** [[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane The rationalist explanation]] is that Dr. Schmidt knew what happened due to his and Edgar's questioning of Walter, and primed the medium beforehand.

Desperate for leads, the police conduct "criminal telepathy" - a seance, led by Anno/Dr Schmidt. It points them toward a knife dropped by the Phantom on the roof of the studio. The knife is cosmetically identical to [[ChekhovsGun Weintraub's switchblade]].

Gereon revisits Horst Kessler's apartment, attempting unsuccessfully to track him down. He also visits Richard Pechtmann's nearby apartment, where he learns that Richard has been missing for several days.

Charlotte and Hans Litten pressure Greta into approving Litten's appeal on her behalf.

Nyssen reveals his deception to his mother. Despite his pleas for her to have faith in his judgment just once, she quickly resolves to reverse his trades and have Nyssen committed to an asylum.

Gereon, watching from a nearby bar, spots Moritz returning to Horst's apartment. The communist pimp Ali, lying in wait nearby, takes the opportunity to shoot Horst when he answers the door. Gereon is too concerned with Moritz to pursue.

Charlotte has a falling-out with her younger sister. Similarly, after the murder of Horst Kessler, Gereon reconsiders his approval of Moritz's association with the Hitler Youth.

Marie-Luise Seegers sneaks into her father's office and photographs the sensitive documents she promised.

At police headquarters, [[TheReveal Dr Ullrich plants Walter Weintraub's fingerprints on the Phantom's knife recovered from the roof]].

----
!!Tropes:

* BoomHeadshot: Horst's demise

* ChekhovsGun: Weintraub's distinctive switchblade was used incidentally several times in earlier episodes before suddenly becoming very important to the Betty Winter case in this episode.

* DirtyOldMan: The man Toni is employed to read to has her bathe in his home with the door open. What happens to her next occurs offscreen and is only implied.

* DramaticIrony: Charlotte complains to the bartender who works underneath her apartment about the day-tenant's habits, [[spoiler:unaware that he is the day-tenant.]]

* GoodGirlsAvoidAbortion: After the final falling-out with Gereon in the previous episode, Helga goes through with her abortion with Frau Cziczewicz's help, which is witnessed by Charlotte.

* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: Moritz has started smoking since joining the Hitler Youth. Ironic, considering Hitler's own opinions regarding the habit.

* Hypocrite: Immediately after lecturing Alfred on how she has become strong after grieving for her husband and elder son, and the importance of taking personal initiative and responsibility, his mother quickly breaks down in a panic when Alfred reveals his 106 million Mark bet against the market.

* NoHistoricalFiguresWereHarmed: Or rather, in this case, were indeed harmed. Horst Kessler is clearly based on Horst Wessel, a Nazi whose murder by a communist was heavily exploited politically by the Nazi Party, and even incorporated into the official party mythology. Even the exact circumstances of his murder are replicated.

* SpookySeance: Surprisingly, it is quite accurate and gets results.

* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Dr Ullrich plants evidence framing Weintraub as the Phantom.]]

* UngratefulBastard: The Armenian is apparently unappreciative of the sacrifices Weintraub has made on his behalf, as he expels him from his household for being in love with Esther.

* VomitIndiscretionShot: Czerwinski vomits into a box during the seance.
