True, Caillou knocking the ball down was a bit of an overreaction, but Caillou only misbehaved in the first place because Doris triggered him, yet Caillou is still held fully responsible for the mess when Doris was one who instigated Caillou's tantrum in the first place by calling Caillou a "annoying crybaby brat". (And this was after she had spent most of the video telling him ''not'' to misbehave only to cause one of Caillou's signature tantrums herself.)

Caillou and Rosie float within ten feet of the sun and suffer no burns, lacerations, or injuries of any kind, when in reality coming within just half a mile of the sun means instant death. Rosie pushes Caillou into the sun, and Caillou simply lays on top it, bursting into a tiny flame. The sun is a huge ball of gas, and even if Caillou somehow managed to not be vaporized right away, he would pass through the gases and be burned to death within a few seconds. Boris and Doris then come over to ground Rosie, and they don't burn either.

It doesn't help that in some videos, people seem to take glee in dishing out the punishments on the grounding victims, and will even celebrate their getting grounded/arrested/killed. Woe betide you if you're a "baby show" character, too, as everyone in the world (including your own family) will hate your guts and will gladly inform you of this fact, show NoSympathy when you get yourself in trouble (even if you just badly injured yourself), and will gladly punish you in severe ways if you even just step ''slightly'' out of line. The level of sadism in the videos tend to fluctuate, with some users' grounded videos being more silly than cruel, while other users' videos have characters (especially "baby show" characters) getting grounded or arrested for simply existing.
* SadistTeacher:
** Many of the teachers come off as this seeing as how they fly off the handle and suspend/expel students or send them to the principal over the slightest offenses. Even more so, when someone kills, grounds, or otherwise maims one of these characters, they are un-grounded or otherwise rewarded for doing so.
** Users are known to regularly make rant videos disparaging shows or movies they don't like.

* TenMinuteRetirement: [=NotSmirks=] was one of many who had opted to quit after the removal of the old options. However, discovering [=GoAnimate=] for Schools prompted him to return to the field once more.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: "Warren Cook Gets Grounded" videos usually have Warren's dad call a massive mob of random characters, who proceed to yell at Warren. That said, given the emotional maturity of your average [=GoAnimate=] user, most of their speeches are along the lines of "You are a bad bad bad bad bad bad boy."
* ThatRussianSquatDance: The children Cartoon Classics characters have this as their dancing animation.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: This applies to anyone, really. Anyone who gets killed tends to return the next time a video requires them to. This includes Caillou, Dora, and other grounding victims, Caillou's other family members (Rosie in particular), or school faculty members.

** Whenever one or more characters get told by a troublemaker that the troublemaker is going to beat up or kill them, nine times out of ten, the victim character(s) will just stand there in place screaming or saying "[[RapidFireNo Nononononononono]]" as the troublemaker runs up to maim/kill them when they could be running away, defending themselves, or calling for help.

** No matter how nice an existing character may be in their home series, their [=GoAnimate=]/Vyond counterparts will invariably be a terrible person. Even characters who are normally best friends (such as Caillou and his friends, WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}} and Buster, etc.) will express distaste for each other or get each other grounded without a second thought.
** In particular, the parents of existing kid characters deserve special mention here. Nine times out of ten, they become [[HairTriggerTemper explosive]] [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkasses]] who will ground, torture, or kill their kids for the slightest offense or laugh at their misfortunes, no matter how nice or patient they are in their home series. This is most apparent with Caillou's parents, who in canon are some of the nicest people around, but in the grounded videos are either apathetic uncaring {{Jerkass}}es (Mommy/Doris) or borderline AxCrazy (Daddy/Boris).
* TookALevelInKindness: Doris tends to be far more reasonable and willing to defend Caillou in a lot of {{Deconstruction}} videos, to the point of standing up for Caillou in front of Boris.

** Caillou will move heaven and earth to spend a day at Chuck E. Cheese's.

* UngratefulBastard: Sometimes characters will actually ''help'' other characters, and right their wrong-doings. Often their parents will still ground them anyway for some contrived reason, just to be jerks, or just to keep up the status quo.
* TheUnintelligible:
** The Spanish-language voices were intended for writing dialogue in Spanish, but many users who make Grounded videos use these voices to write English dialogue for Hispanic characters anyway. As a result, these characters speak in heavily accented, barely legible English, and frequently have to be captioned. Dora's Dad and Grandma, as well as Alejandro from ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'', most frequently fall under this.
** Uolliac (Bizarro Caillou) speaks in barely comprehensible WordSaladHumor with the occasional "[=ah-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-ah=]" thrown in from time to time.
* UnsatisfiableCustomer:
** Most of the troublemakers in "(Character) Misbehaves At (Restaurant)" videos. The gist of these videos is that the character goes to a restaurant such as [=McDonald's=], but something they order is unavailable. The troublemaker usually [[BerserkButton loses their temper]] and either trashes or completely destroys the establishment because they won't take no for an answer when denied the food they were trying to order or refuses any other food options. Oftentimes the missing food isn't even the main thing they were trying to order (such as a certain kind of milkshake), making them downright unreasonable on top of unsatisfiable.
** This also extends to "(Character) Misbehaves at (Store)" videos. A character will want a certain type of item, but the parents will not let them, usually because it's too expensive. When offered a cheaper replacement, the character will usually demand the initial item before ultimately flipping out and wrecking the store.

** "Getting in dead meat", which appears to be a term for getting a bad behavior card and expelled from school, when put in the context of "X Gets in Dead Meat" videos. For the record, 'dead meat' is a slightly-outdated term meaning that someone or something is or will be in serious trouble.
** "Engaging" someone started as a euphemism for "fuck" due to a ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' reference, but it devolved into a euphemism for "kill".
* VacationEpisode:
** Many videos involve families taking vacations only for that one kid to cause some sort of ruckus that gets them grounded and often ends the vacation early.
** Another frequent trend in these types of videos is a troublemaker taking a trip to a "Great Wolf Lodge" with either their family or a friend's family. Upon getting there, the troublemaker maims or even kills people, scares everyone out of the water, and eventually burns the property down after attacking a skeeball machine.
* VagueAge: Many of the videos make it heavily ambiguous as to whether Caillou or Dora are still kids, if they're going to high school, or if they're grown up and the animators are just lazy to change designs. Rosie is rendered mostly as a tiny adult figure, though she still acts like her canonical two-year-old self. Bizarrely, some videos even show Boris (Caillou's ''dad'') attending Caillou's school, sometimes to the point that he's in Ms. Martin's preschool class ''alongside'' Caillou.
* VillainBall: The troublemakers often cause trouble for literally no reason, even if they'll get little to no benefit from causing the grievance they commit and/or are told point-blank by their parent(s) or teacher the [[YouAreGrounded consequences]] for doing so.
* VillainProtagonist: The characters who get grounded in the [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin grounded]] videos (even though they sometimes [[DesignatedVillain may not seem like villains]]).
* VocalDissonance: Whenever a user decides to provide their own voice to a character, particularly when it's a kid who hasn't hit puberty yet voicing a clearly adult character. (Which sounds every bit as off as it sounds.) You could also make a case for most kid characters, who often have adult voice settings given to them that sound nothing like kids, much less the character they may be based on. (Though that can be excused by users having only those voices to work with.)
* VoicesAreMental: In the [[FreakyFridayFlip body-swapping]] videos or a lot of times when a character is turned into another person.
* VomitIndiscretionShot:
** Some characters when they drink [[IAteWhat lemonade that was made from urine]] during "Character Makes A 'Lemonade' Stand" videos throw up onscreen.
** Characters will throw up onscreen when they eat the poop samples that are sold by the troublemaker in "Character Sells Poop Samples" videos.
* VulgarHumor: Along with ToiletHumor, this is also frequent, and rarely, even have ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' levels of vulgarity or extreme violence, considering most users are kids who love any adult cartoons and anything created exclusively for adults.
* WholePlotReference:
** The "[character] gets held back" videos play out pretty much like the WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButtHead episode "Held Back".
** The plot of some “(Character) Burns the House Down” videos is taken directly from the ''WebVideo/{{SuperMarioLogan}}'' episode, ''Junior’s House Fire''.
* WidgetSeries: Many videos involve this trope due to the limited movement range that the program offers. See MindScrew above for cases that can lead to confusion (though it's probably almost all of them).
* WilhelmScream: Surprisingly, although it's not a StockSoundEffect found in the program, this has been used in several videos, such as in a short to promote the now-cancelled sequel to ''[=GoAnimate=]: The Movie'' about PC Guy working at a movie theater, when a customer at the theater falls down.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: Caillou's relationship with his friends and Rosie, most notably. If Rosie and/or Caillou's friends aren't [[{{Jerkass}} against him from the start]], they'll get along well with him. But once Caillou steps out of line, well, [[YouAreGrounded you probably know the deal by now]].
* WondrousLadiesRoom: The basis of "(Male Character) Uses The Girls' Bathroom" videos is about a male troublemaker deciding to go to the female bathroom in school, either because he just decided to or because the male bathroom was unkempt and gross. Inverted in the rare videos where it's a female troublemaker going to the male bathroom instead.
* WorstAid: Seen in spades with numerous doctors and nurses in the grounded videos, whose methods of treating the other character's ills sometimes are often incredibly painful or the exact opposite of how you would treat such a thing. ([[AchievementsInIgnorance But somehow they almost always work]].) Quite often they are even shown doing major operations without any anesthetic, which sometimes makes the patient's condition worse. ([[TheScapegoat But the troublemaker is blamed for it rather than the doctors.]]) Sometimes they do this on purpose because the patient is someone they don't like or, occasionally, at the insistence of the troublemaker's parents as part of a Punishment Day.
* WorstNewsJudgmentEver: The recurring TV channel GNN News apparently has the most inexperienced news director in the world, as it spends most of its broadcast day reporting on all cases of children "engaging" their parents and destroying buildings (usually restaurants), as well as chastising parents to immediately ground their children for bomb threats and lockdowns. The former usually has the reporter and witnesses on-scene [[RepeatWhatYouJustSaid repeat what occurred]] during the "engagement" [[ShallIRepeatThat two or three times]], then has a studio interview where the "engaged" parent repeats the story '''[[ParrotExposition one more time]]''' while parading the child around to [[ComeToGawk shame them publicly]]. And this isn't even getting into GNN's inexplicable glee when reporting on child executions for troublemakers.
* WrongfulAccusationInsurance: In Grounded videos where a person is sent to jail, they will always break out of jail to get the person in trouble. They are never sent back.
* WouldHurtAChild: The adult characters (whether they're parents, police, or teachers) typically have no qualms about physically punishing kids, especially Caillou and Dora.
* YouAreGrounded: The whole point of grounded videos.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Trying to create some characters will make them look...really weird.
** Notable examples include the trains from ''WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends'' or ''WesternAnimation/{{Chuggington}}'', all animal characters from ''WesternAnimation/DoraTheExplorer'', and WesternAnimation/PeppaPig and her family.

