** Chapters 256-257 has Atori blowing his cover when he gets too carried away beating up Sabnock and almost ''killing'' him during the Heartbreaker. This situation forces Sabnock to defend himself by unleashing his Wicked Phase, using special pills Balam prepared for him in case of a life or death scenario. Despite this, Atori still overpowers him and tries force-feeding him more pills to make his Wicked Phase go even longer, which is extremely dangerous. Fortunately, Balam comes in the nick of time to stop Atori before he can go through with it, but it's still frightening.

* In chapter 182, we learn that the incident that permanently scarred Balam's face happened when he was only a very small child. Wherein a giant bird monster snatched him up and carried him off to his nest, where he had to hide behind a rock an entire night with no food or water. And when he finally dared venture out to try and eat the bird's eggs when he got hungry enough, the mother bird was unhappy to say the least. We don't see the attack itself, but the next time we see young Balam after the incident, the entire lower half of his face is wrapped up in bandages. It's only thanks to his parents arriving in the nick of time to rescue him that nothing even worse happened than just his face being mutilated.
* The Heartbreaker Arc has several:
** In chapters 252-253, Jazz lets himself [[spoiler:get tortured]] to buy time for the first years he's paired up for the Heartbreaker. Jazz's strategy was to deceive the teachers into thinking that the first years are locked in a safe (actually fake), thus forcing any teachers he faced to get the safe's passcode from him in order to open it. Meanwhile, the students Jazz was paired up with would secretly escape to Allocer's side for protection. Unfortunately for Jazz, this results in him facing [[spoiler:Marbas, who specializes in ''torture arts]].'' This precarious situation gets so bad that Jazz is [[spoiler:threatened with Marbas' stinger centipede]] if he doesn't give up the passcode. [[spoiler:The stinger centipede penetrates the victim's wing root, damaging the spine and tearing the victim's nerves in the process, which would've been excrutiatingly painful (and potentially cause death, though Marbas does mention that they have medics on standby, as the staff wouldn't actually lethally harm the students)]]. Fortunately, Iruma and his team busts in and saves Jazz just before [[spoiler:Marbas can use the centipede on Jazz]], but it's still horrifying.

This episode reveals, however, that underneath is a sociopathic masochist who takes immense pleasure in the despair of others including himself. His actual plan is to trap the entire student body during the Battora event and kill them all with a magic bomb. This act would cause the Netherworld's denizens to revert back to their primal nature by making them despair over the losses. Even the way in which Kirio became the way he was is unsettling: he was sent to a rehabilitation facility when he was born with little magic. When he accidentally causes his only friend's earring to fall into the water, he gets a nosebleed from watching her suffering.
** Worse, this reveal happens when Iruma ends up finding him... [[AloneWithThePsycho all alone, in a hidden room, without Asmodeus or Clara to back him up.]] Amy even talks about [[AndIMustScream trapping Iruma in barriers to watch the disaster happen, helpless]], and deliberately explains his origins [[BreakThemByTalking to try and demoralize him into despair.]]

* Iruma suffers a hallucination of [[AbusiveParents his horrible parents]] wanting to take him back. Let's just say it freaks him out even worse than many of the demons he's encountered.
