An unexpected revelation from Susan leads Finn closer to answers about his past.

* BecomingTheMask: Martin may have started out trying to con Minerva, but seemingly really decided to become a dedicated father and husband. He didn't purposely abandon his wife or child, even going so far to save Baby Finn from the Guardian when he could have just jumped overboard and abandon Finn to be crushed. Unfortunately, after leaving, he seems to have relapsed, although this may be due to brain damage.
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: Martin becomes the first to get past the Colossus by [[GoForTheEye breaking open its eye and shining a laser-light into]], but this results in him and Finn being separate and lost at sea.

* DumbassNoMore: Susan Strong wasn't exactly an idiot, but recovering her memories let her speak clearly instead of in [[YouNoTakeCandle broken English]].

* EndangeringNewsBroadcast: When Martin appears on TV when Minerva accepts an award, the old lady he double-cross recognizes him while in re-education and it allows her to find where he lives.

* WeaksauceWeakness: As it turns out, the gigantic, all-powerful Guardian can be duped with a laser pointer, as shining it into it's optics result in it being blinded, which is how Martin manages to beat it.

* AdultFear: As far as Minerva can tell, Martin intentionally ran away from the island--something she vouched for him not wanting to do--and took their son with him.

* ContinuityNod: The original human Founders are implied to be the tribe that Marceline helped escape from mainland Ooo a thousand years ago, with a statue of "Two Bread Tom" - their leader - in the park.

* PracticalCurrency: Martin only accepts payment in gadgets, though many are more novelties than useful. He [[OneOfUs apparently just finds the things nifty.]]
