The first sighting when his flashlight hits one of the creatures that is standing up either asleep or just in a trance is ''utterly terrifying.''

However, this also may have been why they changed the theatrical ending even though it doesn't tie into the rest of the movie's themes; it's possible they thought the audience would be too scared of the creatures given everything going into the final act and wouldn't accept evidence that the creatures still retain some sentience and human emotions, so instead, they have Neville [[spoiler: perform a SenselessSacrifice.]]
