* ''MoralEventHorizon/ShinMegamiTensei''

* Takaya crosses it in ''VideoGame/Persona3'' by [[spoiler:killing one of the most [[EnsembleDarkhorse beloved]] characters in the game. Oh, and said beloved character is also a major StoicWoobie. To make matters worse, he did so while trying to kill a ten-year-old boy that Takaya thought was SEES' MissionControl]].
* Even worse, in ''VideoGame/Persona4 Golden'', [[spoiler:if you make enough progress in Adachi's Social Link, when you figure him out to be the culprit near the end of the game, you're given the option to keep your suspicions to yourself, thus ensuring the bad ending. The game takes it one step further than that afterwards, though: on the day before you leave, you're given the option to talk with Adachi one last time and tell him you know he did it, but that you're on his side. When you tell him this, he'll bring you the threatening letter he wrote shortly before Nanako was kidnapped, along with a lighter, and give you the opportunity to burn it, destroying the one piece of evidence that fingers him. Even the game tells you that this is a monstrous betrayal of your friends and everything you worked to accomplish over the year. Just to twist the knife in further, Adachi blackmails you after the deed is done.]]
* The motivation of the starting Phantom Thieves of Hearts in ''VideoGame/Persona5'' is that they were victims of a teacher's MEH. In fact, most of the villains crossing the MEH is the reason why they're being targeted in the first place.
** While Suguru Kamoshida was guilty of abusing his students, sexually harassing female students, goading Ryuji into hitting him so he could break his leg and disband the Track Team, turning Ryuji into a pariah, and spreading rumors of [[PlayerCharacter Joker's]] criminal history out of spite, the Phantom Thieves are reluctant to [[HeelFaceBrainwashing steal his heart]] when they learn that it could kill him if it goes wrong. That is until [[spoiler:he rapes Ann's friend, Shiho, causing her to attempt suicide, because Ann refused to sleep with him. When confronted he mocks the thieves over it and tries to expel them.]] It's at that point when they stop caring that they could potentially kill him and steal his heart to bring him to justice.
** If Madarame didn't cross it when he drove one of his former pupils to suicide, he definitely crosses it right before the fight with his Shadow when he reveals that [[spoiler:he let Yusuke's mother die so he could steal her masterwork, which was meant as a gift to Yusuke.]] It's at that point where Yusuke finally fully turns against him.
** The third ArcVillain, {{Yakuza}} boss Junya Kaneshiro, crosses this when it's revealed that the victims that he {{Blackmail}}s end up being sold to human traffickers and end up in the sex trade. In the bad ending, you get from failing to complete his palace in time, [[spoiler:he does this to Makoto]].
** The BigBad has committed many evil deeds, but perhaps the worst of them all is [[spoiler:having cognitive psicence researcher Wakaba Isshiki killed in order to steal her research, then forging a suicide note to make all her family think that she blamed her daughter Futaba for her death, which results in Futaba becoming a suicidally depressed [[TheShutIn shut in]] until the party saves her from herself]]. This also applies to the traitor in your party, who's implied to have carried out the murder along with many others. Something you learn right before fighting him is that [[spoiler: the traitor is his illegitimate son, yet the BigBad not only knew right off the bat, but was planning on having him killed once he served his purpose.]]

