* DarkestHour: Before the planes even clear the cloudbank, we hear German antiaircraft fire and screams over the radio. Then, we see planes getting shot down and characters we know getting killed. From there, though, it is Subverted, as we see that for every plane shot down, 10 are getting through; for every trooper killed, a dozen are successfully jumping, and the invasion is well underway.

* HopeSpot: At first during the D-Day jumps, we see planes being torn apart and shot down, with their entire complements being killed in the process. The next shot, we see that for every plane getting shot down, 10 are getting through and deploying their troops, ensuring that the Allied invasion is well underway.

* LifeSavingMisfortune: Had Captain Sobel not been reassigned, then he would have been on the HQ transport plane in Meehan's place when it gets shot down.

* TheEnemyWeaponsAreBetter: Played with; soon after landing in Normandy, Winters briefly arms himself with a German rifle taken from a soldier killed in an ambush -- but only because he lost his equipment during the jump and, in this case, having ''any'' rifle is better than just his service knife. Notably, once the unit come across the body of a US paratrooper killed in the jump, he takes the dead soldier's gun and ammo and uses that instead for the rest of the episode.

Also implied to be the reason Malarkey is hunting for a Luger.