* MadeOfIron: Many times, characters will survive injuries that by all means should have crippled them or even killed them, such as getting knocked off a very tall building, getting pulled in by a strong tornado, or getting hit by a flying school desk. Even if a character does wind up getting killed, their body almost always remains intact, even if there was a fire or explosion that contributed to their death.
** A particular example is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eRp_zbFWoc this video]], in which a character apparently ''[[OffWithHisHead gets his head knocked off by a flying school desk]]'' and survives, with only his vocal cords not working right.
* MadeOfPlasticine: On the other hand, sometimes characters will wind up severely injured, crippled, or killed from normally non-life-threatening injuries, even from innocuous ones like getting punched in the face or getting gassed by a stink bomb.
* MagicPlasticSurgery: A recurring element of the Grounded videos. Some videos have characters going to the hospital to get plastic surgery, or characters being punished by being forced to have plastic surgery. The changes can range anywhere from getting a different face and/or hairstyle, [[GenderBender changing genders]], changing character themes, changing from a kid to an adult (or vice versa), or just outright being turned into a completely different character altogether. Sometimes, these videos are used to explain sudden changes in character designs.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: When characters get injured severely, they often speak in a completely deadpan voice, even when expressing pain.
* MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext: Doesn't even ''begin'' to describe the various goings-on that occur in the grounded videos.
* {{Malaproper}}: Quite often. Many of the "Dora Gets Grounded" videos have her parents claiming that she's grounded for "tranquility".
* MaliciousMisnaming:
** The rants made with [=GoAnimate=] usually start with the user calling the subject of the rant a derogatory name, moslty in the form of: "(Subject)? More like (Derogatory name)!".
** Within the "Grounded" videos, this is one method of getting grounded in some videos. The troublemaker either calls someone or changes the name of something to a derogatory name, which leads them to [[YouAreGrounded a grounding]].
** The text-to-speech voices' infamous way of pronouncing Caillou's name becomes a form of this in some videos, where Boris knows how to pronounce Caillou's name, but will often switch when he realizes he's "on camera" and call him "Kaylew" or "K-I-U" on purpose, knowing how terrible it makes his son feel.
* {{Manchild}}: Sometimes, ''adult'' characters like celebrities are seen causing trouble and getting grounded by their parents.
* MassOhCrap: Tends to occur in many videos when a large amount of people are on the receiving end of a trouble-maker's wrath.
* {{Microtransactions}}: [=GoAnimate=] formerly had a currency known as [=GoBucks=], which allowed you to create new characters, and purchase props. It was retired on September 16, 2013, allowing users to create unlimited characters from that date onwards (the same date the former [=VoiceForge voices were updated=], leading to some users issuing "Old Voice Alerts" for voices that sounded similar to those before the update).
* MindScrew: Barely any videos made under [=GoAnimate=] make sense. Some are more nonsensical than others, but almost all of them involve at least some surreal aspects, especially due to the cheapness and limitations of the software. This is especially parodied in many satirical videos, such as those of [=NotSmirks=]; if Uolliac or a similar character is present in them, things are certainly going to get weird with a capital W.
* MisplacedRetribution:
** Been known to happen to some trouble-making characters when they are treated as a scapegoat for bad things that either happen around them or were the fault of others.
** Several "(Character) Misbehaves on the Way To (Movie)" have the characters somehow being unable to watch the movie for any sort of reason. The sole blame for this always placed on the naughty character of the day rather than the theater, which decided to take some sort of action to ensure that a single family wouldn't be able to watch the movie.
** In several "(Character) Causes a Car Crash" videos, the parent of the troublemaker takes their attention off the road so they can yell at them only to end up getting into a car crash. The troublemaker is blamed for the car crash even though it's the parents fault for taking their attention off the road.
** Sometimes all characters involved in a "Gets Held Back" video are given the blame for something only one of the trouble characters caused, even if they sat there and did nothing as the one character did it or even tried to stop them.
** Some "(Character) Gets A Job at (Place)" videos have the character dealing with one or more rowdy or unreasonable customers, who get mad at or confused by the lead character and cause a scene for any number of petty or ridiculous reasons (most typically because the customer does not have enough money for something on the menu they want, asks for something not offered at the restaurant (i.e. asking for a Big Mac at a Burger King), or attempts to place impossible orders like asking for two million cheeseburgers) before blowing their stack and leaving, declaring that they are going to a competitor's establishment. Without fail, [[BadBoss the manager]] will come over and blame ''the main character'' for the incidents, accuse them of driving away business and fire them rather than placing their retribution on the customer(s) for wasting the lead character's time and/or causing a scene. (This trope is averted in other videos of this type when it's clear that the lead character truly is at fault for the customers leaving.)
* MoodDissonance: Many of the Grounded videos tend to end with "Pomp and Circumstance" playing in the background as the character gets grounded.
* MoralDissonance:
** Characters can do whatever they want regardless if it's unlawful or has gotten someone grounded/arrested in the past as long as they're using it against the troublemaker.
** WrongfulAccusationInsurance is in full effect whenever someone gets someone else sent to jail; the wrongfully accused character will almost always break out of prison to blow the whistle on the actual troublemaker without having to face consequences for breaking out of jail and anything else they might have done.
** Sometimes one character will beat up, kill, or otherwise harm another character, only for them to be excused from doing so because it was a character the characters (and usually the user too) didn't like anyway.
* MoralMyopia: Most videos tend to treat the morality of a character's actions by whether they are a troublemaker or not. A character considered a troublemaker may do one certain action and get grounded for it, only for a non-troublemaker to do the same exact thing and without the action portrayed as wrong, if they aren't outright rewarded for it. This can lead to some ''huge'' cases of MoralDissonance when this isn't PlayedForLaughs.
* MortonsFork: Many Grounded videos will have the parents demand to know about what trouble they've caused or get punished, yet when they ''do'' fess up, they're still punished. Basically, they're damned if they do fess up and they're damned if they don't.
* MotorMouth:
** Evil Boris/Red Boris/Boris the Teeth Guy. Usually, his speech is full of expletives, extreme yelling and [[ClusterFBomb Cluster F-Bombs]] as well.

** Characters who get killed, turned into something or someone, badly injured, or otherwise as punishment also tend to quickly return looking none the worse for wear as well, though some users do provide explanations for some returns. [[StuffBlowingUp Blowing up a building]] can contribute here, [[CrazyPrepared as it is repaired in the next video]].
* NeverMyFault:
** In general, the troublemakers are often blamed for any misfortune that befalls their peers when it was their peers' own fault. Especially the parent characters.
** In the "(Character) Gets a Job At (Store/Restaurant)" videos, the central character gets a job, only to insult, confuse, or otherwise piss off or drive away every customer they meet while on the clock. When they get fired by the manager, typically the main character will see no fault in their behavior if if they don't outright blame the supposed "stupid idiots" they drove away in the first place.
* NeverSayDie: Averted ''big time''. Death is a much common thing to the Grounded videos, and can be used as a punishment to the character.
* NewBabyEpisode: This site has "X calls the baby stupid" videos. Most of these videos have a plot focusing on the birth of a baby, before the ''troublemaker'' calls the baby stupid, and gets [[YouAreGrounded grounded]].
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Often, various characters are shown to suddenly exhibit or have access to various superpowers, magic, or gadgets (such as a TransformationRay to transform a character, the ability to grow or shrink, the ability to shoot lasers from their hands or eyes, items from video games, or cloning machines) if the plot of the video requires them to, usually to never be seen or referred to again unless the plot of a later video requires it.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Some of the characters offered look... familiar.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Don't be surprised if a character is grounded, jailed or worse because they fessed up or they stopped something or performed some sort of kind action - they're still "baby show" characters and apparently deserving of punishments.
%%* NoIndoorVoice: The infamous "Kidaroo" voice that characters use when excessively angry.
* NoSympathy: Sometimes the parent characters will act incredibly callous toward their kids even when they are scared ("[[WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} Kay-lew]], stop crying like a baby.") or if the trouble the kid(s) caused resulted in them getting severely injured or left them in a MyGodWhatHaveIDone state.
* NotSoAboveItAll: The punishment-happy parents are far from immune to getting themselves in trouble and grounded.
* NudeColoredClothes: The site obviously has no way to render their characters nude or having sex, but some videomakers haven't let the site's intentional limitations stop them. They color the clothes characters are wearing in their flesh tones, and suddenly you're seeing stuff like Caillou walking in on his parents, who have [[LazyArtist dinner roll breasts and Band Aid genitalia]]; the most logical extreme is that a typical [=GoAnimate=] "sex scene" would consist of a man in a flesh-colored t-shirt and shorts wearing sandals wooing a woman wearing a flesh-colored Franchise/WonderWoman-like outfit. Others [[{{Pixellation}} mosaic the parts]], and do their best with the speech-to-text software to render what they think are lovemaking noises.
* ObligatorySwearing: Considering that the fanbase is mostly made up of kids who love adult cartoons, it almost really goes without saying. Many videos feature scenes where "baby show" characters curse like soldiers. It's especially funny if [[HypocriticalHumor they're told to stop swearing by another person who is]] ''[[HypocriticalHumor also swearing]]''. And that's just the kids; ''anyone'' can have a potty mouth in these videos. Even news anchors and reporters are fairly regularly shown peppering their live reports with f-bombs and s-bombs seemingly because they can, without consequence. (Which is hilarious considering that news reporters can and have been fired for doing so in real life.)
* OffTheTable: In "(Character) Misbehaves at (Store)" videos, a character will go on a destructive rampage when they are unable to get an item they want and are offered an inferior replacement. When they're dragged away and punished, they try to get the offered item instead, but are told that it's too late now. Usually, this is because they just destroyed the place the item was at.
* OneHourWorkWeek: Some videomakers forget to scale time, so you can have a 'Good morning, class!' greeting from the teacher somehow lead into a 'let's go to lunch!' call ten seconds later.
* OnlySaneMan: {{Deconstructed}}. There are many videos where the grounder will try to justify their abuse of the kids because it keeps them in line, believing that they're always evil for any reason and they must be kept in line. [[ShutUpHannibal Their reasonings are usually thrown back in their faces]] and they're usually given punishments themselves.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Moments where a parent character [[JerkassRealization realizes that they are going too far in their groundings/retribution of their kids]] tend to be examples of this trope.

Said OS is pretty much always crummy, with all the features being made to annoy the user, who later uses a [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "kill" option]] to remove the OS or [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere annoys the troublemaker controlling the OS to the point of them letting the user have their original OS back.]]
* OverlyLongGag:
** "You are grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded for [ridiculously large number] years". Sometimes characters can spend up to over a minute just saying numbers. Sometimes the character will follow that with a ridiculously long list of oddly specific things the grounded character is not allowed to do. In other videos, the character will rattle off a massive list of television shows that the grounded character will be forced to watch.
** There are also grounded videos which have multiple troublemakers, sometimes up to a dozen. Some of them decide to show each individual character screaming "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO" when an authority figure calls their parents, and then having each and every character getting a near identical lecture from their parents about how they're "GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED GROUNDED FOR 875405420958209930248 YEARS".
** Warren Cook videos seem to consist of Slippy V, his classmates Warren's teachers, random people from the street and fictional characters delivering 30-50 repetitive TheReasonYouSuck speeches and punishments to the point where Warren just tells them to wrap it up and just let him get to the punishments already...only to get told he'll get more punishments for 'backtalking'.
** The average "behaviour card day" video will involve dozens of characters receiving behaviour cards, and then telling the teacher one by one what colour card they got and receiving their corresponding punishment/reward. These videos can sometimes stretch into the ''hours''.

