* SpokenWordInMusic: "Get Out of Your Own Way" and "American Soul" are bridged by a speech by Music/KendrickLamar[[note]]whom [=U2=] had collaborated with earlier on his own song "XXX."[[/note]] extolling the privileged classes for eventually needing to face the price of their excesses:
-->Blessed are the arrogant – for theirs is the kingdom of their own company.\\
Blessed are the superstars – for the magnificence in their light, we understand better our own insignificance.\\
Blessed are the filthy rich – for you can only truly own what you give away, like your pain.\\
Blessed are the bullies – for one day they will have to stand up to themselves.\\
Blessed are the liars – for the truth can be awkward.

* HakunaMatata: Despite the gloomy subject matter on much of the album, a lot of the songs are optimistic, singing about pushing through obstacles and the belief things can get better. Lights of Home makes this combination most explicit, the lyrics suggesting both dying and going "home", but also that the singer has a lot to live for, and may just be going to their actual home.
* FearSong: The Blackout, for political developments, dying, and getting out of touch.
* PepTalkSong: Lights of Home includes elements, Love is bigger than Anything in its way is fully one.
