** The "Chai Maxx" pose is an homage to professional wrestler Keiji Mutoh's signature pose. Some dance parts were also inspired by Alistair Overeem's moves. Also, Reni is shown dressed as Danpei, the coach from {{Ashita no Joe}} in this mixed martial arts themed Music Video.

** Several of their music videos, "Mirai Bowl" to ''Theatre/WestSideStory'', "D no Junjou" to KamenNoNinjaAkakage, "Otome Sensou" to ''Film/DeadPoetsSociety''. Making homages is pretty much this group's selling point; to list them all would probably require a separate page.

** They also covered ''Anime/SailorMoon'''s original theme song "Moonlight Densetsu", GundamSEED's "[[Music/NamiTamaki Believe]]", LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya's "Saikyou Pare Parade", and Anime/GlassFleet's "Tsuyoku Tsuyoku".

** The "Otome Sensou" outfits? YES!! THAT'S MobileSuitGundam ZAKU II!! Although WordOfGod has stated that the costume was based on wrestling duo Wrestling/TheRoadWarriors, it more resembles Zaku, especially that pipe thingy.

** Their "Ze!!" is the CatchPhrase of Ichiro Mizuki, the singer of MazingerZ opening and narrator of "Z Densetsu".

Basically, this idol group concept is an entire TakeThat to the idol culture in Japan; they dance like crazy and have some unusual choreography, such as doing handsprings, cartwheels and [[InASingleBound awesome jumps]] instead of lighthearted cute dances, wear strange and often [[WTHCostumingDepartment ridiculous costumes]] ranging from [[Franchise/SuperSentai Sentai]] outfits to [[MaskedLuchador wrestling masks]], shamelessly do some strange routines on TV (the ''komanechi dance'' and weird faces among others), and continually do homages to other forms of subculture such as ProfessionalWrestling, 80's SketchComedy, and {{Toku}}.

Their ex-member is '''Akari Hayami''', the Blue. She was originally the sub-leader nicknamed, ''Momoclo's Cool Beauty'', and was mainly in charge of [[AWildRapperAppears rap parts]]. However, she left the group in April 2011. Their ex-members at the time during pre-debut formation include Miyu Wagawa, Manami Ikura, Tsukina Takai (went on to Music/SKE48, and has since graduated), Sumire Fujishiro, Yumikawa Runa and Kashiwa Yukina (of Nogizaka46).

* BigOlEyebrows: The signature look and charm point of Akari.

* {{Dubstep}}: Believe it or not, yeah; both "BIRTH BIRTH" and "NEO STARGATE" have elements of this, with the latter even throwing some [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_and_bass#Subgenres Jump Up Drum 'n' Bass]] in the mix. [[note]]"BIRTH BIRTH" has a random Dubstep break in the middle of the song. The second "drop", as it were, "NEO STARGATE" is actually Drumstep, which is Drum 'n' Bass with the snare placed on the third beat rather than the second and fourth beats. The name comes from the similarity the drum pattern shares with Dubstep.[[/note]]

** TheLancer: Shiorin, who is something of a fan favorite. Her gymnastics skills are second only to Kanako, and she often plays the OnlySaneMan of the group, especially when it comes to ridiculing Kanako. While it's only part of her on-stage character, she is the only member that addresses the fans as "''Omaera''" (a rude form of "you").

** SixthRanger: Momoka, the last addition to the group who actually managed to change their musical and dancing styles.

* HenshinHero: Granted, the lyrics in Kaitou Shojo mentions about this and their dance strikes a henshin pose. But it takes about a year until they're literally transforming into the costumed heroines in "Z Densetsu".

* SpaceOpera: Almost entirely all tracks on ''5th Dimension'', being the ConceptAlbum to represent this trope: "NEO STARGATE", "BIRTH BIRTH", "Mouretsu" [-[[note]]"Furious Space Symphony the 7th Movement: Infinite Love"[[/note]]-], "Tsuki to Gingami Hikousen"[-[[note]]"Moon and Silver Paper Airship''[[/note]]-], ''Soratobu! ** TheHero: Kanako, the airheaded leader in red with a carefree attitude and [[IdiotHero not a lot of brains]]. What she lacks in smarts, however, she makes up for in gymnastics.

* PortmanteauCoupleName: There are official duet unit groups called [=MomoTamai=] (Kanako and Shiorin) and [=DekoMayu=] (Kanako and Akarin). Other fan ships include [=AyaKanako=], [=AhriNyasu=], [=MomoTakagi=], and so on, equal to combinations of 2 people out of 6.

* MyBelovedSmother: Ahrin's mama is described everywhere else by this and doubles as StageMom. Ahrin even has the whole solo song about her.

* RepeatAfterMe: Ahrin always does this in every live performances with "Hai Hai Hai" before the song "Konouta".

* SongStyleShift: "Mirai Bowl" is a prominent example how crazy their music is. The song starts out with synthy Swing, then suddenly becomes something akin to Eurobeat in the chorus.

** TheChick: Ahrin. The pink who adores over-the-top cutesy and sweet things, also the only one who can't perform their acrobatic gimmicks.
** SixthRanger: Momoka. The last addition to the group that actually changed their musical style and pace of dancing.

As a result, they've gained attention and gradual popularity because of their uniqueness. After their sub-leader's departure in April 2011, the group changed its name to Momoiro Clover Z. Now, their singles have topped the Japanese music charts, they've released three albums, and they have performed in various prestigious music venues in Japan such as Nippon Budokan, Yokohama Arena, Saitama Super Arena, Nissan Stadium and have also done overseas performances in Germany, France and Malaysia. In 2013, a survey showed that the group [[EnsembleDarkhorse currently attracted the highest interest level]] of all the female idol groups in Japan. The group currently holding the banner for Stardust Idols, consist of their little sister groups: Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku, Team Syachihoko, Minicheer Bears and Takoyaki Rainbow.