It's especially noticeable in the Caillou videos, where Rosie is often treated like a queen by Boris and Doris, while they only acknowledge Caillou's existence when he gets in trouble, ([[AbusiveParents if they don't just outright hate him for existing]]).
* ParrotExposition: Some "(Character) Misbehaves at (Place)" videos can become tedious to watch as the characters will recap the naughty character's actions at least once or twice as they drive home from the damaged establishment, and more times if the video includes a news report on the troublemaker throwing a fit, engaging their parent, and wrecking the place.
* PerpetualFrowner: It's possible to make the characters this if you set them to always be crying. Uolliac is almost always crying in videos starring him, and [=NotSmirks=]'s AuthorAvatar is often ([[DownplayedTrope but not always]]) crying in his videos.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: You could make a case for the troublemakers who are children, as they are able to put up a fight with people twice their size and single-handedly destroy large buildings during their tantrums.
* PlayingSick: The plots of "Character Fakes Sick" videos have the main character doing this to prevent going to school. They don't get away with it though.
* PoliceAreUseless: The police in the Grounded videos seem to have something of a HairTriggerTemper, as they will instantly peg a character with jail time for littering if they so much as walk up to a piece of paper on the ground. Other times, they just outright arrest people for little to no reason or show a bias towards the trouble-making kids' parents (or anyone ''but'' the trouble-makers for that matter), sometimes even arresting the kids just for talking to them. Outside of that, the police will instantly come to arrest someone if they are simply asked to without complaint, even if they are being called to arrest a kid for smashing their sibling's [=iPod=].
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: In various videos, the main troublemaker is shown to be bigoted against even their closest friends.
* PottyEmergency:
** In "Characters Poops His/Her Nappy" videos has this happen to the main character of the video, only to [[PottyFailure poop]] [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin themselves]] because of somebody else in the restroom.
** "Character Poops On The Teacher" videos have the troublemaker of the day having to go whilst in class, but their teacher won't let them go. The troublemaker solves the problem by [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin defecating on the aforementioned teacher.]] However, in many cases the student even does it when he's allowed to go.
** Certain videos have this happen to a character while they are hanging at somebody's house. They rush to the bathroom, but another person is in there[[note]]Sometimes they are not even doing anything in the bathroom but just standing there[[/note]], and the character poops/pees himself.
* PottyFailure:
** The point of "(Character) Poops His/Her Nappy and Gets Grounded" is having the main troublemaker soil their pants, usually when somebody else in the bathroom at the time.
** One plot used in some videos is a character being invited over to someone's house, only to suddenly have to use the bathroom. The character runs to the bathroom but find someone else inside (who is sometimes not even doing anything but stand there), and winds up making a huge mess on the floor before they can be given privacy.
** The plot of "Character Poops In The Cinema" videos has the protagonist defecating themselves while in a movie theater.
* ThePrankster: The troublemaking characters often misbehave as a prank. Common pranks for them include tricking the other students into thinking the school is on lockdown and selling poop instead of chocolate.
* PrisonEpisode: Characters are often sent to prison...
** When a bad user false flags an innocent user on Website/YouTube.
** When they kill a cartoon character that person hated (Such as killing a Disney character like Franchise/WinnieThePooh)
** For littering things on the road.
** For destroying a property.
* ProtagonistCenteredMorality: This trope runs so rampant in the grounded videos it would probably be easier to list grounded videos where this trope ''isn't'' in effect in some way. Generally speaking, though, if a designated trouble-maker or a "baby show character" does something horrible or stupid like, say, defecate on a teacher at school or beat up a classmate, this is portrayed as wrong and the character will get grounded. However, if someone who ''isn't'' a trouble-maker/baby show character does the same exact thing to an actual trouble-maker/baby show character (even for no reason at all), this is portrayed as justified or an SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome and the character will be rewarded for stooping down to the trouble-maker's level.
* PyrrhicVictory: Sometimes a character will successfully get out of having to do something they don't like ever again...but that's because they are now grounded and are not allowed to do it (or anything else) anyway. Cases of this are seldom acknowledged in the video itself outside of the occasional LampshadeHanging.
* RandomEventsPlot: Several longer videos don't make much sense, and are mostly just montages of characters repeatedly getting grounded. Special mention goes to ''[=GoAnimate=]: The Movie'', which has a completely incomprehensible plot (though this is because it's a ripoff of ''Greeny Phatom: The Movie,'' and that series is know for being FILLED with these).
* RapidFireNo: Most frequently yelled by someone right before a trouble-maker does something terrible to them. It's also been known to be yelled by a grounded character as they run to their room.
* RecursiveReality:
** [=GoAnimate=]/Vyond is often shown to exist within the grounded videos and the kid characters are often shown to enjoy making grounded videos with it.
** The existing TV show characters are sometimes shown watching their own shows on TV or talking about wanting to watch them. This is often given the explanation that they [[AnimatedActors film the show in-universe]] and like watching themselves work, but other times their TV shows just seem to exist in-universe with no explanation for it.
* ReadTheFinePrint: In the joining conditions if you are going to use the site to make your own projects.
* RejectedApology: No matter how much they beg, the troublemakers will never be forgiven for any misdemeanor or accident they cause even if they seem genuinely remorseful over their actions. Justified when they caused mass hysteria or property damage or the trouble was caused out of genuine malice. Somewhat less so when the trouble they caused was an accident or was something as simple as breaking a lamp. Cases of the latter often result in the parent/friend characters coming off as [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic needlessly callous and/or unreasonable]].
* RougeAnglesOfSatin: Again, many of the users are little kids, so grammatical errors can be expected.
* RuleOfThree: If "grounded" doesn't become an OverlyLongGag for a parent, chances are that it'll be just "grounded, grounded, grounded" instead.
* RummageSaleReject: Many [[AuthorAvatar self-insert characters]] often wear bright, clashing colors and several accessories, regardless of whether or not they suit the character. It's so commonplace that it's regularly parodied in {{Deconstruction}} videos.
* RevengeFic:
** The more vitriolic "Grounded" videos aimed at Caillou, Dora, and other such characters can be described as this. Often the only reason given for targeting them is just because "[[BecauseISaidSo they suck]]" and they're "baby show" characters. The only reason the videos don't go straight into HateFic territory is because the other characters from the targeted character's show rarely are targeted along with them. (In fact, Caillou's Dad/Boris seems to be something of an EnsembleDarkhorse among the non-ironic fanbase.)
** Speaking of Boris, folks who dislike the [=GoAnimator's=] common interpretation of the character (a character who is apparently intended to be a MemeticBadass who heroically puts Caillou in his place, but comes off more like an AxCrazy psychopath who torments Caillou if the latter so much as moves) often vent their frustrations with videos of Boris either getting [[CallingTheOldManOut called out for his actions]], grounded, or otherwise punished. The reasons here tend to be [[DisproportionateRetribution far-and-away]] [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality more]] [[DesignatedHero justified]] than a simple "he sucks". Other parent characters (particularly Caillou's Mom/Doris and Warren Cook's dad) often get subjected to this for similar reasons as well.

