Added DiffLines:

* AwkwardFatherSonBondingActivity: Downplayed. George Michael and Michael usually share a loving father-son relationship, so George Michael's desire to do something other than go out for a bike ride together is a source of deep consternation to Michael. In the end, they make cornballs together in the model home's kitchen.
* ClusterBleepBomb: Buster has a very long bleep when he's talking to Michael, and again when all the Bluth siblings gather in the model home. PlayedForLaughs because it's rather out of character for Buster to swear so much and represents him rebelling against Lucille. It's later revealed that he was just trying to fit in, and massively overcompensated.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Buster completely misses that GOB and Michael are actually insulting Lucille.
---> '''Michael:''' She's always gotta wedge herself in the middle of us so she can control everything.\\
'''Buster:''' Yeah, Mom's awesome. Maybe we should call her.
* CrosscastRole InUniverse: Tobias ultimately casts Maeby as the male lead in ''Much Ado About Nothing'' and casts Steve Holt as Beatrice.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: George Sr. says that Lucille was pregnant with Buster for 11 months. This is likely a lie to cover up the fact that Oscar is Buster's real father, a fact which is revealed much later in the show.
** Tobias is seen wearing cutoffs in the shower before he's revealed to be a Never Nude.

Added DiffLines:

* ImStandingRightHere: Lucille and Michael talk about Buster like he's not in the room despite him sitting right in front of them. Buster, however, doesn't seem to mind or even think that he should.
** At the end of the episode, Michael and Lucille have a fairly personal conversation about their sons growing apart from them. The camera pans out to reveal that Michael was in a board meeting the entire time, and that a roomful of Bluth Company employees were there the entire time.
* KissingCousins: George Michael tries to kiss Maeby, Maeby kisses Steve Holt, and Tobias' recasting would make Steve Holt and George Michael kiss. They're all cousins.
* LatinLand: Lucille assumes that Marta is Mexican because she's Latina. In reality, she's "Columbian or something."

Added DiffLines:

* {{Manchild}}: Buster's general manchild tendencies are particularly evident in this episode.

Added DiffLines:

* MyBelovedSmother: Lucille, to Buster. He actually does want to stay with Lucille, despite her overbearing ways.
* ParentalObliviousness: Tobias doesn't know much about Maeby - her personality or her whereabouts.
---> '''Tobias:''' Maeby, where are you off to on this glorious Sunday afternoon?\\
'''Tobias:''' ''[sotto voce, to Michael]'' She won't tell me.\\
'''Maeby:''' I'm going to audition for a play.\\
'''Tobias:''' Well, that time it didn't work.
* PronounTrouble: Played with in Michael and Tobias's conversation about the school play, thanks to Tobias's perplexing crosscasting.
* PsychologicalProjection: Tobias [[MistakenForGay thinks that George Michael is gay]] for a very insignificant reason. Ironic, considering that Tobias himself is seemingly in a TransparentCloset.
---> '''George Michael:''' I think your dad thinks I'm gay.\\
'''Maeby:''' Oh, he thinks everyone's gay.
* ShowerOfAngst: PlayedForLaughs because Tobias is deeply distraught over a high school sophomore's negative review of his play.
* ShowWithinAShow with SchoolPlay: George Michael and Maeby both try out for their school's production of ''Much Ado About Nothing'' so that they can participate in the kissing scene. Tobias decides to become the director.

Added DiffLines:

* ZipMeUp: Played with due to the incestuous undertones. GOB realizes that he can't live with Lucille when she tells him to zip her up, and moves back into the model home.
** Paralleled in a one-off scene when Michael asks Buster to zip up his backpack, referencing how [[InTheBlood he and Lucille both have a tendency to smother their children.]][[note]]Though this time, without the incestuous undertones.[[/note]]

Overlong plot summary replaced with concise version, as per mod decision.

Michael tries to keep up the old family traditions alive by making cornballs with The Cornballer for breakfast, and inviting George Michael on a bike ride around the county. George Michael, however, tells him that he is too busy today for bike rides and cornballs. Lindsay comments that George Michael appears to finally be growing up and he probably soon won't need his father any more, much to Michael's dismay. Tobias tries to comfort Michael, telling him that it is generally healthy behavior for adolescents to display a large degree of autonomy; why, Maeby never tells Tobias what she is up to most of the time. To demonstrate this he asks her what her plans for today is, but, much to his surprise, she actually answers him: she is going to audition for her school's rendition of ''Theatre/MuchAdoAboutNothing''. Tobias is quite touched by this, believing that his daughter is trying to reach out to her "actor" father.

Turns out, however, that she is trying to get the role as Beatrice so she can get a kiss from Steve Holt(!), the school's most popular male student, who is poised to play the role of Benedick. And the true reason why George Michael is so busy, is because he is auditioning too, hoping to get the role as Benedick so he can get a kiss from Maeby. The next day the role list is revealed: Steve Holt(!) and Maeby are ecstatic to find out that they have both gotten their roles, while George Michael is disappointed to find out that he is only Steve's substitute.

Meanwhile, because the company funds are frozen, Buster's college studies -- which usually occupies him during the summer -- are on an indefinite hiatus, and Lucilie is getting seriously annoyed with him as he constantly hangs around her. When Lindsay calls Lucilie to beg for money for a red dress she is interested in, Lucilie learns that the rest of the family has been hanging out at Michael's place lately, noticing a chance to get some time away from Buster, she demands that Michael spends as much time with his brother as with the rest of the family, and while Michael reluctantly agrees, he in turn demands that Buster in turn helps out around the company office. But Buster's clumsiness and general childishness ends up doing more harm than good.

Maeby discovers to her horror that her father has gotten the post as director of the school play by begging and badgering the school inspector for it at length. Fearing being embarrassed by her father's antics, she quickly quits the play. Michael, meanwhile, discovers that George Michael is involved in the school play, and he asks him if he doing it to impress a girl, which George Michael hotly denies. Michael talks with Tobias about their children's behavior, and Michael admits that Tobias might right in that George Michael is growing apart from him. Tobias tells him that his son's behavior could actually be all about him being in love with a girl, but Michael tells him that George Michael denied this. Tobias is puzzled by this, and notices George Michael talking with Steve and an idea suddenly starts to form in his head...

Tobias tells George Michael that he knows why he is in the play, and George Michael briefly panics, believing that Tobias has discovered his attraction to Maeby, but it turns out that Tobias believes that George Michael is gay and interested in kissing Steve, so he announces that he will stage the play the way Shakespeare himself did it; by using male actors for the female roles, and as such Steve will be play Beatrice and George Michael Benedick. Though relieved that his feelings for Maeby is still a secret, George Michael is not exactly too happy about the prospect of having to kiss his rival.