* ''Franchise/ShinMegamiTensei'':
** In ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiII'', we have the master plan of [[LightIsNotGood the Archangels]] and [[spoiler:fake]] YHVH: putting everyone in the city they rule into an AndIMustScream state so it will be easier to control them. Once that doesn't work and the Archangels are killed, [[spoiler:the real]] YHVH proceeds to attempt mass genocide: [[spoiler:in the Law ending, he orders Satan to nuke what is left of the world from orbit, and in the Chaos ending, he attempts to set off a nuke underneath Tokyo. The real YHVH, however, has a FreudianExcuse according to Word of God, but the Archangels are just crazy.]]
** Less bloody but still unforgivable are the killing of Hijiri and the massacre of the Manikins from ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIIINocturne'' -- the first definitely cements Isamu's transition into TheSociopath, and the latter demonstrates the depths Chiaki is willing to sink to in order to gather power. The possible battle against Futomimi may also qualify, as you are essentially breaking his spirit by fighting him instead of helping to repel the invading angelic forces.
** ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiStrangeJourney'' has three villains who cross it:
*** [[spoiler:Captain Jack]] crosses it when he allows his men to experiment on demons, then captures [[spoiler:Jimenez]] and orders him to be experimented on.
*** [[spoiler:Ryan]] crosses it when he kills [[spoiler:the skeleton crew watching over the remains of Jack's Squad]].
*** [[spoiler:Mastema]] crosses it when he reveals his true motivations: [[spoiler:turn Zelenin into his pawn and create a WorldOfSilence just so he can ascend past angelhood, while at the same time revealing that he only sees humans as pawns]].
** Pretty much every antagonist in ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIV'' crosses it at one point or another:
*** General consensus is that [[TheDon Tayama's]] is the worst of the lot. He'd actually already crossed it before the game even began, but we don't learn precisely what he did until about halfway in. He distributes a drug called Red Pills to Tokyo's demon population to keep them from eating humans, and it's ultimately discovered that they're made from [[spoiler:human brains; specifically, the brains of people who have been raised since childhood to produce the drug and who are given all the accommodations of livestock]]. Notably, ''every single character'' in the know about this, whether Law, Neutral, or Chaos, is grossed out by Tayama's actions.
*** [[spoiler:The Archangels]] cross when they order the execution of everyone who has read the books distributed by Lilith. It might seem like NecessaryEvil at first since the books turned those who read them into bloodthirsty demons, but Lilith reveals that [[spoiler:they do no such thing; they're ordinary books that present an alternative to the classist system that the people of Mikado live in, and the people's newly-awakened rage at said system is what initiates the transformation]]. Bonus points when it's revealed in the DLC that [[spoiler:the demonic transformation was the intentional result of genetic engineering that the Archangels ordered]].
*** You can make ''[[TheHero Flynn]]'' do this by [[spoiler:helping the White PutThemAllOutOfMyMisery]] in the Bad Ending.
** ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIVApocalypse'':
*** [[spoiler:Tamagami, Japan's Minister of Defense,]] crossed it in the backstory by [[spoiler:experimenting on humans to create the National Defense Divinities with the ultimate goal of summoning Izanami to destroy and recreate Japan in his image, and then {{Body Surf}}ing into the body of a wrongly-accused woman to cheat death]].
*** The game firmly puts a previous villain across this after numerous failed attempts to save this villain: [[spoiler:YHVH, whose excuse was revealed to be [[GoMadFromTheIsolation Going Mad from Isolation]]. He not only posed as the Great Will throughout the entire franchise, forcing it to intervene through humanity but also had Satan start and perpetuate the Forever War through the Archangels/Merkabah and Lucifer, who turns out to be a fake]].
** ''VideoGame/DevilSurvivor'': [[spoiler:Yuzu's 8th Day plays with this: when the heroes escape the lockdown, the angels descend from on high to kill them and take over humanity as punishment for failing its trial. In response, the party whips out their demons and start killing the angels in self-defense. At this point, Metatron appears before them and basically tells them that God has declared humanity beyond saving and has abandoned them to the demons, essentially condemning the whole damn human race as having crossed the Moral Event Horizon: not only did they fail their trial, they're refusing to take responsibility for it and killing angels who are trying to shepherd a race that can't take care of itself. The 'playing-with' comes from the fact that the forces of heaven, like Metatron, are not so heroic themselves. In fact, they're the closest thing the game has for the driving villains, and even though Metatron makes a pretty good point about the actions of the heroes being petulant and irresponsible, as Atsuro points out, they're being entirely unreasonable in their demands.]]