** Parent characters absolutely explode with volcanic rage when they find out their children have misbehaved, often with a [[VoiceOfTheLegion demonic, deepened voice]]. The screen sometimes shakes and/or turns red during their outbursts.
** Not that their kids are any better. Many videos have kids either talking in the "Kidaroo" voice, the screen turning red, [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever inexplicably growing enormous]], or [[UnstoppableRage going on a rampage]] (though usually all four at once) when they don't get their way. This is especially common in "(Character) Misbehaves at (Restaurant/Store)" videos when the kids flip out when their order can't be filled ''exactly'' how they want it or their parents say no to what they want.
* HeldBackInSchool: This trope is the main plot of a category of "Grounded" videos, wherein some students (usually two) start out in the 12th grade and proceed to knock themselves down all the way back to preschool by getting themselves in trouble via injuring a classmate or teacher, being disruptive, making messes, merely making someone mad, etc. before being expelled and sent home ([[OncePerEpisode with]] [[YouAreGrounded predictable results]]). * HeelFaceTurn: Some deconstruction videos involving the Caillou Gets Grounded videos have Doris finally having enough and siding with Caillou when either Boris finally goes off the deep end or Caillou finally calls his parents out on their actions. Very rarely, this happens to Boris as well, but most of the time [[ItIsBeyondSaving he's far beyond saving]].
* HeroAntagonist: The parent characters, as well as everyone else who isn't the current troublemaker. (How heroic they actually are, however, [[DesignatedHero is up for debate]].)
* HighPressureBlood[=/=]OverdrawnAtTheBloodBank: Some videos have blood go flying everywhere when characters even get slightly injured.
* HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood: Every character has or had childhoods with very severe punishments that would be abusive in real life but is played as a joke here.
* HollywoodHealing: Usually averted, sometimes to the point of exaggeration. Sometimes characters will be told that they won't be completely healed up for anywhere between one year to the rest of their lifetime from just breaking their leg.
* HostileWeather: ''Really'' Hostile Weather. Tornadoes are usually the order of the day, and they are, of course, almost always rank [=EF5=] in the Enhanced Fujita scale.
* HulkingOut: A recurring element in Grounded videos is characters having foul-mouthed and excessively violent "Red/Teeth" counterparts that they turn into when sufficiently enraged. Caillou's Dad aka. Boris is one of the most notable characters to have one of these.
* HumiliationConga: Some "Grounded" videos go beyond just the trouble-making kids/teens getting grounded and [[CoolAndUnusualPunishment have all manner of punishments]] given to them. Sequences (or even entire videos) centered around these are usually referred to as "Punishment Days" by the users.
* IAteWhat: Most characters when they drink lemonade (actually the troublemaker's pee) in "Character Makes a 'Lemonade' Stand" videos. "Sells 'Chocolate'" is essentially the same thing, just with the chocolate actually being the troublemaker's own excrement.
* IHaveNoSon: Many Caillou videos tend to have his parents favor Rosie heavily, to the point where their dad will be distraught over the idea of Rosie turning against him.
* IdiotBall: At times, the troublemaker(s) may act like a DevilInPlainSight in front of their parents or teachers, but the parents ignore them until the troublemaker(s) carry out whatever their planned dirty deed was.
* ImYourBiggestFan:
** This is one of the reasons why a character will get punished -- they'll be badmouthing or attacking something or someone when the grounder arrives and is angry because they're either a fan of their work or they're their best friend.
** This can also be inverted in some videos, wherein characters get grounded for hanging out with a character/celebrity the grounder hates, or also for watching a TV show/movie or playing a video game the grounder hates.
* ImAHumanitarian: There's a series of "Grounded" videos involving the troublemaker of the day standing out on the street and "[[SpecialEffectsFailure eating]]" people who walk up to them. Likewise, naughty folks may be eaten by another person (usually their parents) as punishment.
* ImplausibleDeniability: Many "(Character) Gets (X amount of) Jobs" involve the main character getting jobs at various workplaces seemingly solely only to tell potential or present patrons that the store/restaurant is out of the thing the patron is ''specifically'' asking for despite blatant proof that the item is available. Typically, the main character will either make up excuses for why the item is still there (such as the menus at a restaurant being outdated, the items at a grocery store being fake display items, or even resorting to flat-out InsaneTrollLogic) or [[GetOut simply run the customer out of the store]] when proven wrong.
* IncendiaryExponent: How a Great Wolf Lodge gets burned down in most "(Character) Misbehaves at Great Wolf Lodge" videos; by way of the character inexplicably setting a skee-ball machine on fire just by punching it a single time.
* InherentlyFunnyWords: Almost certainly why "nappy/nappies", a slang term for diapers that's more commonly used in Britain, sees universal use among grounded video makers. (Even in American-made grounded videos when the term is far less commonly used in America.)
* InstantEmergencyResponse: In some videos such as [[https://youtu.be/_wEyeK2XOLA this one]] where someone dials for emergency services, expect them to take at most 5 seconds to arrive. Apparently the emergency response time is just that good in the [=GoAnimate=] world.
* ItAmusedMe: One of the most typical answers given by the troublemaker when asked why they did such-and-such naughty thing.
* {{Jerkass}}: Nearly if not ''everyone'' in the Grounded videos is this is some way, some moreso than others.
** On one end, you have the troublemakers, all of whom are intended to be this way. Most of the time, the trouble-makers who truly fall under this trope cause mass mayhem simply for the amusement factor or for very petty reasons. Most of them come with a HairTriggerTemper which often results in them going on a rampage, often while swearing like a sailor. However, a good number of them are arguably [[JerkassWoobie Jerkass Woobies]] who act out because of abuse from their peers.
** ...Which leads into the next point: Practically everyone who ''isn't'' the troublemaker. They (especially the parent characters) go to absurd lengths to teach troublemakers a lesson, to the point that they can become [[DesignatedHero Designated Heroes]]. Even then, sometimes they don't even have to be punishing the kids in order to become this, as some videos will have the "good guys" being terrible to the trouble-makers without any provocation from the trouble-makers' end. Other times, they have parties or go on trips to Chuck E. Cheese's, Six Flags, or Disney World and exclude the troublemakers. In this case, though, it's usually because of previous wrong-doings, but there are numerous times where it's just out of spite. They also refuse to forgive the troublemakers even if the troublemaker of the day seems to be genuinely remorseful over what they did and if it was just a petty slight like hitting someone at school.
** The users themselves can become this if someone ticks them off sufficiently, if word gets around that someone's opinion is being disrespected, or if someone does something that they don't approve of. (As mentioned before, Warren Cook learned this the hard way.)
* JerkassBall: Some videos show the trouble-maker of the day being for all intents and purposes a well-behaved kid, only to suddenly turn malicious and cause the misdemeanor that will get them grounded for seemingly no reason.
* JokerJury: In most "(troublemaker) Gets Executed/Gets Sent to Jail" videos, the jury is made up of the [[AbusiveParents parents]], [[SadistTeacher teachers]], [[WithFriendsLikeThese colleagues and friends]] of the troublemaker, most of whom are simply there to add salt to the troublemaker's wound, rather than using real evidence.
* KafkaKomedy: This trope is present in ''a lot'' of videos. Characters can act like angels throughout the whole video, do something heroic, and/or even not be the one who caused trouble in the first place, and still wind up grounded at the end because reasons.
* KangarooCourt:
** Justice in the world of the grounded videos is usually rendered by very partial judges and a JokerJury who shrug off the defendant's side of the story (consisting in most cases of the troublemaker's family, teachers and friends, who are biased against them anyway) and give them cruel and unusual punishments, even for small fine-earning offenses such as littering. Often though, [=GoAnimate=] justice never gets to the courtroom as the patrolman (usually rendered as ill-tempered with fire coming out of his head) will render a life prison sentence for the accused right on the scene. Trillion-dollar fines the size of the national debt of several G8 nations combined are also assessed to parents, and they will be executed if payment is not immediately given.
** It can also apply that in the world of grounded videos, the justice system doesn't even bother with doing anything with offenders. While most of the illegal activities troublemakers get into would assure them juvenile detention (this isn't even considering any murders in the videos), cops will just give the child back to the parents and merely demand they give the child a long grounding period and allow any corporal punishment without law enforcement action they desire. Also, because of the continuing loop nature of grounding videos, children can go back to school and rack up multiple expulsions (an usually permanent end to a child's education given '''once''') because actually enforcing them would mean a user would have to change their character sets with each new video.
* KarmaHoudini: Non-troublemaking characters seem to get a free pass on tormenting the troublemakers or using any means necessary to bust them. Especially in the case of Boris, who's often portrayed as an AxCrazy sociopath but never gets in trouble, even when he clearly deserves to be punished more than Caillou does.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty:
** A common theme in the {{Deconstruction}} videos (and some standard grounded videos when a non-ironic member of the fanbase [[ThrowTheDogABone decides to give a troublemaker a break]]) is the bad habits of the parent characters and other characters (''especially'' the aforementioned and widely disliked Boris) coming back to haunt them. The usual way of this occurring is the troublemaker [[TheDogBitesBack deciding they've had enough and fighting back]] against their AbusiveParents, either by grounding them or giving them a Punishment Day and then getting them arrested. Boris is usually shown to not take this happening to him very well, and sometimes may undergo a VillainousBreakdown, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq4wzY4ga9U such as seen here]].
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9tnTbVQPAE this video]], Derek is informed by his father that he received a phone call from the school's principal who discovered he has been getting Zack in trouble by looking at the security footage, and he gets grounded for it. He later insults his sister who laughs at his misfortune, and gets grounded for another 20 months.
* KarmicButtMonkey: Whenever a troublemaker causes some kind of mischief, destruction, or chaos, they will ''[[CantGetAwayWithNuthin always]]'' be punished for it. They'll either be [[GroundedForever grounded for a ridiculously long time]] and/or receive [[HumiliationConga "Punishment Days"]] from their [[AbusiveParents parents]].
* KickTheDog: As if the execution videos weren't [[MoralEventHorizon cruel]] [[DisproportionateRetribution enough]] [[KangarooCourt already,]] most of the time the condemned's parents will visit them ''just to insult them, ground them, and tell them that they hope they suffer when they die, then celebrate at their funeral.'' Even in conventional grounding videos, at times the punishments can come off as needlessly cruel.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: Ostensibly, you're supposed to feel bad for Boris whenever Caillou or someone else does something bad to him, but given that Boris is frequently characterized as an abusive psychopath, it comes off more like [[KarmaHoudini Boris]] getting some well-deserved retribution for making Caillou and everyone else miserable.
* KidsAreCruel: Certainly an aspect of many of the grounded videos, as the kid characters will pull dangerous or even deadly pranks (or sometimes, not even needing to be pranksters and just be malicious) ForTheEvulz.
* KidsPunishingParents: Sometimes a troublemaker will get back at their parent for grounding them for petty reasons by giving them a Punishment Day. However, the parent often won't let them get away with this and they'll punish them afterwards.
** There have been many videos in which the troublemaker is a parent. In such videos, the one who grounds the parent is often the child or spouse.
* KitschyLocalCommercial:
** The cheap international calling outfit Reliance [=GlobalCall=] has aired very [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXtYSyNNQic low-cost ads made in]] [=GoAnimate=], main business theme character, voices and all, and aired them on the American cable network Willow, which airs UsefulNotes/{{Cricket}} 24/7. The "Mr. Patel" ad has since gained the nickname of "Mr. Patel finds hidden charges on his phone bill and gets grounded"
** The "HGTV stars" behind a house flipping {{Infomercial}} ([[https://www.bbb.org/stlouis/news-events/bbb-warnings/2016/06/bbb-warning-on-visionary-events/ these guys, from a BBB article advising against investing with them]]) [[https://vimeo.com/282328650 rendered themselves into a cringe-heavy]] [=GoAnimate=] segment (starts at 0:55) that aired as part of the infomercial; unlike most people they paid the extra money to keep the [=GoAnimate=] watermark off-screen.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiyE2m1avwY One ad for Mecko's Heating and Cooling]] had it's founder Dave Mecklenburg rendered in [=GoAnimate=]
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** This trope tends to go hand-in-hand with KarmaHoudini, as a "Character A" may get in trouble for something they did, but if a "Character B" did something even worse, they usually get away scot-free. This is particularly shown in videos where someone gets arrested: the character who's imprisoned will easily break out and call out the real guilty party, but they won't get in trouble for escaping prison.
** In the "Pours Rat Poison on the School Lunch" videos, the troublemaker is forced to eat the leftover of the school lunch they tainted with rat poison, with the ultimatum of getting grounded even longer if they refuse to do so. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_vpodzdqWo For example, Dora's karma is being filmed eating the school lunch she tainted with rat poison.]]
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall:
** Someone may mention their voice changing to something when they're sick, or have their voice changed as a punishment.
** On a similar note to voices, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iiZ6T9fRN4 this video]] announces at the beginning that the main character had to change their voice because of [=GoAnimate=] removing several voices from their system.
* LeaveTheCameraRunning: Some grounded videos end with the troublemaker's parents staring directly into the camera with angry expressions.
* LifeEmbellished: ''Super Rica and Rashy'' was based on Dini himself (and his wife, stage magician Misty Lee), and their sock monkeys.
* LimitedAnimation: Due to the limitations of the website, animation comes off as Creator/HannaBarbera in flash.
** Specifically, the "Bodyguard" character has an animation that shows him flexing his pecs. The animation is also used when he is angry, as well as dancing.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The Grounded videos, in general, have a wide amount of characters (both from the well-known to the obscure) used in them.
** "X Gets in Dead Meat" videos can be this depending on how many characters are shown receiving behavior cards. One video can potentially have between twelve or twenty different characters (and cards) in it, if not more.
* LosingYourHead: A lot of [=GoAnimate=] characters seem to be capable of going without their head without harm, whether it's going headless to school for cheap laughs, scaring people by walking around without a head, or even being punished by having their head removed. Often, they're even still capable of speaking.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** Those who watched many grounded videos who end up watching older videos made with [=GoAnimate=] will wonder why ''WesternAnimation/{{Underdog}}'' and B-movie monsters are featured alongside the standard Comedy World-created characters, and may also ask what ''Super Rica and Rashy'' even is.
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y9QZ7T-eaQ first ever grounded video]] has a much fairer punishment for the troublemaker (he's merely banned from TV for two weeks and from attending a friend's birthday party). The reason it happens is also more understandable, namely that he back talked to his teacher, and he's readmitted and unpunished after he apologizes to the principal.
* EasilyForgiven: Averted, at some points. Apologizing doesn't mean that the troublemaker helps them escape their problems, as their parents find it useless and unacceptable enough.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: The "[Character] Gets Sent Away" videos sometimes act as series finales for various 'grounding series'. The character gets, well, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin sent away]] to an unpleasant place for acting out, but rather than go through with their punishment they start a new life somewhere else with their friends.
* EldritchLocation: The "Audience." [[ItMakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext We assume,]] considering that being sent there is considered the grand finale of several [[CoolAndUnusualPunishment "punishment days."]]
* EncyclopaedicKnowledge: For someone who doesn't seem to be a film buff by any means, Warren Cook's father Alan '''always''' seems to know the exact release year and releasing studio of every film to stymie Warren's attempts at false VHS openings, even for the most unheard-of films.
* EnfantTerrible: At the end of the day, nearly all of the troublesome kids are intended to be evil, albeit with varying levels of success. There are a few kids who are genuinely villainous or at least just immense [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkasses]], however.
* EntertainmentAboveTheirAge:
** In various videos, the troublemaker-of-the-day (who is normally an EnfantTerrible) wants to see a movie for adults, so they'll sneak into a theater to watch it, only to get busted by their parents.
** Sometimes, a troublemaker watches some adult show (i.e. ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'') and their parent comes in, shuts off the TV, and promptly grounds them for it.
** Zigzagged in "(Character) Brings an NC-17 Rated Film to School" videos. Sometimes the [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin character who brings an NC-17 rated movie to school]] has a VagueAge or is an adult who's still in school, but they're often a child. In those same videos, another classmate will bring an R-rated or PG-13 rated film for Movie Day, resulting in them getting a warning or being sent to detention (or worse).
* EverythingExplodesEnding: It's not unheard of for a grounded video to end this way, usually thanks to the actions of a troublemaker. In particular, most "(Character) Misbehaves at (Restaurant/Store/Great Wolf Lodge)" videos end with the building "exploding" after the troublemaker throws their tantrum.
* EvilCounterpart:
** Boris the Teeth Guy (when portrayed as a separate character to Boris), a rude and psychopathic red-skinned duplicate of Boris with a ''huge'' mouth and eyes who somehow manages to be worse than Boris himself.
** Not to be outdone, there are many "evil" versions of baby show characters who are either there because the creator either hates the "good" version of the character so that they can have a good character for the troublemaker to mess with or if they like the "good" character, they just use it because they're running out of characters to ground. Surprisingly, the more popular grounding victims rarely get "evil versions", mainly because people tend to make videos of the popular characters for entertainment, while more minor ones like Pingu and Strawberry Shortcake [[BecauseISaidSo for spite against the show]].
* EvilLaugh: Even if the target character is doing something nice, they'll always do a laugh.
* EvilKnockoff: The original Dora the Explorer design for [=GoAnimate=] videos is referred to as this, calling her "Fake Dora".
* EvilTeacher:
** Seen in spades with every teacher, including the principal, seen in regular grounding videos. Most (if not, all) are seen as being a [[HairTriggerTemper Hair-Trigger Tempered]] {{Jerkass}} who hates the troublemaker's guts, and hand out over-the-top punishments for even the most simplest matters.
** Miss Martin gets the worst of this, however. She's simply a gender-swapped version of Boris with all the amount of disgust and hatred as him. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP9CX4iwlDw This video]] has her expell Caillou for no apparent reason, only for LaserGuidedKarma to [[TakeThatScrappy hit her hard]] when Clementine's mother [[FiredTeacher fires her]].
* EvilVersusEvil: Although many of the grounding victims [[AssholeVictim tend to have it coming]], the fact that in some of the more sadistic videos, their parents may go to some rather extreme measures in punishing them (sometimes they'll even ''kill'' the troublemaker) and, in some cases, [[AbusiveParents even enjoy punishing the kids or celebrate their groundings]], can make it difficult to take sides with anyone.
* ExcrementStatement:
** Bobbyispoopy loves to poop on everyone he comes across.
** The basis of "Character Poops On The Teacher" videos have the main protagonist defecating on the teacher when the latter won't let them go to the bathroom.
** "Character Pees On The Teacher" videos are the same thing as the above example except for urinating instead of pooping on the teacher.
** "Character Poops On Character" videos. Enough said.
** Uolliac enjoys pooping on everybody.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Almost every grounded video is titled in this format: "X Does Y (And Gets Grounded)."
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption:
** Outside of the rare occasion where they get [[ThrowTheDogABone thrown a bone]] for it, Caillou, Dora, or others of their ilk will always be grounded for some contrived reason no matter how good they are.
** The parent characters will often see their kid's misbehavior coming and attempt to prevent a tantrum or mental breakdown or repeatedly say no to a kid demanding something. Nine times out of ten, though, the parent characters cave into their kids demands when they won't shut up or are unsuccessful in preventing their kid from throwing a fit.
* FalseFlagOperation: When a bad user false flags an innocent user's video on Website/YouTube and giving them a community guideline strike, they get arrested and goes to jail.
* FantasticRacism: Some of the more sadistic videos have folks considered to be "baby show" characters be hated by their peers so much it could almost be called this.
* FantasticSlur: Being called a "bad user" or an "opinion disrespector" is probably the most heinous insult in the [=GoAnimate=]/Vyond community. "Baby show lover" comes up frequently as well.
* FatComicRelief:
** There are many videos where a troublemaker [[ArtisticLicenceBiology will eat a overwhelmingly large amount of food in one sitting]] and [[TemporaryBulkChange suddenly get morbidly obese]] as a result, then the parent will then find out and ground them, and maybe everyone else in the video will make fun of them for being fat.
** The character may also be fat from the start where [[ArtisticLicensePhysics somehow]] the character's weight will cause disaster like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqRlVQ0bsdw this.]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: Being grounded or getting a Punishment Day is often treated as a worse punishment than getting arrested or executed, and a standard insult hurled by trouble-making peers on the news is "I hope (character) gets grounded by their parents./(Character's Parents)? could you please ground them?" regardless of how terrible the character's actions were. By all accounts it kind of makes sense, considering the long grounding times and the ludicrous level of removed privileges.
* FelonyMisdemeanor:
** The [=GoAnimate=] community wanted to ''kill'' a {{troll}} called Warren Cook for ''[[DisproportionateRetribution making fake VHS openings.]]''
** Same for another troll named [=Memy9909=] for allegedly trolling another user named Baxter - though what Memy did to Baxter can be justified as Baxter was a example of SmallNameBigEgo as some users ''considered him a king''.
** Not only that, but in a lot of the videos where someone gets arrested, they get sent to jail (often for long periods of time and without a fair trial) over crimes like littering a single hamburger (or even walking up to a littered hamburger).
** No matter how minor the mistake or trouble a person causes, they will always be grounded for a ludicrously long time, even if someone just accidentally pushed someone else over or broke something.
** This is particularly evident in "[[HeldBackInSchool (Character) Gets Held Back]]" videos, where even the slightest things will result in [[HairTriggerTemper setting a teacher off]] and the student immediately being knocked back a grade at the first offense. This includes such trivial or petty things such as talking in class, having sodas with their lunches, or even getting a single math problem wrong.
** Parodied in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbDxRFoe-_0 this video]] by [=NotSmirks=] where Warren Cook's dad calls the police to arrest Warren when he finds out Warren made fanfiction out of himself and "[[RougeAnglesOfSatin babby]]".

