* The way the [[TwistEnding final reveal]] is done. The way the [[WhamLine line]] [[spoiler:"Is that how she ''killed'' you?"]] is delivered is truly chilling, as well as shocking.

Uncanny Valley is IUEO now and the subjective version has been split; cleaning up misuse and ZCE in the process

* That scene in the upstairs storeroom. The sound effects (especially that sudden moaning noise) and that [[UncannyValley creepy Virgin Mary statue]] really ramp up the scariness of the scene. The fact that the scene [[NothingIsScarier begins entirely silently and with nothing happening for a while]] makes it worse.

* The film opens with a closeup on Grace [[JumpScare shrieking as she wakes up from her nightmare]].
* The way the [[TwistEnding final reveal]] is done. The way the [[WhamLine line]] [[spoiler:"Is that how she ''killed'' you?"]] is delivered is truly chilling, as well as shocking.
* Anne and Nicholas in their bedroom being visited by Victor. Imagine, every terror you would have as a child in the dark of your own bedroom realized, where the bedsheets do not protect you. *shiver*
** It gets even scarier when you learn that what's really happening is that Anne and Nicholas are the ones terrifying Victor, albeit inadvertently.

* Finally persuaded of some kind of haunting, Grace leaves in search of the priest, to arrange a blessing. Meanwhile, Mrs. Mills ominously confers with Mr. Tuttle, whom she discreetly reminds of some earthward object. He promptly rakes leaves over what's revealed, with a fearsome orchestral shiver, to be several gravestones.
* Alone on the grounds, Grace peers fearfully into the fog - from which emerges Charles, presumed to have been killed in action. Back at the house, his weary detachment from his home is both poignant and decidedly unsettling. A further conference between Mrs. Mills and Mr. Tuttle sheds some very ominous light on this.
-->'''Mrs. Mills:''' ''(dismissively casual)'' I don't think he even knows where he is.