* ta''MoralEventHorizon/TalesSeries''

* The ''VideoGame/{{Tales|Series}}'' series is known for having [[AntiVillain sympathetic villains]], so it's kind of shocking that ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia'' has some of the most vile, inhuman villains in the series.
** First there is Ragou. The very first thing we learn about him is that he demands cripplingly high taxes from the people, and ''abducts the children'' of those unable to pay. Doesn't seem so bad, right? Well, then you learn that [[spoiler:not only does he ''kill the kids'', he ''feeds some of the corpses to monsters and sells the rest in the black market'']]. And his reason for doing this? He was ''bored''.
*** Not to mention that the people of Capua Nor can't pay their taxes because [[spoiler:Ragou is using a blastia to control the weather, making it impossible for them to take their ships onto the water, ''and'' he's ordered that any ship in the harbor be fired on if they try to go out to sea]]. Plus there's the fact that he tells the townspeople that they'll "never have to worry about taxes again" if they can obtain the horn of a monster roaming the countryside. [[spoiler:Said monster is Ragou's ''pet'', and he forces the people to hunt it, knowing that it will probably kill them, for his own amusement.]]
** And then there's Cumore. Was there ever Cumore. At first, he only seems like a SmugSnake, but then he tells Leblanc right to his face that the Schwann Brigade is weak for showing mercy. Some time later, we discover that he has forced the people of Heliord in brutal labor camps ''very'' similar to [=WW2=] labor camps. All this is topped off when it's discovered that he's sent countless people on a literal suicide mission, including one of his own men ''because he didn't load a prisoner wagon fast enough.''
** [[spoiler:[[BigBad Alexei]] is responsible for most (but not all) of the previous two's actions. That alone makes him pretty evil, but ''then'' he orchestrates an attack on Nordopolica and has Flynn, Harry Whitehorse (The Don's son), and the Hunting Blades take the fall. This leads to one major Guild leader being turned into a monster that the party [[MercyKill has to kill]], Flynn and his brigade shamed, and tensions in the Guild Union rising to a boiling point, leading to the Don committing honorable suicide in order to both save Harry and prevent a civil war.]] Oh, and ''then'' we learn that [[spoiler:he resurrected Raven against his will and forced him to be his slave/errand boy]]. And then, as the icing of a very vile cake, [[spoiler:he forces Raven to kidnap Estelle, and then proceeds to MindRape her to such a point that he'd give ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' a run for its money]], and [[spoiler:the MindRape was so horrible that Estelle eventually lost complete control of her body (but not her mind), essentially making her a puppet for Alexei to control?]] ''Vesperia'' pulled no punches in regards to pure evil villains.
* [[HateSink Grand Maestro Mohs]] from ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'' crosses the line ''hard''. First, he manipulates two nations into igniting a bloody, pointless war, knowing full well that the losses would be through the roof, just [[BecauseDestinySaysSo because a prophecy of questionable legitimacy said]] this ''might'' bring prosperity to his own nation. This is only the tip of the iceberg, though, as we later learn that [[spoiler:he kidnapped Anise's parents, and threatened to have them killed if she didn't act as TheMole to the party]]. The absolute worst thing he did, however, was [[spoiler:forcing Anise to deliver her close friend Ion to him so he could ''murder'' him ''right in front of her''. Oh, and Arietta, a member of the QuirkyMinibossSquad and another close friend of Ion ''and'' Anise, witnesses this as well and goes batshit insane because of it, forcing the party to kill her. Mohs doesn't care at all about this.]]