** Founder Alvin Hung has gotten death threats from the site's users after [=GoPlus=] and many of the site's most popular themes were removed. Once the main site finally made the transition to a full-on business animation site, the site saw an increase in hatred towards Alvin before [=GoAnimate=] For Schools was finally upgraded to efficiently remove Flash-made themes. However, people still hold grudges against Alvin for this.
* {{Flanderization}}:
** A notable example in many videos is Boris himself. Take Isaac Anderson's depiction of him, for example - Solely over time, his violent AxCrazy tendencies started to dominate most of his character to an absurd degree, to the point that it has set the normal standard for Boris' depiction in many videos inspired by Anderson (especially in {{Deconstruction}} videos involving Caillou's nuclear family). Ironically averted by his "teeth guy" counterpart, who has always been like this.
** For characterizations in the Grounded videos themselves, early on in the history of the Grounded videos, most of the parent characters simply gave the extra long grounded times and called it a wrap. Very rarely were they actually violent when punishing the kids, and sometimes they actually did seem to not like having to punish the kids or just acted extremely disappointed rather than angry. Many later videos, however, saw all of these aspects get inflated to ridiculous proportions: Now you really have to search for recent videos that ''don't'' have the trouble-makers violently attacked by their parents for their wrong-doings, that ''don't'' have the parents act borderline sociopathic, absurdly strict, and/or AxCrazy, that ''don't'' have the parent characters fly off the handle at the slightest offense or actually act glad to punish the kids if they don't just outright hate them. For this, we can probably thank users like Isaac Anderson (who invented the concept of "[[HumiliationConga Punishment Day]]" in the Grounded videos) and certain other users whose BlackComedy takes on the Grounded genre were adopted by many other Grounded video makers.
* FlatJoy: Due to the voices not having much emotion, the characters will speak in a flat tone of voice even when they're excited or happy.

* TheFoodPoisoningIncident: In the "X Fakes a School Lockdown" videos, the principal is usually sick from having eaten spoiled takeaways for breakfast, to explain why they're not in the office.

* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: A few videos have characters in the video attempt to ground or rant at the users for whatever reason.
* FreakOut: Most "(Character) Fakes a School Lockdown" videos often have one or more students go beyond panicking to just outright having complete nervous/mental breakdowns during the faked lockdown, to the point they either injure themselves, get PTSD, or just go completely crazy and have to go to the mental ward for the rest of their life. This usually happens just to rub the consequences of the trouble-maker's actions in their face even more than they already are.
* FreakyFridayFlip: Evidently, body swapping in the [=GoAnimate=]/Vyond universe is not allowed, as many videos can tell you. Most commonly, the swap is between a parent and a trouble-making kid, and you really have to search for ones that involve any other participants of a swap.
* FreudianExcuse:
** Some videos (whether they are a deconstruction or not) have the parent characters give an explanation as to why they're so harsh on their kids when they get in trouble. For example, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDaQ0ewcxaA here]], where, after calling out his parents and getting them sent to jail, Caillou asks Boris and Doris why they are always so harsh on him and ground him for the most trivial of reasons. Doris then explains how her own parents always grounded her for ridiculous reasons (such as when she innocently told her father about how she wanted her own TV show) when she was a kid herself. [[StartOfDarkness It was then that she swore to do the same thing to her kids when she grew up, apparently so they would know her pain]]. Caillou (appropriately) rejects her flimsy excuse, gives them both a short TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere and leaves them for good]].
** In somewhat of a meta-example, a common AlternateCharacterInterpretation of many of the kids (especially Caillou and Dora) are that the only reason they act out so much is because of the abuse of their family and friends, something that is often thrown back into the latter group's face in the {{Deconstruction}} videos.
* FunWithFlushing: Videos that involve people getting flushed down the toilet (whether it's someone getting flushed down the toilet by a trouble-maker, or the trouble-maker being flushed down the toilet as a punishment) are fairly common.
* FountainOfYouth: A now-deleted [=CalebComedian=] video had Ako turned back into a child by the troublemaker.
* GenderBender: A common punishment given to the troublemakers is to have their sex changed via MagicPlasticSurgery in the "X gets his/her gender swapped" videos. It is also common to have troublemakers get grounded because they inflicted this trope onto someone else. (Whether by turning them into merely a gender-flipped version of themselves or turning them into a random person/fictional character that happens to be the opposite gender of the character being transformed.)
* GenreDeconstruction: Some videos serve as a deconstruction of the "Grounded" aspect. They tend to focus on Caillou's dad's OnlySaneMan and DisproportionateRetribution attitudes, essentially calling him out on his random punishments and reasonings as to why he does so.
* GetOutOfJailFreeCard: When any troublemaker is sentenced to prison, no matter how much time they spent there, they are guaranteed to be let out of the prison like nothing ever happened and without explanation in a succeeding video.
* GISSyndrome: It's not uncommon for users to insert familiar characters into the [=GoAnimate=]/Vyond setting via stock images of them from off the internet. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rk6tYqjj83g Here's one such example of this]].
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: Thanks to there not being animations for the characters to punch, throw things, or whatnot, the characters' animation for pointing ahead is often used in place of those and many other actions (and often adds to the hilarity as a result).
* GoToYourRoom: After a troublemaker gets [[YouAreGrounded grounded grounded grounded]], their parents tell them to go to their room.
* GoneHorriblyWrong[=/=][[GoneHorriblyRight Right]]: Countless times have the schemes of the naughty kids blown up in their faces because of things they didn't anticipate.
* GoodIsNotNice: Anyone who isn't the person currently getting in trouble and grounded. This is more evident in the more sadistic grounding videos where the troublesome character is beaten up or murdered by their family and friends for their actions, or "Punishment Day" sequences with more severe (and less [[CrossesTheLineTwice humorous]]) punishments.
* GooGooGetup: Characters are often made to wear diapers as punishment.
* GoshDarnItToHeck: Profanity is often replaced with minced oaths. Justified, as much of the community is composed of children who share their computers with relatives. Not that this stops some people though. See ObligatorySwearing below.
* GreekChorus: Parodied; a handful of (mostly satirical) videos have the events of the video commented on by a {{Gonk}}ish character sitting at a computer (who seems to only be a head wearing a baseball cap) who takes some random issue with it. ([[ThisLoserIsYou And is likely a representation of the worst parts of the GoAnimate grounded fandom.]]) ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQVklVHShVY One video featuring this character]].)
* GroinAttack: A running gag on the now-terminated Isaac Anderson's videos is WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} getting his penis cut off, such as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISMkZvDI1dg this one.]]. This also happens on a few other videos as well by other users besides Isaac. It's also a common punishment seen in "Punishment Day" videos.
* GrowlingGut: One of the sound effects with the arrival of HTML is a "stomach gurgle".
* GroundedForever: Parents in Grounded videos will often ground the child for a very long amount of time (ex: 112233445566778899 years) or forever.
* GrossOutShow: Seeing as how many of the users on the site are/were little kids, and there's an effect that makes people vomit, you can expect a lot of Vyond videos to be this.
* GuiltByAssociationGag: Sometimes in the "Gets Held Back" videos when there are multiple characters involved, a single character in the grounded party will be the only one to cause trouble in a grade (sometimes even with an unrelated character) while their peers stand by and not cause any trouble along with them. With few exceptions, all characters are still told to go back a grade regardless.

