* ''Recover the Past'' provides insight as to what Fruma, the player's home, looked like. To say the least, it is not pretty.
** Every Wynn recruit from Fruma has all of their memories removed, a magician has discovered a way to recover these by use of a magic orb and requests you find some people for studying. The first of which is a scout. After helping him defend a bridge from the corrupt, you bring him to the tower and see his past as a farmer who notes the lack of water isn't even enough for him, his wife and their horses, all while working with an irrigated river. A few of Fruma's soldiers arrive with the message that an inquest has been ordered due to being behind on deliveries. When trying to justify this, they take the scout, trying him for Lèse-majesté. To rub salt in the wound, the soldier destroys their house with a fireball spell. [[SarcasmMode What a nice and friendly country to live in.]]
** Your second subject is a sailor. After dealing with his problem, you see his memory of his wife being arrested. The sailor proceeds to punch the guard which has him take his wife's place as a prisoner.
** The third subject, a farmer, is the kicker, as his last memory is inside of a Fruman prison. The person in the cell next to him is the sailor, who tells the farmer that there is no point in yelling as escape is impossible and anyone taken from the guards is never seen again. At which point, the sailor is taken to an interrogation room as a guard says the same phrase, over and over again.
---> There is no war inside the Fruman walls.
*** You view the above scene in thirdperson. Then you are placed in the chair and view the rest of the scene in firstperson. Then the textbox begins distorting with that phrase repeating itself. The magician calls out your name and tells you to escape as you are being sucked into the memory and will be trapped in it if otherwise.
*** Take a look at one of the fenced off areas of the prison before you escape. [[WhamShot There is a broken down wagon in it]]. That little quip at the beginning of your adventure takes a darker turn with this in mind.
** The fourth and last subject: you. You walk towards the magic orb, wait a few moments... and the orb explodes. The magician is shocked, saying its as if nonexistent memories were being accessed, like you never existed before Wynn. With this in mind, it can only lead to several questions of how the player ended up in Wynn, or what they were doing in Fruma in the first place.

Not only do the guard quickly find and arrest Aledar, but they arrest Tasim on account of him (unwittingly) being Tasim's accomplice.

* An early quest the player can do is called ''Poisoning the Pest'', which involves killing a Corruption-infected Farmer with water infused with rat poison. The cutscene of watching the farmer die involves it bleeding for a few moments before destroying a few parts of the farm and ultimately watching it explode and fighting some pests that were burrowed in the farmer’s body. At the very least, the player has expectations on what is to come in later quests.
