* MercyKill: Radu performs one of the soldier the Doctor is attempting to save When the Doctor objects, Radu points out that even if the Doctor saves him from blood loss, the wound is poisoned and the man will die a few days hence, and that they have not the resources to care for him in any case.

* DeliberateValuesDissonance: The Doctor says that Peri is from a nation that isn't [[TakeThat used to women "knowing" their place]]. The Doctor quite literally invokes this trope later on when explaining it to Peri.

Moral Dissonance has been cut

* MoralDissonance / ValuesDissonance: Played up between Peri and Erimem, the story making use of the fact that while the events of this story are set in Peri’s (and our) past, it takes place in the future from Erimem’s perspective. Peri starts out sympathetic for the victim they find as Erimem thinks it might be a suitable death for a potential war criminal. When he dies, Peri laments it, and Erimem thinks it is an untimely death. Later, Erimem, who has experience of being a ruler, is also more understanding (if not more approving, exactly) of Vlad's vicious tactics in the name of ''realpolitik''.
** Again when Peri hates the idea of having eaten either horse or goat.

* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: the first words out of a terrified and babbling Peri's mouth on being confronted by Vlad the Impaler, a.k.a. Dracula, are "You're shorter than I thought you'd be". Her follow-up lines do not help the situation.

Removing because a) Subspecies is ridiculously obscure compared to Doctor Who, and b) Radu's a pretty common name in modern Romania.

* NamesTheSame: More contemporary fans might know Radu of the ''Film/{{Subspecies}}'' series.