* CannotTellALie: A very large majority of the videos will have the acting out person ''immediately'' admit to what they have done. It's usually prefaced with a bunch of "Um"s.
* CanonForeigner:
** In some videos, Caillou has an identical twin named "Daillou". Although he's obviously never appeared in the original cartoon, many users have created videos about Daillou's adventures... which usually involve getting grounded (grounded grounded). In more extreme videos, Caillou has multiple 'lost siblings' with each of their names bumped up a letter (and yes, there have been videos where Doris has had a very impossible sexvigintuple pregnancy of 26 boys with each child taking a new letter rooted by -aillou, including a child named [[LogicalExtreme Zaillou]]).
** If a troublemaker of the day either has unseen parents or no parents at all, (such as the ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' animatronics, Series/{{Barney|AndFriends}}, [[WesternAnimation/BluesClues Joe]], or any number of the ''Series/SesameStreet'' or ''WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends'' characters), sometimes the user will invent parent characters just so there's someone to ground them. (Though it's also common for people to just use existing characters from their respective home series instead, such as the night guard or Freddy for the animatronics, Steve for Joe, or Sir Topham Hatt/The Fat Controller for the ''Thomas'' engines. However, despite the fact that adult human and puppet characters are present in ''Sesame Street'', they are almost never used in grounded videos.)
** Introduced by the user [=MattTheGoAnimator=], Daisy is a younger sibling/SatelliteCharacter to Rosie and Caillou (who is extremely naughty) who has become adopted by a few other users.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin:
** The "Grounded" videos that involve Dora tend to reach absurd levels as no matter how impossible it is for them to know, Dora will always be ratted on by students, police, video cameras and fired teachers. This often applies to anyone else who decides to be a troublemaker, as well.
** In particular, "(Character) Fakes a School Lockdown" videos are particularly ridiculous about this. Sure, trying to fake a school lockdown for the sake of pulling a prank warrants some kind of punishment, but in these particular videos, the retribution of the troublemaker's actions don't stop with them being suspended or expelled from school, as by the video's end, the troublemaker's prank will end with massive media attention (often to humiliate the troublemaker rather than actually reporting on what just happened), fellow students being injured or traumatized for life, massive fines (for either the school or students' medical bills) that the troublemaker's family has to pay, and the troublemaker getting grounded (or arrested) all for a ''simple school prank''.
* CharacterExaggeration: The most common interpretation of Caillou in these videos has his bratty habits (something that usually only showed up from time to time in his actual TV show) cranked up to absurd HairTriggerTemper heights.
* CluelessAesop: Some videos try to tackle serious topics... ''try'' being the operative word here.
* ComedicSociopathy: ''As you would not believe''. The main point of the videos is characters getting punished played for comedy. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW3mOE4w46Q Here's just one]] out of countless examples of this.
* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong:
** Sometimes, the troublemaker of the day will receive hate (and ''even'' get grounded) for simply not liking a subject the majority of other characters like, with the majority's only defense being how much they like the subject.
** Sometimes, an execution video will have one or more characters actually mourning the character being executed. (Often because the executed character was their best friend, was only a kid, or they ([[StrawmanHasAPoint somewhat understandably]]) find the execution DisproportionateRetribution of the highest order.) If the other characters catch them showing sympathy for the executed, they'll either ground, mob, or even kill the offending character for daring to show sympathy for the character whose death they are celebrating, which only serves to add to the disturbing premise.
* ComputerVirus:

** Some videos have the troublemakers installing a virus (either a Barney Error or of other sorts) onto their parents' or school's computer with predictable results.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Some of the ways people find out about a troublemaker's wrongdoings outright defy logic sometimes. In most cases this happens via someone just happening to walk by in time to see the troublemaker making their escape or one or both of the troublemaker's parent figures showing up out of nowhere as the kid is committing their bad deed.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment:
** A lot of "Grounded" videos feature the parents giving all sorts of unusual punishment to the kids. They make their kids watch shows for little kids, eat weird things, and maybe even put a diaper on them or turn them into babies.
** In some videos, characters will be punished by being forced to watch random TV shows, including completely innocuous sitcoms like ''Seinfeld'' or ''Friends''. This is treated as some kind of horrible punishment by the people getting grounded.
*** Sometimes, the shows being forced to watch tend to be the "inverse" of what is considered acceptable. For instance, it's not uncommon for a "baby show" character to be forced to watch ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'', ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' and... ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic My Little Pony]]: [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Friendship Is Magic]]''.[[note]] [[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers Which is ironic, as the latter show is targeted for children.]][[/note]]

** Whenever you see Dora used, the model is clearly male, but the voice is always female.
** One of the most popular voices to use for Caillou is the "Ivy" voice setting.

* CrossOver: A very large number of videos involve characters from various media all living in the same universe. As a vast majority of [=GoAnimate's=] video creators were (or are, under Vyond) young children, many of these characters are from children's cartoons, including pre-school cartoons like Dora The Explorer or Caillou.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Many Punishment Days and "Gets Executed" videos end with characters getting offed in some bizarrely cruel, yet off-the-wall ways.
* DarkParody: Many users either make at least one video like this or base their videos around being this trope, but 90 percent of the time this is done by simply adding gratuitous blood, characters dying randomly, adding creepypasta characters like Jeff the Killer, or constant swearing. It's very difficult to find a Grounded video that is truly successful in using this trope.
* DamnedByAFoolsPraise: Oftentimes, the troublemakers will like works the creator (and often the other characters) dislike, and can even be used as an excuse for grounding.
* DeadlyEuphemism: Asking someone to "engage" you is treated as this in-universe.[[note]] As seen under {{Bowdlerise}}, this is because this is a censored reference to ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'', with "engage" being a stand in for the word "fuck".[[/note]] Some videos even add a crowd gasping sound-effect when someone asks another person to "engage" them.
* DeadlyPrank: A lot of times, the mass mayhem and injuries or deaths caused by the trouble-maker of the day were the result of a prank, with varying levels of reaction from the troublesome prankster. (From being horrified at the unintentional side effects of their prank to [[ItAmusedMe still thinking their prank was terrific despite the massive damage it caused]].)
* DeathByFallingOver: In the "(Character) Misbehaves at (Indoor Water Park or Place that Has One)", two of the atrocities committed by the trouble-makers include them pushing some slow-moving riders down a water slide and shoving a kid off some floating walk-pads. In both cases they wind up severely injured or dead.
* DeathIsCheap: Reviving a deceased character in these videos is as simple as just willing them back to life. Either that, or depending on NegativeContinuity.
* {{Deconstruction}}:
** After Website/{{Tumblr}} discovered the [=GoAnimate=] community, several attempts at deconstructing grounded videos have been made. Most notable are [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HgNK-J9uK0 Eric gets grounded and wakes up to a realization]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj_ukVmWKhE Eric's Dad Discovers the Truth]]. Some other users also tend to deconstruct, but more often just satirize the absurdity of grounded/dead meat videos. After the latter gained unironic subscribers from the [=GoAnimate=] community, it became a StealthParody.
** Also done with users like [=NotSmirks=] (formerly) and Warren Cookie, although in a way that evokes the darkest side of WebAnimation/YouTubePoop.
** [=YouTube=] user Creator/Wileyk209zback is fond of doing these kinds of videos, often making fun of the "Grounding" videos by making it so Boris is mentally unbalanced and has an unhealthy obsession with grounding people, and tries to pin it on Caillou [[BrattyHalfPint being an obnoxious brat]], but most of the time SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome occurs, and Doris confronts Boris and tells him to stop grounding Caillou [[DisproportionateRestitution for every little thing he does]], and may even [[DomesticAbuse fight with him over it]]. It even goes so far they go to court over it!
* DenserAndWackier: Not that the videos were ever considered very serious in the first place, but many of the earliest grounded videos were more...erm...''[[IncrediblyLamePun grounded]]'' in reality, as you can see in UnbuiltTrope below. It was about when Caillou, Dora, and other baby show characters began appearing and getting grounded that the usual tropes of grounded videos came into play and sent the Grounded videos headlong into absurdity and infamy.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Everyone has their own ways of interpreting the characters they use in their videos, especially Caillou and his family:
** While a number of users use the "Ivy" voice setting for WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}}, many others use the "David" voice setting instead. (Though with the David voice setting having been removed from the interface, the Joey voice setting has become a common alternative.) Caillou can also be anywhere from just his canonical BrattyHalfPint self [[CharacterExaggeration taken]] UpToEleven to a dangerous [[TheSociopath sociopath]] with a HairTriggerTemper depending on the user.
** Rosie tends to waver back and forth between being just an innocent (if TooDumbToLive) victim of Caillou's schemes to either ratting Caillou out as soon as he acts out. (Whether innocently or maliciously.) Other times, she's just as antagonistic as everyone else and joins Boris in [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling deliberately antagonizing Caillou]]. Other times she's every bit as malicious as her brother and causes trouble wherever she goes.
** Doris's characterization also tends to vary wildly among users. She tends to range between being [[TokenGoodTeammate genuinely nice but firm]] mom who is willing to take Caillou's side sometimes (albeit still giving long grounding times like all the other parents), a [[TheGadfly Gadfly]] that borders on a [[ThePrankster screwball]], an apathetic {{Jerkass}} who pays Caillou no mind unless he's misbehaving, to being every bit as AxCrazy as her husband.
** Dora's appearance in the videos [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7yksVSwawk frequently changes]] [[https://youtu.be/XqJXcA9kqyM?t=1m16s depending]] on the user as well. Rosie and Boris also frequently vary in appearance among users.
** The parent characters can be anything from just overly stern to somewhat abusive to every bit as sociopathic as their troublemaking kids depending on the user.
** In some videos, there's one Barney who is a troublemaker and jerk, and in others, there are two Barneys (an evil red and purple Barney, and a good purple and green Barney). Also, Barney can be either visibly fat or appear to be skinny (if there are two Barneys, both are usually the latter weight).
** It tends to vary among users whether or not Red/Teeth versions of characters (such as Boris, most notably) are separate entities from their normal counterparts or are transformations of the characters themselves, though having them as separate characters seems to be the most common interpretation.
** Finally, the severity of the punishments given to the trouble-making kids tends to fluctuate as well. Some users just use the absurdly long grounding time and call it a wrap. Others frequently if not exclusively use "Punishment Days" (a string of consecutive punishments), while still others just have the trouble-making kid get severely injured (if not outright killed) as punishment.
* DerangedAnimation: Very common in the satirical videos by users such as [=NotSmirks=], Warren Cookie, and [=NotZick=] Zick, though it's not unheard of this to happen in the non-satirical grounded videos as well.
* DiabolusExMachina: No matter how impossible it might look for a character to get caught and grounded, somehow, someway, something will happen that will expose the trouble-maker and their schemes to someone and end with them grounded, no matter how illogical it seems. There are also other instances of this trope outside of exposing the trouble-maker.
* DeniedFoodAsPunishment: In one ''Justin Bieber Gets Grounded'' video, Justin's parents force him to eat poop and drink pee as a punishment.
* DisproportionateRestitution: A lot of times the naughty kid will begin apologizing to people or their families for what they did wrong once they get caught. The apologies really don't hold much water if the bad thing they did resulted in mass mayhem and panic, massive property damage, or people getting hurt or killed. This can also be reversed when all the naughty kid did was, say, steal someone's cookies, and their parents still refuse their (more reasonable) apology.
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** This is the ''only'' form of retribution in the infamous "Gets Grounded" videos. Make one small slip-up and you'll find yourself grounded for an impossibly long time. Sometimes your parents will violently attack you. And you can even get grounded for reasons far beyond your control[[note]]Caillou, for example, has been grounded for ''being bald'', and for being named Caillou (even though it was his parents who named him)[[/note]], or [[ForTheEvulz for no reason at all]].
** Worse, there have been videos made of users the uploader doesn't like [[MoralEventHorizon being]] ''[[MoralEventHorizon executed]] [[MoralEventHorizon and their deaths being celebrated]]'' over petty things like, as noted below, ''making fake VHS openings.''
** You can get expelled from school ''just for getting a mathematical problem wrong.'' (granted, most of the time the grounding victims come up with answers not even remotely close to the actual one, but still)
*** Many characters will get expelled from school due to getting an "F" in a single class.
** In many "(character) Misbehaves At (restaurant)" videos, the troublemaker flips out and trashes the restaurant because the restaurant was out of one of the things they ordered. In other videos they freak out over the restaurant being closed.
** There are videos where one character will litter on the ground, only for another to walk up to it and instantly get arrested and sent to jail.
** It's occasionally inverted; characters will sometimes do terrible things like killing people, causing natural disasters, etc. All that happens to them is that they get grounded by their parents.
** Some videos show characters going to the dentist, only to find out that they have cavities. Rather than logically treat the cavities, the dentist does absolutely nothing and ignores treatment, instead scheduling their next appointment, and the kids get grounded when they get home.
** There are some videos which take place at an airport as the main family/characters prepare to leave for a vacation, and the troublemaker sets off the security booth with...a large water bottle. The security guard then ''angrily kicks them all out of the airport'' as though the entire family/cast had decided to cause a public disturbance in the airport instead of simply causing a minor and accidental[[labelnote:*]] at least if the troublemaker wasn't shown to set off the security booth on purpose just to be a brat[[/labelnote]] inconvenience, rather simply telling them why this was a problem and sending them on their way once the problem was rectified. (Additionally, everyone blames the troublemaker for ruining their vacation even if they (implied or explicitly) were the ones who got the kid the water bottle in the first place.)
* TheDogBitesBack: Zig-zagged - many videos have the punished parties get fed up with the groundings and enact some sort of revenge scheme to get them in trouble. However, a very rare few allow them to get away with their revenge.
* DomesticAbuse:
** Fred gets depicted as emotionally, verbally and physically abusive towards Daphne, just like he is to the rest of Mystery Inc.
%%** Creator/Wileyk209zback likes to have Doris do this to Boris when calling him out over his unhealthy grounding obsession and punishing Caillou for [[DisproportionateRetribution minor offenses]].
* DoNotTouchTheFunnelCloud: There are a surprisingly large amount of videos involving tornadoes hitting the city that most Grounded videos take place in, and in most cases, nothing actually gets damaged (nor do people get injured or killed) until the tornado actually hits them.
* DontLikeDontRead: Quite a number of videos will have the author of the video asking for viewers to "respect [the creator's] opinion". Nine times out of ten, it's usually "If you even disagree with what I say, it means you're a baby show lover". Another variation of this is for the author to proclaim that they "don't support child abuse" and if you're offended by the video, don't watch it.
* DoubleStandard: The usual given reason for everyone's loathing for baby show characters such as Caillou and Dora is because...well...they're "baby show" characters. For whatever reason, though, no one seems to care that Rosie, Boris, Doris, Diego, or any of Caillou or Dora's other family members are technically "baby show" characters themselves. The likely reason is because they all dislike the main characters themselves so everyone just brushes this off.
* DownerEnding: There are too many instances of this trope in the grounded videos to list them all individually. Generally speaking though, if the main character was trying to correct their problems, help somebody, or they had good intentions when they misbehaved, expect the ending to be this if they still get grounded.
* DreamSequence: "(Character) has nightmares/bad dreams" videos primarily take place in a dream being had by the Character/Troublemaker Of The Day. Many of these videos often involve scary [[VanityPlate logos]] due to RecycledScript from NitroG’s ''Dora’s Nightmare'' trilogy. Also, a number of these videos end with the character's parents coming in to ground them, just because they can (or, as in the original ''Dora’s Nightmare'' video, for stealing their “nighttime medications”). Videos involving nightmares are the most prevalent of these types of videos, but Grounded videos involving good (or just plumb weird) dreams are out there.