** While [[AntiVillain not as reprehensible]], [[spoiler:the BigBad Van Grants crosses this himself by using Luke -- someone who truly looked up to him, by the way — to destroy Akzeriuth. And then he ''abandons'' him with a YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness Speech. It gets worse; as a replica, Luke is ''actually seven'' and sees Van as his ParentalSubstitute, which Van knows '''very''' well as he influenced him to think that way. And all so he could use him as a living nuke.]]
*** He then goes on to [[spoiler:massacre an entire town to stop the heroes from interfering with his plans. Not to mention he is responsible for millions of deaths even before that. But the massacre of innocents is particularly vile as it's also a MEH for his subordinates, Legretta in particular.]]
** An offscreen moment that's used to set up another character's backstory: it turns out that the destruction of the island of Hod was ordered by [[spoiler:Karl VI, [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure Emperor Peony's]] father, after he learned that Kimlasca intended to invade the island. This would simultaneously devastate the Kimlascan army, keep the valuable fomicry labs on the island out of their hands, and framing Kimlasca for the destruction served to very effectively squash anti-war sentiment on the home front. And all it cost was thousands of the lives of ''his own people''. Said incident is ''the'' moment that propels Van into becoming the BigBad as well, as ''he was the one'' used to destroy the island via hooking him up into a machine to produce an artificial, incomplete hyperresonance. He was '''eleven''' at the time.]]
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' is no slouch with this either, mostly coming from the Five Grand Cardinals:
** Magnius crosses it within the first ''ten seconds'' of his introduction when he snaps the neck of some random NPC in Palmacosta for forgetting to address him as "Lord" Magnius, before trying to hang Cacao in front of her daughter Chocolat because Chocolat refused to sell gels to his henchmen.
** Kvar performed cruel experiments on the humans at his Ranch, one of them being [[spoiler: Anna, Lloyd's mother]] and was responsible for her turning into a monster, forcing his father to kill her and leaving Lloyd an orphan.
** Forcystus crosses it when he transforms Marble into an exbelua, purely to punish Lloyd and Genis, who by the way are seventeen and twelve, respectively, and killing some innocent civilians in Iselia because they violated the treaty. Later when he is encountered again, he is so enraged when he realizes [[spoiler: Kratos]] has betrayed his boss that he tries to kill Chocolat, for no other reason than he hates humans.
** Rodyle was working alongside Kvar in the human experiments, double-crossed Magnius by falsely claiming there was an order to eliminate the Chosen, and then when the party corners him in his Human Ranch, he responds by flooding the entire thing to drown all the captive humans there to spite Lloyd and co and prevent them getting to the Mana Canon, and just because he dies he manages to press the self-destruct button just to take them down with him, forcing [[spoiler: Botta]] to make a HeroicSacrifice to stop him.
** Vharley transforms [[spoiler: Alicia]] into a monster when the exsphere experiment fails, returning her to her lover as an Exbelua and forcing him to MercyKill her, before nonchalantly moving onto another member of her family who responded positively to the experimentation process, totally uncaring that it will eventually kill her as well.

