria as he's having a late dinner compared to everyone who's already eaten and gone to bed. He ends up only with natto to eat again while trying to think over what it is that he has for a football weapon, but comes up empty. Suddenly, Kunigami appears and asks appears, which to sit with Isagi. To Isagi's surprise, it turns out that Kunigami is actually here just to meet with the former. Kunigami then thanks proceeds to thank Isagi for the pass in the game against Team X, and then begins to walk away. However, seeing that Kunigami is actually a nice guy, Isagi asks the former to wait up. Isagi then asks what it is that drives Kunigami to play football. Isagi tries to back out of it finding the question embarrassing, but Kunigami answers that it's to become a football superhero. Kunigami explains how it's based around what he saw on television as a kid that what he came to view as a superhero is the real life strikers on the football field who triumphantly scored the winning goal. That that's the kind of symbol that he wants to become in the world.

!!!Chapter 8: Message

!!!Chapter 9: Superhero

Suddenly, Kunigami appears and asks to sit with Isagi. To Isagi's surprise, it turns out that Kunigami is actually here to meet with the former. Kunigami then thanks Isagi for the pass in the game against Team X, and then begins to walk away.