** You'll find no bumbling dads or moms here. Even the goofiest of parents (such as [[WesternAnimation/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball Richard Watterson]] or [[Literature/TheBerenstainBears Papa Bear]]) are now competent enough to catch their kids in the act of trouble-making and heavily discipline them.
** In the videos where Arthur (or D.W.) is the troublemaker, Mr. Haney, who is typically somewhat of an air-head, is usually shown to be equally as competent ([[SadistTeacher and harsh]]) as all of the other principal characters in the grounded videos.

* AbusiveParents: Seen in ''spades''. The parents ground their children for everything short of breathing and things that are not their fault, and often inflict physical maltreatment upon their kids, such as making them listen to loud music on speakers or forcing them to wear diapers past their infanthood. Some videos even have a kid getting grounded for ''simply existing or practically nothing''.
* AccentuateTheNegative: The rant videos, which mostly cover only the negative qualities or simply what the user doesn't like about the subject. What sets the [=GoAnimate=] rant videos from normal criticism videos like this is that, most of the time, the user is being dead serious when they're using this trope in their rants (including their FanHater-charged remarks).
* AcceptableBreaksFromReality: "Acceptable" might be a bit of a stretch, but most videos that involve the misbehaving character causing a ruckus at their school tend to ignore the student seeing a school counselor or anyone to talk about the kid's behavior and jump straight to the kid getting suspended/expelled so they can get grounded faster.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: [[WesternAnimation/{{Arthur}} D.W. Read]]. As a consequence of Arthur being the most targeted character from his eponymous show, she is commonly portrayed as an innocent victim of Arthur's schemes (like [[WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} Rosie]]) with her trademark [[BrattyHalfPint brattiness]] rarely coming into play, if at all. [[NotSoAboveItAll But that's not to say that she]] ''[[NotSoAboveItAll never]]'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX7WBiDOSoE gets in trouble and grounded...]]
* AdaptationalVillainy:
** Don't expect Caillou, Dora, Little Bill, Arthur, or any other kid show characters to be the wholesome lovable heroes/heroines they are canonically. Most of the time, they are portrayed as the most troublesome and naughty kids in the universe who sometimes cause trouble just for the heck of it.
*** Half subverted and half played straight with [[Series/BarneyAndFriends Barney]]. In some videos, Barney is an utter jerk, and in other videos, there are ''two'' Barneys.
** Their parents are not much better, as most of the time they are unreasonable {{Jerkass}}es regardless of how nice or lovable they are in canon. Caillou's dad Boris, in particular, is just a hair's length away from being straight up evil.
* AdaptedOut:
** Pretty much any non-human character from ''WesternAnimation/DoraTheExplorer''. Even [[WesternAnimation/GoDiegoGo Diego]] hasn't been seen in very many videos. This is possibly [[JustifiedTrope justified]], in that Boots and the others are not human, and non-humans are pretty difficult to translate into any of [=GoAnimate/Vyond=]'s former themes. Meanwhile, Dora (being much more well-known and popular -- and thus more hated) tends to be far more of a target than Diego, making Diego Gets Grounded videos less widespread (Though that doesn't really explain Diego's absence in the many videos involving his cousin outside of the odd few).
** [[Series/BarneyAndFriends Baby Bop, BJ, and Riff]] are almost ''never'' seen in the grounded videos. The children are only seen in videos where Barney is killed by other characters; even when they are generic children rather than specific ones who appeared on the show. Still, some people have attempted to put in these three characters.
** Many videos involving ''WesternAnimation/LittleBill'' ignore the existence of the majority of the supporting cast and only feature Little Bill and his immediate family.
* AdultsAreUseless:
** In some Grounded videos, many of the adults seem to be ([[AbusiveParents sometimes willfully]]) blind to what the kids (usually the troublesome "baby show" ones) want or need. At least until they start acting out.
** Sometimes, a troublemaker will realize that they screwed up horribly and run to an adult figure, their parents, or the police for help. As soon as the troublemaker reveals that they caused the mess, they instantly get arrested or grounded without being given a chance to explain themselves further.
** Characters will get grounded or otherwise punished even if it's clear to the adult characters that the mess the target character caused was an accident and/or it was something the character clearly didn't expect or want to happen.
* AdviceBackfire: There are a number of videos that attempt to hand out social advice, ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oESy4zmD4K4 such as this one]]) but wind up unintentionally falling under this for numerous reasons. Usually, this is because what the user deems as "awesome" still comes off as somewhat socially awkward, among various other reasons.
* AIIsACrapshoot: The Errors are extremely smart and will prevent all attempts to get rid of it, including powering down, installing anti-virus programs, upgrading your computer and ''unplugging your computer''.
* TheAlcoholic:
** Some videos depict Caillou drinking beer. One video displays Caillou picking up a bottle in front of a nightclub, drinking out of it (assuming it's Dr. Pepper), and getting drunk. He proceeds to shoot a bartender, get Dora drunk, punch a random old guy off a building, and finally start driving drunk. They crash into the house, and Boris is shocked and implies this has happened before by asking "I smell beer... Did you get drunk again?". Later, Caillou is arrested.
** Other videos may depict Caillou going to a bar, killing the bartender for beer, going home and into his room and chugging away. He wakes up and pukes. Boris rushes in but smells something familiar. [[{{Angrish}} OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH!]]
* AllCrimesAreEqual: Any sort of criminal act or misbehavior can be shown to be grounds for the troublemaker's arrest (or even execution in extreme cases) if so chosen by the troublemaker's authority figures, regardless if the misdemeanor was accidental or something as petty as littering, losing a library book, or breaking a sibling's belongings.
* AllJustADream: Videos can wind up turning out to be dreams, whether for a fairly sensible reason (such a series of random, non-grounding related events that lead to the lead character being killed) or just at the whim of the user. See also DreamSequence below.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: The plots of some "(Character) Misbehaves at (Store)" videos are kickstarted by the main character being the only person who doesn't have a certain object (which can range from a hot new electronic device to a ''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'' "Tommy Troubles" VHS tape) and being made fun of by all their peers because of it, leading to the main character asking their mom or dad to take them to the store to get one.