* ''VideoGame/AHouseOfManyDoors'': The House's ultimate prize requires a sacrifice that cements the seeker as a mass-murderer; [[spoiler:to consume the fruit from ''the'' Trees of Life and obtain immortality, you must ''destroy an entire world'']]. The rulers of the Seven Cities consumed this power and became demigods, but have been tortured in their own ways by the sheer monstrosity of the act afterwards. At the end of the game, you and some of your crew may choose to do the same...
** ...And then Judith, if you chose to bring her along, will gleefully request to perform the sacrifice ''over and over until it can't be done anymore'', killing more people than ''anyone'' has in human history for the sole purpose of ensuring ''nobody else will ever get to claim the prize''; that's right, she's so monstrously narcissistic that she will gleefully slaughter [[spoiler:entire worlds]] of people so she can claim credit for being the last person who can ever claim the prize.

* In ''VideoGame/SailorMoonAnotherStory'', Apsu crosses it by brainwashing the Spectre Sisters (previously affiliated with Rubeus before his cruelty convinced them to betray the Black Moon Clan) so hard it actually forces the Sailor Senshi to put them down. As soon as the player finds out that killing them is the only way to free them, it becomes clear (if it hadn't already) that Apsu is past the point of no return.

Moved to MoralEventHorizon/StarTrek

* ''MoralEventHorizon/StarTrek''

* ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'' has a number of characters who cross this line, very befitting of the series.
** The first you encounter is Ambassador B'Vat, who seeks to bring a ForeverWar between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. How does he plan to do that? By finding and unleashing a Doomsday Machine (the same type from ''Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries'') on the Federation. Thankfully, the player character stops that plan. He tries again by kidnapping Miral Paris, who is said to be the Klingon Messiah, dragging her to the 23rd Century, and using their future tech to alter time so that the Klingons ruled over the galaxy and restore the alterations of the Klingons at that time. He only succeeds in the first.
** Before, there were actually missions where you could actually fail them and be deemed a traitor of the Federation. This has since been removed.
** The biggest person who crosses this line? General Hakeev of the Tal Shiar. What did he do? Oh, nothing major, just ''[[Film/StarTrek2009 be the reason that Romulus and Remus are now asteroid fields]]''. Later moments include kidnapping innocent Romulans and Remans and performing experiments with ''Borg tech'' on them and capturing random people, including your player, and pitting them in Colosseum matches. Oh, and the reason he does this? [[spoiler:Because he's working with the Iconians, a vicious race of aliens that are ready to take back the galaxy. Oh, and they crossed the line, too, by being the ones who gave Hakeev the means to blow up the planets.]]

* ''MoralEventHorizon/StarWars''

* In ''Franchise/StarWars: VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'', right after you decide to follow [[KarmaMeter the Dark Side path]], the game makes it plain what an ultimately depraved monster you have chosen to become by allowing you to [[{{Brainwashed}} Force Persuade]] Zaalbar to kill Mission, his best friend, because she refuses to either join you or run away to save herself, and she's too nice to be brainwashed into going Sith herself. And Bastila ''compliments'' you for it. Mission is a 14-year-old orphan girl who by this point in the game has not only helped save your life at least twice but whom you've taken under your wing as a surrogate daughter, ''and who at this point in time is the only member of your party still believing that you can be turned back to the Light Side''. You get to hear her anguished cries of betrayal and disappointment as she dies.
** And before all of this: [[spoiler:Good luck repenting killing millions, if not billions of people during the bombardment of Taris, Malak.]]
* ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords'' allows the players to do many horrible things to [=NPCs=], but killing one of the three Jedi masters you spend the game searching for is considered this. Towards the end of the game, the surviving masters will gather and confront you in one location. If a single Jedi master were killed, the rest will consider you BeyondRedemption and attack you, forcing you to kill the rest as well. In other words, killing one locks you into killing all of them, effectively putting you on the dark side path. [[spoiler:If you did not kill any of them, Kreia will still do it in your place.]]
* ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'': Emperor Valkorion and his BigScrewedUpFamily have crossed this in a nutshell.
** Valkorion treated his sons like dirt and mind-raped his daughter until one of his sons rebelled and murdered his twin just in time for their little sister to commit genocide. All so they would become psychotic, flawed heirs for someone to usurp in his name. When the player character learns of the second one, they can comment that this is a new low for a planet eater.
** Arcann '''glassed five planets'''. Because he "wanted someone, nobody in particular, to squeal about some secret, infantile organization that almost nobody in the galaxy knew about". [[spoiler:Even he doesn't think he can atone for all that he's done if he's "redeemed" and joins the Alliance.]]
** Vaylin mentally re-enslaved an entire species months after they gained free-willed sentience. And then ordered one of them to murder another as a test run because she was impatient. And then she murdered the technician who helped her with the mind shackles for good measure.

*** One could even argue that Bowser had already crossed this as early as the very first ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'' game where [[AllThereInTheManual according to the game’s manual]], Bowser uses his BlackMagic to transform almost all of the Toads of the Mushroom Kingdom into bricks and horsetail plants which either straight up KILLS all of them or puts all of them in an AndIMustScream situation. Heck, the whole reason WHY Bowser kidnaps Peach in ''this'' game in particular is because she is the only one who can undo the curse that Bowser put on the Toads with her WhiteMagic in the first place so he kidnapped her in order to prevent her from doing so.
