** The whole shtick of the series is [[GodEmperor the Emperor]] being the only sane man in the whole Imperium and commenting on various aspects of its insanity. Of course, a large part of the series' humor is that the Emperor isn't exactly the shining pillar of sanity that he likes to think of himself as.

This actually follows her characterization in the ''Ciaphas Cain'' novels themselves, since they generally portray her as serving as the OnlySaneMan for the ''entirety'' of the Inquisition.

** [[KnightInSourArmor Church]] [[HotBlooded isn't exactly level-headed]], but considering the fact that most of the other regular soldiers in Blood Gulch display varying degrees of incompetence or insanity, he's easily the most down-to-earth character present (being quite possibly the most consistently rational member of the cast even going into the later seasons). While this makes him more proactive than much of the cast, it's also the cause of the endlessly irate disposition that tends to overshadow the other aspects of his personality. [[spoiler:Though in a twisted sense of {{Irony}}, he is the only one of the group ''that's actually gone insane'' - '''Twice''', even!]]
** [[CasanovaWannabe Tucker]] increasingly evolves into this role over the course of the series, usually taking up the role whenever Wash/Church and Tex/[[spoiler:Carolina]] aren't present. ** In Episode 15, [[spoiler:[[EvilSorcerer Magnus the Red]]]] is (briefly) the only person who doesn't go into UnstoppableRage when learning that [[CrystalSpiresAndTogas the Tau]] [[WarfareRegression don't fight in melee]] and is [[{{Realpolitik}} the only one to bring forward logical arguments]] against [[FinalSolution outright exterminating them]].

** Upon completing his CharacterDevelopment in Season 10, Wash truly becomes the OnlySaneMan, to the point he even calls Church out on his {{Jerkass}}ery (which actually helps incite further development and introspection for the latter).

But while her voice of reason does help out a lot, she's woefully unprepared for actual combat and needs the help of aforementioned incompetent villain Giovanni throughout much of the arc.
** Ramsey serves as this in the Western Arc. Compared to everyone else in Redwood Run, he generally has a clearer eye for reality, frequently pulling back or objecting to [[LawfulStupid Percy]] and [[BigBadWannabe Giovanni's]] more out-there world views. The bar fight in episode 6 ends up pushing him to his limit though, as the sheer absurdity of the situation is too much for him to handle.