* AnachronismStew: The infamous ''[=GoAnimate=]: The Movie'' video (uploaded in 2013) was supposedly made in 2006 InUniverse. However, [=GoAnimate=] wasn't founded until a year later. One of the plot points of the movie is that PC Guy tries to steal an ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'' toy, despite the fact that the show didn't begin until 2010.
* AndThatsTerrible: Implied. The grounded videos hint on how bad that their troublemakers' actions are, by how much backlash that they receive from their parents (and often extending to many other characters), how long that they are going to be grounded for, and how serious that their punishments are. It also applies to those where the troublemaker commits [[FelonyMisdemeanor much less serious actions, or even those that are innocent]].
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: Rarely is anyone shown being upset over a trouble-maker being grounded, arrested, or even killed in some way. Sometimes a video will show everyone celebrating the fact that the trouble-maker is out of their hair with parties and trips to Chuck E. Cheese's and the like. Administrivia/TropesAreNotGood, however: The execution videos take this trope up to levels that are ''beyond'' disturbing.
* {{Angrish}}: Characters will often yell out "OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH!" or "G R R R R R R R R R R!" when they're mad.
* AngryDance: Due to a lack of suitable animations, many characters (especially the Comedy World ones) will appear to be dancing when they get angry.
* {{Animesque}}: The Chibi Peepz, Chibi Ninjas, Ninja Anime, and [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin anime]] themes are all anime style. Lil Peepz also features animesque hairstyles and Cartoon Classics has a few anime expressions like sweat drops and anger veins.
* AntAssault: Troublemakers are known to put bullet ants on their target's chairs because of how painful their sting is.
%%* AntagonistInMourning: The parent characters in "Character Misbehaves at Character's Funeral" videos.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Often occurs in the videos where people repeatedly get in trouble, such as ones where the troublemaker of the day has a set amount of strikes before getting grounded/expelled. Throwing a tantrum over not getting what they want for lunch may come the troublemaker killing someone then punching a teacher.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology:
** Some videos have characters having inexplicable (if outright nonsensical) side effects from some injuries they get, such as needing an oxygen mask (or being unable to speak) for a year when they only broke their leg, or lifetime oxygen tanks and paralysis from a stink bomb. Even if you needed an oxygen mask from breaking your leg or taking in the scent of a prank-strength consumer stink bomb, you probably wouldn't need one for ''that'' long. See also MadeOfPlasticine and MadeOfIron below.
** The "(Troublemaker) Pours Rat Poison on the School Lunch" genre of videos show the troublemaker tampering with the school lunch by pouring rat poison onto the food, which is then unknowingly served to the students. Upon consumption of the tampered foods, the students experience stomach pain and throw up. In reality, rat poisoning tends to have ''far'' more horrific effects on humans. Some of the symptoms can include spontaneous and/or internal bleeding, muscle spasms, seizures, dehydration, cerebral edema and an altered mental state.
* ArtisticLicenseLaw:
** Many videos show the jury being composed of the accused's parents, siblings, teachers or colleagues, regardless of not if said characters had witnessed the actions the accused had done. The jury's information usually consists of ParrotExposition galore, spending more time belittling the accused character's personal life rather than giving actual evidence against them. The sentencing also takes a few hours, when in real life, lawsuits can take up to many years, and at the shortest, months, to finish.
** Regardless of the character's actions, life-time imprisonment or the death penalty (both of which are heavy sanctions that are usually used for serious crimes) are both tossed around as common verdicts in many videos, [[FelonyMisdemeanor even if the crimes are as simple as tossing a paper cup on the ground or creating a fake VHS or television opening video]].
** As demonstrated in "X gets Y arrested" videos, dropping any food on the ground counts as littering, no matter if they are in plastic containers, wrapping or whatever.
* ArtisticLicensePhysics:
** Many "(Character) Misbehaves On The Way To See (Movie)" videos (especially if they involve Caillou) have a bit where the character attempts to impede their progress in getting to the theater by getting a hamburger at a fast food restaurant and wrecking the car with it. They do this by somehow tossing the burger ''several yards ahead of the car'' as it is moving down the road, and hitting the burger causes the car to wipe out spectacularly. (The wind from the car moving would blow the burger ''back'', for one thing, and a typical burger should not be able to cause a car to ''fly into the air'' and/or flip over. If anything, all you would get is a flat hamburger.)
** In "(Character) does Chores" videos, the troublemaker leaves the tap running, causing the entire house to be submerged in water. Unless the tap does not have a plug in it, this is physically impossible. Even though a house can be flooded by an over-running tap, it usually only reaches three feet, and it is impossible for it to flood the entire house.
** Sometimes one of the troublemaker's punishments during a "Punishment Day" video is being forced to take a "one-billion degree shower", which is impossible as the evaporation point of water is 212°F. Even if [[RuleOfFunny it's just a comedically overexaggerated number]], the shower is apparently so hot, it sets the troublemaker on fire, which is physically impossible unless the troublemaker was showering in molten lava.
* ArtShift: Insomuch as it can apply to here, some users have gradually been making an effort to make Caillou, Dora and other animated characters look more like how they do in their home media over time.
* AssholeVictim: Most of the characters getting grounded or however punished are intended to be seen as getting their just desserts. ([[InformedWrongness However, it doesn't always work]].) Other characters wind up being this when they provoke the troublemaker of the day just to be mean, and it results in the troublemaker retaliating.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: Many videos have kids growing to an enormous height and going on a rampage through town or in a building when they can't get their way. One particular video features Caillou doing this, then promptly destroying [[UsefulNotes/TheWarOnTerror the Freedom Tower and the 9/11 Memorial.]]
* AuthorAppeal: It's not uncommon to see several of these in a typical [=GoAnimate=] video, nor is it to see users who share similar interests with each other. Among the most popular examples appear to be railway[=/=]airplane enthusiasm, [[VanityPlate vanity plates]], logos of companies, and Creator/{{Nintendo}} series (particularly ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros'').
* AuthorAvatar:
** Some users insert themselves into their videos as [=GoAnimate=] (or Vyond) characters, either as a CreatorCameo, the person being wronged/injured in a "Grounded" video, or sometimes even as the person getting grounded.
** It's not hard to infer that the characters who are against the troublemakers share the same opinion of things as those of the users themselves, considering how much detail is often put into the parent or friend characters' description ([[BecauseISaidSo as simple as they can be]]) of why something sucks.
* AxCrazy: A number of characters are liable to cause mass mayhem or beat up or murder people at the drop of a hat. Caillou's dad Boris, in particular, is often portrayed as this (either intentionally or unintentionally) by a number of users. WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} himself can be this, too, but that's really DependingOnTheWriter.
* BabyMorphEpisode: Some videos feature the troublemaker either turning someone into a baby or being turned into a baby as punishment.

* BedlamHouse: A lighter form of this concept due to site limitations (it's set in more the equivalent of a group home since [=GoAnimate=] didn't have an equivalent setting), the ill-advisedly named "Mental People's Home" series of videos within is this; usually the residents have no need for mental health services and it's used to take kids off exhausted parents' hands, and the caretakers' punishments are extreme.
* BerserkButton: Across many videos:
** [[WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} Caillou's]] existence is sometimes enough on its own to enrage [[AbusiveParents Boris.]]
** Some videos have the troublemaker-of-the-day flipping out if denied what they want at a restaurant, not getting a toy they want, or in general not getting ''anything'' they want.
** Some of the Dora videos have Dora's trademark exploring making her parents and grandmother very angry, often for [[NoodleIncident unexplained reasons.]]
** Alan Cook hates Disney. He hates fake VHS openings even more.
** Certain videos have peeing/pooping on the floor of the house the troublemaker visits being an oddly specific pet peeve for the house's owners.

* BetterThanABareBulb: There are many "grounded" videos out there that try to seem witty by adding random fourth-wall breaks to the mix, referencing memes (usually [[SensoryAbuse ear rape]]-centric ones), and lampshading everything (such as {{Hand Wav|e}}ing ridiculous things as the result of "[=GoAnimate=] Logic"). They usually tend to be far more cloying and ''annoying'' than clever or funny.
* BewilderingPunishment: A fairly frequent occurrence, whether it's the trouble-maker showing a NeverMyFault attitude when they get in trouble or because they have no idea why they are being punished, such as when they get grounded for no stated reason or for reasons beyond their control.
* BigDamnMovie: It's not uncommon to see some users produce feature-length [=GoAnimate=] movies, whether ironic or not. These videos, much like the rest of the fandom's creations, tend to range between surprisingly decent or hilariously {{Narm}}y.
* BigEater: In "Character Gets Fat At Restaurant" videos, the troublemaker will order and wolf down an extremely large amount of food.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: Nearly all of the families in the grounded videos, but especially those of Caillou (AxCrazy dad, apathetic mom who enables dad, hot-tempered {{Jerkass}} son, [[OnlySaneMan only sane girl]] daughter) and Dora (Obscenely AbusiveParents, apathetic {{Jerkass}} grandmother, JerkassWoobie daughter, bully cousin).
* BigStormEpisode: There are videos involving a character getting caught up in a major storm, usually ones that spawn tornadoes (almost always [=EF5=] in scale). The determination of punishment is usually left to if they caused the tornado or if they did something during it that earned their ire.
* BigWordShout: In "(Character) Yells Out The Word (insert random word here)" videos have the troublemaker shouting out a word that is so loud the whole world, sometimes even further, hears it.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Often, the kids act completely civil and nice until they are wronged or don't get their way, after which the gloves come off. This is more evident in the "(Character) Misbehaves at (Place)" videos.
* BlackComedy:
** Both from the groundings and from the things that cause the groundings at times. For instance, we have the time WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} and WesternAnimation/DoraTheExplorer [[IAmAHumanitarian grilled Rosie for supper]].
** While he's no longer around now, many people familiar with the grounded videos will tell you that the user Isaac Anderson was one of the most notable producers of videos containing examples of this. Many of his videos revolved around [[SerialEscalation escalating]] and rather violent battles between [[AxCrazy Boris]] and [[EnfantTerrible Caillou]] with Doris, Rosie, and other people caught in the middle, with any injuries or casualties PlayedForLaughs. (And almost always ending with Caillou (sometimes along with Rosie or Doris) grounded or dead.)
* BlatantLies: In "X Gets Fired From Y" videos, the offender will lie through their teeth over having a certain item. It's one thing if they say they just don't have the item, but when the customer actually ''sees'' the item...
* BlowingARaspberry: There's an expression for Comedy World characters called ''Taunt'', depicting the character blowing a raspberry, which also is commonly used for Comedy World characters [[SpecialEffectFailure "kissing"]] each other.
* BornUnlucky: A troublemaker in the grounded series can be this. Sometimes the grounded series will start with them being grounded for nothing or something that wasn't even their fault.
* {{Bowdlerise}}:
** There was a version of the [=GoAnimate=] video maker that was meant for schools and had weapons, alcohol, and tobacco props removed.
** Users themselves tend to do this to the material they're parodying. [[WesternAnimation/SouthPark Cartman's]] infamous "fuck me" rant that's become the basis of the "(Name) Misbehaves at (Place)" fad, for instance, becomes [[GoshDangitToHeck "engage me"]] or "[[SoundEffectBleep *EEEENK*]] me.*"
* ButtMonkey: Some troublemaker characters are characterized as particularly unlucky in certain grounded videos, in particular the original character Macusoper Busters, and Warren Cook.

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: Infamously, due to the limitations of the text-to-speech software, WesternAnimation/{{Caillou}} frequently ends up being rendered as either "Kayloo", "Kaylow," or even "K-I-U".

Users can either use the "Quick Video Maker", which offers several ready-made "animated shorts" (some of which are based on licensed properties) with the settings and actions already selected, a small cast of characters to choose from (different for each), and the ability for you to write dialogue, or the "Full Featured Video Maker", where you can start from scratch and select almost everything by yourself: settings, actions, sounds, FX, etc. (though again, you have a limited cast to use). You can also make more characters and post your videos on Website/YouTube, but that requires a paid account. Note that any videos you publish will have a watermark indicating they were made by [=GoAnimate=]/Vyond (though you can pay to have it removed.)

Even if you needed an oxygen mask from breaking your leg or taking in the scent of a prank-strength consumer stink bomb, you probably wouldn't need one for ''that'' long.
